Poor Alistair.. seeing so many comments here that are sexually objectifying and offensive. Where are the Menimists?

I think of Alistair as wasted potential.

When he kept demanding Loghain's head after the Landsmeet, I thought for a split second "what if his goofiness and whining were just for show and I just dethroned one tyrant only to replace him with another? That would be a nice twist!"...immediately followed by "nah, wait, he's the love interest for the ladies, it's gotta be a tantrum. Meh."

His disappointment at my warden's continued existence after killing the archdemon was funny though.

"Battering ram"? Is that what they're calling it these days?

Alistair still sucks? That can't be right, because I remember there were groups of people that were upset to find out that he doesn't suck.

Zing!

(Well, there's my horribly bad joke for today.)

he sucks on a liquor bottle in most of my world states though.

(way better then making him king or letting him kill AD btw)

Part of me agrees out of spite. The other part is going, "NO HE'S MY ALISTAIR AND I LOVE HIM NO MATTER WHAT."

Well, it's a testament to his design. Apparently, people either love him or passionately hate him. I have two main playthroughs, one where he's alive as a solo hardened king and separated from my (non-mistress) Warden who is still in love with him, and one where I spared Loghain, became the Prince consort, drove him into obscurity and made him into a useless drunkard. Can't bring myself to kill him though.

By the way... I never considered it out of character for him to dump the Warden. I thought it was fitting. There's plenty of foreshadowing from Wynne, who shows concern about whether or not they would both be willing to do what's necessary to fulfill their duty, and you can even have a conversation with Alistair about their future together and express doubt that they'll even have one.

Him dumping the Warden when she isn't of noble birth isn't exactly his personal choice. If an elf or a mage minority had been made queen-consort, people would've gone nuts. You know, if it wasn't evident enough from how mages and elves are treated throughout all three games... As for dwarves, I'm not really sure how they're viewed from a political standpoint in Ferelden. Their societies are so drastically different and segregated, it would be hard to predict how people would react.

In any case, that's the point of a king. To serve the people, not to do whatever he wants with no regard to the political repercussions. He made a wise decision. My Warden chose to respect that. The only thing that bothered me is the fact that he made Wynne a King's advisor afterward. Why not Amell? She's a smart mage too. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? Maybe he's still salty that she coerced him into having sex with Morrigan...

When asked, if you choose "I just want to serve the Crown" (or something like that) he will make your PC Chancellor, ruling in his absence when he goes out in state tours.  If he broke up with your Amell though, he probably figured she needed space.  If done right, the break up can be done in such a way he still has "love" flag up, in which case, he needs his space too.

In my game Wynne traveled to Tevinter with Shale to research ways of possibly returning her to flesh.

This happens in the book Asunder, too. Though at that point they are in the western approach and have to deal with.. another problem.

The Architect has the benefit of being a darkspawn and thus having no reason to stop and rest (no need for food or sleep, no fears of the blight, fellow darkspawn were too stupid to attack him (they'd attack wardens though)  during his search (and the benefit of having pretty much an unlimited amount of time to search for said archedemon). The same doesn't apply to the wardens.

As well as the benefit to know already where they are thanks to the ex Orlesian Warden commander ,oh Architect ,he has the power to end forever the blight, but this is not his purpose.

Alas.

Still wish he had offered to cure the Warden's taint. I'd bet he'd be alive in so many more worldstates if he had.

Avernus lived longer than human can because of the taint. Why we would want cure then we should learn how to be immortal using taint.

So much salty tears kkkkk

While I do agree that dumping your girlfriend (and in my chase, boyfriend) In front of all your friends was a complete ******* move, other than that I have no complains about Alistair's character. He is an awkward goofball, and completely adorable. And If I'm going to judge him for one flaw that he made, then I guess I should redo my entire save with my canon warden. And since I said to him that a king can do what he wants (probably creating a monster in the process) and agreed to remain his secret lover with an open relationship, I don't hate him. I understand that politics, especially in a medieval word can be a mean thing. I disliked having a crowd watching this D.R., but I punished him later on lol

You put the guy in the throne, there's a price for that. And yes, the dark ritual thing? My warden banged Morigan. So yeah, for me, it was a nice ending, a secret open relationship with the King of Ferelden, with all the little perks that comes with that, and my warden  and his love can have all the "fun" they want :P

It was really refreshing, from all the other perfect fairy tale relationships that we see in games. No sir, romantism is good and all, but let's add some spice on all that sugar please xD

This thread really filters out all the overly attached girlfriends and men with confidence issues in the fandom.

Also, I can't grasp how people get the idea that Alistair is a bad ruler. His arch in DA:I is literally identical to Anora. An arch that lasts maybe 5 minutes. 5 minutes.

They aren't going on just his walk on in Inquisition.
