Sorry if I'm over-posting, especially starting new threads. Just excited to get to talk with other people about my favorite gaming trilogy (third favorite trilogy ever behind Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings).

What made you laugh out loud? What made you cry?

The wife and I cried when Grunt sends Shepard and company down the cave and takes on the rachni himself so they can escape ("My turn."). The music there cued just right, and I realized I was weeping profusely watching a giant two-legged lizard beating up giant bugs. But that just goes to show you the power of the story. Fortunately, Grunt made it back out on that playthrough.

I teared up when Joker bade his farewells to Shepard just before London. There's just some kind of man moment (I usually play male Shep) when Joker gets serious enough to salute Shepard.

Finally, I teared up when Anderson says his last words to Shepard as they are sitting on the Citadel. The "You did good, son. I'm proud of you" line just gets me. Something about father-son-proud-of-you-kind-of-lines. Guess that was why Last Crusade was my favorite Indy film. I was bummed at how ignominiously Anderson passed; he was Mass Effect's Obi-wan Kenobi. Wise, sacrificing, able to hold his own, punching ambassadors...Too bad they couldn't make him a squadmate in the Citadel DLC somehow! I still play his speech to Shepard after Thessia to myself on lousy days.

Anyway, there's some of my cry moments. Guess I didn't do any laugh moments yet, but I'll save those for a later post. Most of them involve Mordin.  :D

Fortunately, ME1 and ME2 stay relatively tear-free :D Except I can get pretty teary-eyed when hugging Tali on the Alarei when she finds her father, which I just watched today in a playthrough (Tali's VA is absolutely great).

ME3 has too many moments.

I cried when Mordin died, especially when I shot him in the back in my last playthrough. Then I had Eve's funeral scene and that got to me too.

When Shepard continues the prayer during Thane's death scene.

The nightmares partially.

When I couldn't broker peace, sided with the quarians and Tali got upset because she had called Legion friend.

When Joker was the one after the Citadel party to talk to me when going back to the Normandy, and the same with Kaidan when he's my LI.

The FOB scenes in London with Kaidan and Garrus.

The evac scene, as stupid as it is, but it just hurts saying goodbye to the squaddie that mattered most to your Shep.

The ending. First time I played I already started crying when Shep got hit by the beam, and I didn't stop for nearly an hour or so (this was pre-EC, though that doesn't exactly make it better :D). The Anderson scene was also a nice touch.

Well... that's a lot. I don't know why, but ME3 really gets to me like almost no other game.

Luckily in all 3 parts there are enough funny moments too! I love the whole Citadel DLC, I laugh a lot there.

I love the banter of James and Javik during missions.

Mordin singing in ME2 and saying Shep's attracted to him when you don't have an LI from ME2. Hahaha, good times. And a lot with Mordin in general actually.

There's also some really fun banter during ME1.

But generally for me ME3 is the best, it's definitely where I both laugh and cry most :)

Made me laugh?

the what-the-crap evacuation scene

when I chose the geth over the quarains the prime says 'because of you Commander, we're a people'

watching the synthesis ending on youtube. There's not enough dope or booze for me to choose that ending

made me cry?

laughing so hard seeing the what-the-crap evacuation scene that it gave me tears

I'll add more later of what made me laugh

The FOB scene with Garrus.
Shepard rattling off the ships that were lost in defence of the Citadel, to Khalisah al-Jilani

It's a taxi, it has a fare meter.
I only just got the DLC, so that was new to me & cracked me up.

And just about everything from Matriarch Aethyta.

You're enjoying this, aren't you?

Truck! Truck!

***

Thanks for dealing with that guy before I had to slap a singularity on him.

No sex. Just cleaned the bar.

Wait, I have a half hanar sister? I thought it didn't work like that.

Okay, okay, don't go all blood rage on me.

If it sounds all civilized you're not doing it right.

Oh, Aethyta... she and Kal'Reegar may be my favorite secondary characters. Thanks for reminding me of the Shadow Broker chase and Aethyta. Wish there were a scene of her spending time with Liara as part of the ending. If Liara is your LI, it's fun to think of her being your father-in-law!

Anderson's death, without a doubt, made me cry this playthrough, especially as Cole Shepard was an Earthborn and therefore Anderson was the only father-figure he'd ever really had...

Plus, the squad evac scene with a romanced Kaidan is heart-wrenching - literally the reason why I picked Destroy this time round. I literally couldn't pick any other ending - that sad look in his eyes before he gets dragged into the Normandy... ;A;

Can't believe this one hasn't been mentioned yet. "I am a great biotic wind!" Gets me every time. Also pretty much the entire car chase in Lair of the Shadow Broker.

Mass Effect managed to make me cry a fair amount. Just about every character death was moving, but especially Mordin and Tali in ME3. Also the evac scene with a romanced Tali got me. Especially since I always choose the Refusal ending so everyone's going to die (I hate deus ex machina solutions. If the Reapers were so unbeatable, let them be unbeatable).

There are so many things that it's hard to remember all.

Cry:

I remember I was playing ME3 for the first time and I didn't know Miranda could die in Horizon and when she did it was such a sad scene. I had to load the game back til I could save her.

Practically all death scenes were heartbreaking.

Judge me but for me even more heartbreaking was saying goodbye to Liara in the evacuation scene.

Laugh? Grunt in the Citadel DLC.
Cry? Thane's death, and I was never even that much of a Thane fan (and made the only good thing about Kai Leng sticking the omniblade through him).

One is not mentioned but I am always very emotional when Legion takes me to the Geth consensus. It is a strong, silent and a different kind of pause to the hectic game and made me really wonder. One of my favorite parts of the game.

I teared up at the end of ME1... not like it was sad, it was just the first time a game kinda hit me like that after years of strictly playing mindless multiplayer games. Faunts was perfect and everything was just amazing.

I teared up a lot during the third game. I don't care if everything was rushed and there were a lot of plotholes, just the knowledge that it was the last game in the series (as I played it fairly late and after EC was released) and all of these familiar characters were dropping like flies got to me. Especially my Shepard. Her death was about as canon as it gets for me. I remember before playing ME3 thinking "Apparently everyone really hated the trilogy ending, but I'm fine with any ending AS LONG AS MY SHEPARD DOESN'T DIE." And then I chose something that ended in death for her. Because I knew it was something she'd pick. Sighgh.

Laughed at a lot of dialogue. And a ton of unintentional stuff, like Shepard's expressions. And voice. Jacob's face makes me laugh too. Also, never make the mistake of watching gamer poops before playing a serious game.

Laugh - Joker's bar story in the Citadel DLC, Grunt's story in the Citadel DLC, Zaeed getting really p*ssed off with the grabber game in the Citadel DLC, Joker and Traynor's bickering during the party in the Citadel DLC, Shepard's 'dancing' at the party in the Citadel DLC, Tali not getting the 69 joke during the party in the Citadel DLC.....feels like there's a common theme here....

I guess there was also teleporting Aria from the Omega DLC! :D

Cry - nothing really. The only bit that choked me up was the end of the Citadel DLC, when everyone's by the Normandy and you realise that you're experiencing the last few seconds of new content that you're ever going to get for Shepard and Co.

Laugh- Most of the Citadel DLC. But particularly when you are being locked in the vault. Even more so if Wrex and Javik are your squad mates.  Honestly Wrex is the best part of that.

Cry- Mordin/Thane/Legions's deaths.

What made me laugh?

Wrex in the Citadel DLC - "Uncle Wrex has a present for you".

Wrex on Tuchanka - "I am Urdnot Wrex......and this is my planet".

What may have jerked a tear?

Mordin's sacrifice on Tuchanka

Kolyat's ending words to Shepard during Thane's death scene

Laugh -

  • When Kaidan accidentally reveal that he watched Asari porn
  • Wrex telling the other companion that he would protect them on Noveria.... and most of Wrex random sarcastic lines
  • Mordin and Shepard sharing the awkward pause after he belt out his song.
  • Most of Citadel DLC stuff.

Cry -

  • When Colonist Shepard hugged Talitha and reveal her past
  • The last scene of Arrival DLC when Hackett left Shepard and she stood alone, looking distraught, before the door slid shut (but I mostly felt it was depressing)
  • Wrex and Eve looking at Shepard from behind after Mordin's sacrifice (my toon have her "want to cry but I cant cry" face on)
  • When Shepard asked about the Thane's prayers for her
  • Shepard trying not to cry and when she tried to leave, Kaidan grabbed and kissed her
  • When dying Anderson said that she would make a good mother to her child
  • The entire ending sequence

but I think the worst cry I had with the game was in my first playthrough when I watch Shepard kill herself in Sythesis ending and Kaidan breaking down in front of the memorial. The grief is for real!

laugh: the endings because wtf

cry: the endings because WHY OH WHY

but seriously.

Laugh: EDI's jokes because they mostly freak Shepard out. Wrex in general, mostly what he says is too funny. Grunt in citadel DLC with his whole crazy story and Shepard telling him they love him.

Cry: killing EDI and the Geth in destroy ending because I LOVE THEM but seriously screw the reapers. Also overlord DLC, that made me so sad but it was also awesome. Goodbyes to your LI.
