So, nothing like a game of the year upgrade for old players or something?

GOTY version has come and I have been wondering: will players who own the game get any king of discount? I wanted the DLCs, but the all 3 dlcs cost the same as the GOTY and the GOTY also come with the items and the base game for those who don't own it. Am I the only one that think is a bit unfair? Or is this something normal in those big games (I tend to buy only small games, usually)?

The base game got discounted. Since Hakkon and Descent have had sales, I think we can be safe in assuming they'll be on sale again, but I don't know if they'll get permanent discounts.

I'm not saying a permanent discount, just some kind of "GOTY upgrade" available for those who own the game already, something like a DLC pack that several games have. The DLCs are far too expensive for those that own the game compared to those that are buying the GOTY now. It's this huge difference that is bothering me.

An 80% discount on DLC for some customers and no discount for others ...

I will no longer buy item packs, deluxe editions, nor Thedas, comic or art books. EA $$$ loss!

...

EA/Bioware has hit the trifecta in alienating customers.

* Xbone DLC exclusive

* Dropped support of last-gen consoles

* Offering 80% DLC discount to potential customers, while charging bloated full price to existing customers

They could have made an upgrade for owners of the game. I have seen it in lots of games. And the DLCs doesn't have that much content to justify the price.

To be fair, nobody cares about the last gen customers.

Unless we die, "last gen customers" will be "new gen" customers in the future. Loosing them means loosing future customers.

Perhaps they will. But it makes sense not to announce it early. As long as players are still buying the full-price DLC, there's no incentive to discount it.

Give it a few months.

I'm not buying the DLCs at full price. It's too expensive for it's minimum content and now I really won't buy them.

As an owner of DAI from day one, without a break on the DLC's being offered

only tells me one thing. Wait for The Game Of The Year to be released..

The assumption you are making is that there will be a GOTY edition. If the initial product does not sell the likelihood of a GOTY edition is slim and none with slim leaving out the door. Many games like DA2 do not have a GOTY edition.

So what you are relying on is that enough people will buy the initial product and dlc through the product's life cycle to make a GOTY edition viable. So even though the base game for DA2 is dirt cheap the dlc is not.

I am also a owner of DAI from day one and choose to buy the dlc so you supported Bioware initially so did I. I also bought the dlc throughout the year making that GOTY edition possible, because if the dlc does not sell well there will be no GOTY edition.

So because someone else got a discount before you did, you'll refuse to take advantage of a discount when they do offer you one?

Am I understanding this right? It sounds remarkably silly.

You sound like one of the people who "boycotted" Left 4 Dead 2.

The boycott lasted all of a single day, then almost everyone who went on the "boycott" bought the game and enjoyed it immensely.

Trespasser is, what, $20 USD? For around 6 or 7 hours of additional campaign content? In what world would that be considered "minimum"? There's new quests, new areas, new characters, new enemies, and new items, plus continuity with the base game of DAI. Do you want them to make an entirely new game too?

Thanks for mocking me.

In a post in another thread a few weeks ago (http://forum.bioware...3-lost-profits/), I indicated that I would probably pre-order DA4 and that I would still likely buy novels and story DLC, but that I would no longer buy other Bioware/EA products like item packs, deluxe editions, comic books, Thedas books, art books, Dragon Age clothing or microtransactions.

By not discounting DLC a token amount, I have already decided not to buy either "Spoils" item pack ($10 lost revenue).

Tresspasser is $15 and I enjoyed it. Don't mind the price tag for the effort.

Personally skipping the mediocre Jaws and Descent - I'd rather put $30 towards a new game than spend my time and money on that.

Initially I cared that I won't get the full DAI experience - but to be honest I now will just pick and choose what has enough quality to justify the price. EA can choose to overprice things and I can choose not to spend any money on it. Lose / Lose.

Of course some here view this as a good business move but whatever.

I'm sorry, I just can't help it. I see someone doing the online equivalent of stomping their feet on the ground and crossing their arms in an angry huff, and I can't help but point and... Maybe not laugh, but point and lightly snicker.

I will not be purchasing your "services"

Here is a good article from Harvard Business Review which might provide you with an alternative perspective:

That article's not really on point, unless you're arguing that people are somehow confused by EA's policies. It's not like there's ever been any reason to believe that Bio was going to have a GOTY upgrade path. The DA:O UE worked exactly like the DA:I GOTY, and ME doesn't even have that. The NWN compilation worked the same way too.

Love it! You defend EA pricing for DAI dlc, and then you don't even follow their pricing guidelines that you love so much.
You should charge $14.95 per session, but only offer your $24.99 bundle for people who have not graced your presence within the past year :)
