What? Because no-one could legitimately dislike him as a character?

The fans of everything are sick; religion, music, even games, the tolerance only exist when it affect himself.
If they wouldn't be so aggressive, they should be saying "Don't say that from Cullen, he is perfect, LALALALA"

That was a rumor and proven false.

Aka, retconned.

"proven false", where?

"proven false", where?

World of Thedas Volume 2, the lore book detailing the backstories of most of the Dragon Age cast, says Cullen never committed any murders and was sent to Kirkwall because he had become too resentful of his fellow mages.

Also, there was an interview linked earlier where David Gaider says the DAO epilogue slides are just rumours.

Also, plain old common sense says he could not have gone on a killing spree or become Knight-Commander of Kinloch Hold if he showed up in DA2 and DAI.

Any real prove?

Sorry if i don't believe in just your words, prove me he appears in DA:2 and Inquisition and MAYBE i believe you.

Nobody could legitimately claim that he was in Hitler's class as a mass murderer.

Any real prove?

What "real prove" could I offer you beyond the word of Dragon Age's (former) head writer and the friggin' lore book that was written by the devs?

How about the Wiki? it also says that stuff never happened. Here, go look yourself:

You want me to prove that a character that you know appears in both games ... actually appears in both games?

OK, this is getting stupid. I'm out.

Nope, if you ask him, he will tell you Gregoir sent him to Kirkwall because he was having a hard time dealing with the mages after what happened in Ferelden's Circle and Gregoir thought distance would help.  And, please, my "original game" also said Anders stayed with the wardens for the rest of his life.  And that got shot to helloooo nurse.  And the Dalish settled in the south.  Weren't no damn Dalish to be found in Ferelden in DAI.

Slides are 'what might have happened if  you never pick up another Dragon Age game".  Or "rumors" you may have heard in passing.  Obviously they didn't happen since Anders has a presence in DA2 and ISN'T with the wardens and Cullen is in Kirkwall in DA2 and is the Commander of the Inquisitor's forces in DAI.

Now, unless you just want to say "I invalidate sequels because I prefer this ending for him", it means you can't ever play DA2 or DAI because Cullen has a different arc to his character than what you want.  Cause he's in them.  You can't just ignore him.  He has cutscenes you can't avoid.

So wouldn't that mean cullen might never die anyway?
Doesn't that mean every single ending slide is invalid? Why do we even have the damn things if their always wrong?

yeeeeah ... you keep telling yourself that. Hitler references are always in bad taste. Don't show much maturity either.

no, I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why someone could dislike Cullen, it's more the way it's being presented, you know, with childish personal insults, ignoring of facts and the like.

I for one, have a general hatred of hypocritical people who lie to themselves and others and hide from their past.
It follows of course that I hate cullen, he who pressured meridith to be harsher and claimed he couldn't be held accountable for his actions but samson could.

I keep him alive so maybe he'll start being not a terrible person, but w/e floats others boats I suppose.

Why quote me?  I have no more control over what Bioware does than you do.  I refer you to multiple quotes and links others have made on the thread in regards to this discussion about epilogue slides.  I also requote this person's link to an interview with Gaider.  His comments about epilogue slides appear at the end of the interview at approx 44:15

Not a quote but a interview on you tube with David Gaider. It comes up when he talks about the ending.

They make ending slides to placate us until the next game.

A video was just linked showing how Cullen was trying to tell Meredith to be less harsh. He's almost the only one who stood against her, multiple times.

I don't have the time right now (IT's 4am) but "As of late, the movement has grown bolder, sending raiding parties into the Gallows in an attempt to break out mages who lack the skills or willpower to escape on their own. This is a grave concern. My recommendation is to fight back, both physically and in turning the minds and hearts of their supporters against them." there's cullen telling act 2 paranoid meridith to be harsher.

Unless the codex entries are no longer canon?

I'm not the only monster here

Dragon age Origin:

Circle given independence

“The young templar Cullen never quite recovered from his ordeal. After months of attempting to convince his superiors that the tower was still a danger, he finally snapped and killed three apprentices before being stopped by his fellow templars. Eventually, Cullen escaped from prison, a madman and a threat to any mage he encountered.”

And this is exactly why i take any bioware epilogue slide with a grain of salt now.

A rumour. The epilogue slides are stated that they are not the truth, merely stories. DA2 and DA: I did not retcon.

When was this stated? Because unless it was stated within Dragon Age Origin then its certainly a retcon.

It's comfired to be just a rumor. Go watch the bloody video, will you? The DAO video that someone posted said it all.

Thats because Merdith influenced Cullen, keep in mind he was young, 20 years old. Just a kid recovering form some horrible crap that happened to him. And if you read the World of Thedas Two, you'll find that Cullen was very parniod about mages, to the point he hid in a mages closet, while watching and writing notes about them. I feel bad for him, he doesn't deserve what happened to him.

I told you to watch the video, but you didn't. Go read the world of Thedas v2 will you? It has Cullen's canon story in it, and it doesn't include Cullen killing all those mages. Also, it's a very dumb augremnt based on a games endings that are litteraly usesless. They don't mean anything what so ever....

That's what a retcon does, it changes the canon... Dragon Age has changed the canon of its old games quite a few times.
