I like all the arcs of Cullen through Dragon Age as a series. dao he has a tiny conversation yet I understood where his hatred was coming from, he literally just got rescued from being tortured.

Kirkwall and da2? I didn't like his attitude when Hawke first bumped into him but he did slowly change those thoughts a little through the game.

DAI he had a few paths, not just one.

Lyrium un-romanced played out exactly the way I wanted .. no not for hating the character, I love the character actually but his addiction in the main game and his withdrawals from going cold turkey were hand-waved other then one scene which really didn't do it justice anyway. Trespasser showed how the lyrium was badly affecting a user.

Lyrium when romanced had a few dialogue changes but nothing substantial. I personally feel more could have been done there but that there is differences was really good.

no lyrium unromanced: as much as I love the romance, this and it's sliders end-trespasser felt like it was the best for him in my opinion. He's actually doing something, and finds another strong cause instead of retiring to a private life doing good works where they can.

no lyrium romanced: This ended as sweet as it started, but everything that happens in it feels like a perfect fit for his character. My romanced Inquisitors may feel differently however...

What you want me to say?

I'm not going to lie, the people who loves Cullen are fat frigid girls without boyfriend, using him as replacement of a real couple.

Why you think the developers created him a romance?

Just because the fangirls are requesting this from Dragon age 1, his romance is a copy from Alistair.

Calling someone fat is never nice. People who are such may have many reasons as to why are what they are.

Yes, I am a Cullen fan. However I am and have been for many years happily married.

I chose Cullen as a romance option for my Quizzy because the other romance options were uninteresting.

Have I been wanting to romance Cullen since DAO? No. I thought he was funny in DAO, sure, but nothing else. DA2 he was an ass. But I do like how Cullen has become in DAI.

I see nothing wrong with the developers giving fans what they have been asking for.

He's not. After all, as Cullen himself says, it took a mad commander lost to red lyrium and a city to be thrown to chaos and death to open his eyes and actually make him want to quit lyrium. Otherwise, given a few years, you'd be staring at the next Samson, love.

No you wouldn't.  You would of course be seeing a person with an advanced case of dementia, but dementia wasn't Samson's problem.

Everyone hates Blackwall for be a lair and an assassin, but now he want redeem himself, if this make Cullen incredibly hot, why not to Blackwall?

At least he doesn't hate sort of people for how they born.

Uh... When did I say Cullen being an addict made him more appealing? I just said it didn't make him less appealing. It's really not comparable to Blackwall. Being responsible for the death of an entire family and their guards is not at all on the same level as becoming an addict, especially if the Chantry downplayed the negative effects of lyrium to the recruits. Even if they didn't, he did it as a sacrifice to help people, which is the exact opposite of what Blackwall did.

Even so, I keep Blackwall around because I recognize that he genuinely wants to redeem himself and has changed. That's no excuse for what he's done, but he might as well do some good instead of dying. And if you payed any attention you'd realize that Cullen changes too, and he doesn't hate people because of how they were born.

Ah, the BSN, where people make disparaging remarks about people they don't know based on their choices about people who aren't real making decisions about events that never happened.

Yes. Because Samson was no longer a templar. He was an addict with a 24/7 compulsion.

There was no good or evil in his mind. Just the need for LYRIUM. Because that's how drug addicts who are too far gone down the road THINK. Their moral capability is forever compromised. So yes, Samson did what he did because he was abandoned by a system that throws addicts on the street instead of catering to them and trying to detox him. His actions were a repercussion of an irresponsible system who let a time bomb run carelessly around Thedas.

Think about that before judging an addict who was forced to do drugs by an authority (the Chantry) and had nowhere to turn for SALVATION.

ModernAcademic, I just wanted to say thank you for your empathy in your words. It's so easy to misjudge people with addictions... I used to do the same, until I understood in the worst possible way.

Since I can never know who will be reading this, I just want to say it's never too late and you're never gone too far down the road. You can always turn your life around. It's not easy, and it hurts like hell, but you can, and the merit will be all yours and you'll realize you're capable of overcoming anything in life on your own. You can, if you think you can.

Back to Cullen, I could never encourage him into continuing consuming lyrium. I tried to help him as much as I could to keep himself clean in every single gameplay I did, and I was so glad to finally see him at peace... =)

As for his romance storyline, I just tried it with my latest Inquisitor, but he simply isn't my cup of tea.

I think there are legitimate criticisms of Cullen, like the fact he was Knight-Captain of Krikwall's Templars and most likely had to oversee Harrowings and Rites of Tranquility, which many people see as horrific practices. Or that he failed to look into Templar abuses like Ser Alrik making Harrowed Mages Tranquil or Ser Kerras abusing Mages and threatening them with the Rite. Or, not so legitimately but Cullen Critical/Haters still use, his infamous "Mages are not people!" Or even his knee-jerk, very angry reaction to the Inquisitor allying with the Mages.

But he sees what fear of Mages can do to you, as Meredith showed, and he's trying to distance himself from the Templar Order and the man he was in Krikwall. IMO, he has a much softer view of Mages compared to DA2 while keeping in mind the potential dangers Magic can cause.

Even then you have people who never saw the Circles or the Templar Order as anything good and want nothing more but to see them gone forever, and Cullen gets lumped in with that hatred of the Circles and the Templars.

I agree with this mostly. Cullen is a well-intentioned person who is part of a system that can be extremely brutal. He seems to have softened since the end of DAO, and is quite moderate for a templar. But he is still a templar, if in all but name only, and his mistrust of mages is obvious when you ally with the them in Haven.

If one were to disregard the DAO epilogue slides, then I think Bioware has made it obvious that he is at heart a good person. But he can't possibly be innocent from violence to mages, since his duties as a templar necessitate it, during Harrowings and other instances. And if you romance him as a mage, aside from saying that he regrets the things he said at the Fereldan Circle events, I noticed that he never actually seems to relax his position toward them.

I assume Bioware probably felt it was unrealistic for him to soften too much due to the trauma he underwent, and I understand that, but all that doesn't really make me sympathetic to him. I would have felt differently if he had a more humanitarian approach to the mage-templar conflict, but he didn't.

Blaming doesn't matter when it comes to addictions. It's not a productive thing to do, and it solves nothing. I don't care about blaming Cullen, or the Templars, or even lyrium itself.

And no, nobody can predict they'll become addicts (and everything it implies,) and I don't think that was Cullen's (or any Templar's) conscious decision at all.

On the other hand, there are probably a few people like me who gravitate toward Cullen in game because he reminds them of their boyfriend - or in my case, my husband of years.  It's really great.  I can get my other half to dress in cosplay gear and we can role play Knight-Captain and the Apprentice in the boudoir/harrowing chamber. ;)

Thanks, Bioware! :D

P.S.  It's not the stammering, shyness, PSTD or addiction.  It's the hair, tank build, DA2 goatee, fidelity, and fondness for canine companions.

Um, no. I only brought it up because I was countering the idea that all Cullenites are "fat girls who want virtual boyfriends", just like the person I quoted, who only explained that they were a man for the same purpose. Neither of us where doing it for "attention".

i bet i can outrun you and that ive kissed more girls then you ever have (and im straight) -_-

Most likely. I'd wager that this person got rejected by those "fat frigide girls" (note the frigid part) and is jealous that so many chicks dig Cullen. This is what it's all about.

No, is just i am not saying my sexuality in a forum of a game, or you are you yelling on the street that you like the color red for example?
They aren't homosexual because they like this, they do for attention. (I see she saying she is lesbian at least five times in this forum, and i am here around 2 months.)

So? It's relevant to whatever topic. She's making a point that the OP is full of crap with their "argument" by informing them she is a lesbian who enjoys the Cullen romance. Has nothing to do with "attention seeking".

With the amount of topics I've seen in here that begin with "As a straight man... Romance options suck blah blah." does that mean they are attention seeking?
