Now that the whole story is done and we can look back at DA:I as a whole. Do you think we should have been given the option to romance our Hawke? Personally I think not being able to romance Hawke was a huuuge missed opportunity. Imagine the fade implications if you and Hawke were a thing. I realize this might sound like jest, but being able to have a date with Hawke where you control both characters in conversation would have been fantastic imo. Not to mention a further romance path.

What do you think? Hawquisitor a good matchup or a bad idea? I simply can not see a downside to this having been an option myself.

I left Hawke in the fade. It wouldn't have worked out anyway.

This.

Fenris would pitch a fit if someone tried it on with him. My inquisitor needs his heart.

No. Romancing the HoF should have been an option, though.

So I can do this with Leliana.

No, the IQ should have been Hawke and the Fade choice should have been between your LI from DA2 or The Warden/Stroud/Loghain or current LI (depending on choices).

Given that the game barely differentiated the tones of Hawke (they all sounded aggressive to me, and I really missed snarky!Hawke), I don't see how the game could realistically add more conversations with Hawke. Plus...that kind of sounds like young children playing with their toys. "Hi Polly Prissypants, do you want to date me?" "Oh yes, Clyde Frog, that would be lovely!"

Sounds a bit like masturbation, tbh? Or some sad forever alone scenario where you go on dates with... yourself.

But speaking more seriously, no, I don't see much appeal in this. A lot of the appeal in the romances we have is that we don't know how the NPC will react to the things we do or say, that they have lives and personalities and beliefs of their own and sometimes they won't like something you do, and sometimes that'll be the reason they'll fall in love. That's how you date in real life, right? You don't control your significant other's thoughts, you don't choose what they'll say and when. That's half the spice of a relationship, the trial and error. Controlling both characters in a romance would feel like puppeteering the relationship, and I think it just wouldn't be as interesting - if I can control both characters, I know exactly where I'm going and there's no spark to it.

As for romancing Hawke in general... maybe if they didn't romance anyone in DA2, or if their LI is out of the picture due to shanking or coat-turning, I can see it. Although that would've taken a huge investment in time and resources making Hawke a more significant presence in the Inquisitor's life, and that would no doubt have cost us in other places, probably in having less companions and romances elsewhere. I'm not sure anyone who was really into a romance in this game would be willing to trade its existence for a Hawke romance.

Nothing says you can't headcanon your Inquisitor with your Hawke, though - people ship their Inquisitors with Minaeve, Barris, gender-gated companions etc all the time. Canon is just a springboard for roleplaying, in the end.

What are you talking about? Hawke (in most of the DA2 playthroughs people made I would assume) already has a LI.. unless something bad happened, sure, but still.. I would not want my protagonist to romance my previous protagonist..

It's like saying that Hawke could romance the HoF.. no :/

*SIGH* No, this is absurd. Hawke was involved in the game for a brief time and only for a specific purpose. Regardless of what went on in DA2 or whathaveyou, it makes no sense to have a romance option in DAI for Hawke. This is the same as asking for Morrigan to be a romance option in DAI.

So the consensus here is an overwhelming no? Forever alone... if only I had Hawke to comfort me :P

You made some good points though so I guess it wouldn't have worked out well in general.

^ I just don't understand why you think it would have worked well, or at all, with the game's current structure. If Hawke had a larger role then at least the opportunity would have been there, but that wasn't the case.

Eh, putting aside fandom's idea of default Hawke as this bumbling incompetent moron who can barely tie their shoelaces without exploding a city, my Hawke was pretty put together and would've made a good advisor to the Inquisition. I would've traded all of Leliana's Knifey Shivdark advice for Hawke's experience handling both the lowest underworld and highest nobility in a blink.

If my Hawke wasn't already in a romance, I could see her being down for a short fling with my Inquisitor. Unfortunately he's already got eyes for Cassandra by that point.
