Reading too much into this I know but we don't have anything else to really talk about at this stage so here goes nothing... What if the trailer theme is more than simply a weird genre mash up and contains a major story spoiler hidden in plain sight? The spoiler being that you are reliving a bad bruce willis movie. Unlikely, I know but nobody would have seen this coming. Could you imagine BioWare attempt something like a videogame 'The Sixth Sense' where the protagonist died at some point on this expedition - maybe you see happen at the beginning of the game but it happens right under your nose so fast under confusing circumstances and throughout the game you periodically notice various idiosyncrasies to do with dialogue with your squad, unexplainable chronological inconsistencies, a recurring sense of deja vu and notice various strange vaguely paranormal phenomena, etc. because you are actually reliving your final days.... slowly piecing together the chain of events which lead to your untimely demise.

Would BioWare ever attempt something like this and could it actually work?

It wouldn't be the first time Mass Effect killed off the protagonist at the very beginning...

whether it worked or not is a matter of opinion.

Ha. Good one... I forgot about ME2. Thinking about the original trilogy now is probably a time to play it safe. This would take some balls after the me3 ending controversy.

It'd be interesting to play the N7 guy in the beginning and he gets killed by the prologue's conclusion.

And Liara's unknown love child (the one she had while Shepard was in prison) - yeah, from Lair of the Shadow Broker - that nookie moment - I know some of you hated her, but this is Mac's story, and this kid is raised by Aethyta who made it to Andromeda. Notice Aethyta disappears after Act 1 in ME3.

So your protagonist dies and she does Lazarus II from Miranda's notes. Brilliant, right?

Either that or you're one of the Walking Dead. Hey, now there's another idea. A zombie plague on one of the planets we colonize!

I think they should have a Thorian on one of the planets, and have a new type of Thorian creeper, with high definition vomit.

In all seriousness, I really doubt it.

No, they are NOT going to be M. Night Shyamalaning this game (EDIT: well, I certainly can't believe that they'd go through with something that dumb anyway). Although I sort of enjoyed Wayward Pines, most of Shyamalan's movies have sucked lately (and by lately, I guess I mean almost everything AFTER The Sixth Sense).

Please No. I would be fine with a dummy protagonist during the prologue who I dunno, dies on the citadel while manually releasing the docking clamps on your ship so your ARK can escape the Reapers or something. A "Dead all Along" ending in my opinion is almost as bad as an "And it was all a Dream" ending.

Or even better, a dog's dream.

It's OK Biscuit, the endings were all in your head!

Biowar?  Pulling a Shyamalan-like twist?

The dickens, you say!   <_<

But yeah, they tried such a twist in ME3,and it blew up spectacularly.  One can only hope they don't try it again.

as long as there's no cheating wife sub-plot, I'll be happy. god I couldn't wait for Lori to get bitten.

EDIT: Woops, so wrong on the release dates for the movie and the game. Ahem, the thing is that I find the KOTOR twist a bit different from the OP's Shyamalan-esque "SUPRISE! YOU WERE DEAD THE WHOLE TIME!!!!" idea for ME:A. A mind wipe and finding out that you're Revan I was okay with because there was actually a legit, reasonably logical explanation for why they did it (or at least, I'm accepting of the reasoning in the game). I'm not averse to surprising and/or insane twists per se, but being the spacefaring equivalent of Bruce Willis's dead shrink in ME:A is just so not going to work - nuh-uh, nope.

Yeah, it worked then.  Heck it worked with the Master Li reveal in Jade EMpire too.

But somewhere in the last ten years, they lost that magic.  Maybe they just decided "artistic" was more important than "clever"  I dunno.  So I hope they don't try a "PLOT TWIST!" like that again until they find it again.

Better, you are a Shepard clone.

Another one!

Let's go full-on Metal Gear here!

That's a intriguing idea, OP, but I have to say that it is one I wouldn't want to see in MEA. One - 'Is she dead or not' character a.k.a ME3 - is enough for me and I definitely don't want to find out in the end that my character is dead and has been through the whole game. Just no. Also, I certainly wouldn't want to replay such a game.

Well, that would be a short Game.

Since Space Ghost are still a step further into Magic than even Mass Effect went.

Yeah, I'm hoping that if they do a prologue twist, either the trailer N7 dies... or instead ends up being our main antagonist.
