Dear Bioware,

Please do not include any more tedious side-quests like mineral mining, shard hunting, deep roads gear finding, resource gathering, etc. They were tedious and unnecessary and actually made the game less fun. I am a completionist gamer, and there are many like me who feel that having a very good sidequest being tied to a tedious process like shard hunting or gear finding distracts from the game itself. They are boring as Commander Shepard or the Inquisitor, I do not feel that I should have to waste time hunting or resource gathering; it breaks immersion because there is always a crisis at hand but I all of a sudden need to spend time to gather pointless things to advance a side-quest. At the very least just let us buy the resources we need to craft or something, like you did in Mass Effect 1 or have us find them like you did in Dragon Age II or Jade Empire or KOTOR. These minigames are not really fun and I would not ever play them if it were not for the more fun game that I was trying to advance.

Sincerely,

Fan who has bought all your RPGs. (including old ones)

Also reduces the appeal of replaying the game.

But, but, but ... how are we supposed to get over a hundred hours of gameplay then? Please, will someone think of the marketing team?

You've got it backwards. EMS is there to justify having the galaxy map.

Finally someone said this, Bioware should know we don't want that! Because they've clearly missed hundreds of threads, articles and videos on the matter.

I usually dont comment this kind of things that much. But im a completionist, so whatever game i play i have to complete every playthrough. I havent started DAI for a second time around because i know its tedious. the shards and all. :)

but the ME trio ive done 10 times, skipping the materials by modding the save game using gibbed.

Did anyone ever realize that Super Mario 64 is basically one giant collection side quest?

And yet it's not tedious.

I actually don't have much problem with collection quests. I mean the batman games would be like 2 hours long without them after all.

I thought the shards were tedious but not the me2 minerals. Not sure why. Maybe because the planet scanner would reveal surprise quests where you had to land on the planet, which were fairly unique

The biggest problem with these quests is that the payoffs are often pretty meager. If you are going to make people go all over hells half acre for a quest make it very worth tier while with a unique item with a fair bit of power.

The bioggest issue imo is replayablility. I don't mind fetch quests in the intial playthrough.  For example, the shards in DAI encourgaed you to check out all the places in the lovely map, and I almost always stumbled across somthing cool trying to get to one. Same with plantet scanning.  I just wish for second PT, there was a checkbox in the options to already have those done.  Like a reward for being a completionist the first time through. That would solve alot of gripes, but keep the feature for those that want em.

^ that's a really good idea. Collectibles stay found in later play throughs by button click in options.

Hopefully the majority of the sidequests aren't about finding someone's missing data disk/paragon's toe.

Yeah I liked finding out bits of the map too due to the shards and know what you mean. And honestly, like the flags in Assassin's Creed and the scanning of the keepers in Mass Effect 1, collection quests have their place. Go ahead and keep them.

But when all substantial side quests are collection quests, and you aren't experiencing meaningful side stories, that's the problem.

As much as i hate comparisons between the  two, Bioware really should consider side quests like  CDPR did them in Witcher  3.  Even the standard kill monster get reward had some writing to it and  Voice acting, made them not  feel like fetch quests.

Yep, and Bioware needs to follow CDPR's example if they want to grow their brand.

If the game's main marketing feature is 120 hours of gameplay I'm not buying it...because it means 90 hours of inane fetch quests with zero replay value.

Not just that. I've said before that CDPR raised the bar significantly with The Witcher 3 which is better than anything Bioware have ever made. Bioware need to seriously up their game because Inquisition was symptomatic of a developer all too comfortable in its outdated formulae. In terms of gameplay, games like The Witcher 3 and MGSV has surpassed Bioware's model by some significant distance.
