I have the game installed on to my hp PC with windows vista and when i click play it gives me the following:

Mass Effect 2 has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

What can i do to start playing the game? Someone please help ive been trying for hours.

What point do you get this message at? I get the same thing the first time it puts me at the CIC.

As soon as I go to the play option, the screen turns black for one second, then crashes and reports the same error message .

After checking the forums, there doesn't seem to be a hotfix. The best suggestion seems to be uninstall/reinstall. I'm giving it a shot.

I reinstalled 4 times and nothing changed. I have the same exact problem you guys have. EA/Bioware have yet to even say they are aware of this problem as far as I know. I took the game back and got a full refund do to the lack of support. I come from the school why are you releasing something that doesn't work. Too many people with too many problems and I'm sure they are working hard to fix the problems but, sorry I wasted 10 hours of my free time on this stupid game. If I were you guys I would not kill yourself on trying to fix the problem yourself because it is clearly something wrong with the discs that they shipped.

yeah i agree with you sprouser its not even worth my time any more ive spent countless hours trying to fix this problem and nothing came from it. Im sure the game is amazing, its just unfortunate how they still have yet to become aware of this obvious problem with the game. I am taking this back to gamestop tomorrow.

If one more person tells me to have some patience. Not every game has this many issues. I simply was giving my expierence and advice to other people with the same problem I had. You know in any other industry if there waqs this many **** ups they would be done. If I bought anything else in the world and it didn't work they would totally refund and apologize. Not the gaming industry. They put stuff out to get it out and then it is our job to do their work by trying to figure out on these forums how to fix it. How about I work hard for a living and when I have free time and want to play a game that I paid my hard earned money for I want it to work. Instead I spent all day and night trying to get it to work and another trip back to the store to return it. You be patient.

Uh no. Most games that are progamed well and go through detailled Q&A  don't have problems like this. It's not like this is a MMO. Frankly after this and the people who had issues with DA (I wasn't one of them) I fear the TOR launch.

I get the same error I have Vista64 and the Steam DD version.

This is the detailed error message

Tried rolling back (nVidia) drivers, all the way to 191. No change in the crash.

Why don't some of you guys start adding your DxDiags or at least your system specs.

@ RgnCajun27 Did you try and install and run the game in Compatibility mode or administrator for that matter?

I am also running the Steam version with no issues whats so ever.

Having the same problem. Running GeForce GTX275, latest drivers as of about 15mins ago d/ling em. Vista 64, 3ghz quad, 8g RAM etc.
About to try uninstall/reinstall without the extra DL Content and see how that plays out.

*edit*
After uninstalling/reinstalling ME2 without the DL Content, it starts fine. Installed Content and it still works fine.

Good for me eh

Ive been tracking this problem for the past two days.

DLC doesnt matter, reinstalling wont fix it.

The problem is Cerebus network, it crashes when trying to connect.

Theres somewhat of a fix posted here, but it only works one time: http://social.biowar...784501/1#808709

Uninstalled completely (all settings dlc etc) and upon reinstallation (before installing DLC) turned off motion blur and it works.

installing the dlc now (normandy crash, zaeed or whatever hes called, collectors, and blood dragon armour) will note later if it still works or not.

edit: it works, so either uninstalling everything and starting from scratch did it, or motion blur causes problems :/

good times
