I think spells ignore armors right? I am trying to decide if I should put superb armor penetration ring on any of my mages especially the Saarebas. The only ability ring that works for her is the barrier one I think. I put a superb life drain ring on her but what about the other ring slot? I don't have any other type of superb ring. I guess I could put a 2% crit chance.
Does armor penetration help mages?

No, armor penetration only works for physical attacks, not spells.
So use about anything else but armor penetration on mages unless you want to get no bonus...
Also, most of Avvar's attacks are Elemental, which means Armor Penetration doesn't apply either. It really has to be physical.

Thanks all! That's kind of what I suspected. I only have a 5% crit damage ring but my crit chance is low (23 cunning), so I maybe better off with the 2% crit chance ring...

I guess this also goes for Rime, Bolt and Brand, seeing as they do 100 percent of their damage in their respective elemental categories?

Never tested it, but armor penetration shouldn't work for those either as their damage is elemental and not physical.
