can we have weapon swapping?

Also, it could be used to get around ability cooldowns by switching to a second weapon type that had similar abilities that weren't on cooldown (like Pommel Strike vs. Shield Bash).

I used weapons swapping in DAO quite a bit too. Start fights by positioning my party strategically to try to bottleneck the enemy and start pelting away with arrows and let them come to the choke point while my tank is holding ground. Once they get to the choke point, have the rouge or warrior or whatever switch to melee and hack away. I miss that strategy

I would be so happy if the devs brought back weapon swap. Being able to switch quickly between weapons with different runes and enhancements would be so much more convenient than having to go into inventory and switch.
Especially considering you're locked out of your inventory in combat, so you can't even swap weapons in a tedious way. I don't understand why.

It was a deliberate design decision. Mark Darrah talked about it on one of the livestreams before release. As with the absence of a Healing spell,(although "Revival" comes pretty close) and the 8-Ability limit, the point was to force you to evaluate what you (thought you) needed before you got in a fight. After encountering something, if you realized you were improperly equipped/prepared then you have the "Disengage" option to run away and reconfigure the Party.
Do I like it? Not at all. But it wasn't an oversight and it isn't going to get "fixed".
(At least, not by BioWare. And not by modders anytime soon, given the difficulties working with the FB3 engine.)

I'm very aware it was deliberate and not an oversight. Doesn't change that it's dumb and yes, it should be "fixed" come DA4. So this thread is still useful. Or at least as useful as any other suggestion threads.
Edit: Also, if that's what they wanted to happen, then "Disengage" should probably work instead of having the enemies follow you at whatever speed you are traveling - even mounted - so you can't actually run away most of the time even if you try... The radial menu is really pathetic in DA:I.

I used this all the time in DAO. I wanted most characters to have at least one ranged weapon.
Also, it could be used to get around ability cooldowns by switching to a second weapon type that had similar abilities that weren't on cooldown (like Pommel Strike vs. Shield Bash).
Yeah during the fight in the brecilian forest temple, the teleporting demon room was made easy by positioning all my fighters on the stairs and having them use ranged.

An all-ranged party also rendered the Broodmother trivial, as well as the rotating face puzzle just before the Anvil of the Void.Yeah during the fight in the brecilian forest temple, the teleporting demon room was made easy by positioning all my fighters on the stairs and having them use ranged.

No, I asked no such thing. I said I don't understand why it was done. I don't understand it in the sense that their reasoning makes no sense to me, not that I don't know their reasoning. It's a pretty common meaning of "I don't understand".

I took that last bit to mean you didn't know why, and wanted to.
Guess what you meant to say was, "I disagree with why."

No, I meant exactly what I said, you just misinterpreted it. I don't just disagree with their reasons, I don't understand them, which is why I said I didn't understand them. Is English not your first language (honest question, not an attack)? Because then I could see you not being familiar with how that phrase could be used in multiple ways.

So, ".... because we wanted to force the player to consider carefully what to take with them when they leave camp" isn't a sufficient answer?
I suspect that if one feels the result, (strictly limited number of abilities, no equipment swapping) is a poor one then no amount of "explanation" would be adequate because "understanding" isn't really the issue,

You really don't understand what I was saying, do you? It's not that complicated. Is English not your first language after all? You didn't answer.

I always thought the way weapons is equipped in Dragon's Dogma and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning was probably the best I have used.
