They would be releasing the multiplayer as a digital F2P game. The thinking is that this approach would lead to greater microransaction revenue as the lower barrier to entry would lead to more people playing it.

I don't really see that working out beyond a free demo with a sample of singleplayer. As multiplayer in any Mass Effect game is likely designed to be a complement for the base game, like it was for ME3MP, I don't see them ever offering it totally by itself, or allowing players to get the DLC's for it until they've paid for the entire game.

Didn't they give full access to mp some times ago,at least on PC(Origin).Maybe it was some kind of probe balloon for future titles.

Well, personally, I would love it if they separated it into different games.    The multiplayer team could design their game for multiplayer and the single player team could design their game for actual single-player.     Then they could eliminate the need for interface 'parity' between the two.     Single-player could then actually be set up as a pause and play system with much better powers that require some tactical thinking.

In my best dreams, they would go to a turn-based tactical game.   I would be excited for a game with the stories and cutscenes of Mass Effect and the tactical combat of Xcom.    Then you could actually take your WHOLE team into combat with you.

We'll probably get a Trial version similar to Dragon Age Inquisition with full multiplayer.

I'd buy it, but only because I love Mass Effect.  Not sure how well it would sell.

When you say multiplayer only, do you mean multiplayer as in just a game of cooperative games like ME3MP, maybe adding competitive as well? Or would the game still have a story, just that it will have other players as well like a MMO?

I'm fairly certain that going turn-based would actually kill the singleplayer game. If we're talking a mobile game, sure, but it's far too late for Mass Effect proper. I know for sure that it would see to it that I never own a singleplayer ME again.

Why would EA/BioWare go through the trouble of packaging and distributing the secondary component of the game?

If they felt they would get enough sales it would be profitable that's why.

I don't see why they couldn't do it if they did it for DAI. Sony did this with Uncharted 3's multi-player as well.

I doubt it would be, though. At least when it's part of a larger game, it's bonus content in a product people pay 60+ for along with subsequent microtransactions, but on its own, it'd have to be F2P to really go anywhere, unless they blew it up to be more like ME's answer to Destiny, which I don't see happening.

Think of it this way you are paying $60 for the multiplayer game and they are giving you the single player content for free.

I don't see something like this existing outside of a PC only digital download, just like the Dragon Age: Inquisition trial and in my jaded opinion it was because the multiplayer aspect of the game never took off unlike Mass Effect 3 where for me it is still easier to find groups for Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.

The multiplayer only version of the game should simply be the only version of the game. It's better use of resources to focus solely on the better part of the game.

A volus ragging on a Quarian for being a 'suit rat'?  What are the Volus? Suit pigs?

I like Mass Effect for the story, the multiplayer was the most forgettable and unnecessary part of ME3, at least for me.

The Volus comes the closest to nature's version of perfection that is the sphere. You walking sticks of alcoholic cartilages have no right to slander the Vol-clan. That will be 500 Galactic Credits fee: pay now or in installments with up to 15% interest depending on the number of installments!

.

I'm always playing a MMO (SWToR) and a Singleplayer RPG (Mass Effect 1 at the moment) at the same time. I always have a MMO I'm playing ....

WHY should I play Multiplayer? ;)  I can play in 4-person-groups and make a Flashpoint in SWToR or play in a 16-person-group and make a (Fun-) Raid. I'm not interested in Multiplayer anymore. ;)

Those clanless can't even share a room with their lover naked. They probably just talk dirty and exchange genetic material in vials. It doesn't matter how though, since the last of those poor fools died over Rannoch.

I doubt it even goes that far. Ubiquitous reports of quarian immune weakness suggest they also require a language filter, lest the get sick from impure language. Quarian porn likely sounds like an autopsy - "Inserting primary penetrator into orifice. Proceeding with discharge. Insemination in progress, full ovarian saturation achieved. Redacting penetrator. Procedure complete."

I'd pity them if it wasn't so funny.

Someone's mad

Don't like multiplayer because your race is pathetic in combat, or did you simply lose your credit chit again?
