Something just occured to me: everyone from David Gaider's book The Calling is now potentially dead.

Quite a few people died in The Calling, but there were a few survivors - the Architect, Maric, Fiona, Duncan, Utha and Loghain.

But Maric died in the comics, Duncan bit the dust in DAO, the Architect can potentially die in Awakening with Utha, Loghain can die in DAO or DAI and Fiona can die in DAI.

Everybody's dead, Dave.

Yup. In my Male Couslands 2 worlds, yes, this is what occures and I have another Male Cousland that leaves the Archietic alive.

Hardly surprising considering it is set 30+ years before the events in DAI.

But they didn't die of old age. They all died violent deaths.

There was a war, Blight or some other mayhem going on pretty much all the time.

But even had they managed to avoid a violent death, some would likely have perished of old age during that 30 years.

Since the Architect has basically been confirmed as the same time of creature as Corypheus, I'm guessing rumours of his death are greatly exaggerated.

Point taken for all of the others, though.  Since around 40 years have passed since the calling in current game time, though, it's not hugely surprising.

The others are quite old and time would take them down anyway, but at this point I think it's safe to say that the Architect is able to body-jump like Corypheus, so, he might still alive.

Not denying that. I just thought it was interesting how everyone - EVERYONE - in one of the prequel novels could have been killed by now, even if it didn't stick.

Happily ever afters are rare in Dragon Age.

There's a banter conversation with Varric where one of the companions (I forget which) asks why he doesn't write any happy stories.  Varric explains that happy people are boring to read about.  Readers are more interested when their heroes are tortured.

I always figured that Varric was being a mouthpiece for the writers right then.

EDIT: Found it:

  • Cassandra: Varric, how could you let the Knight-Captain be framed for murder?
  • Varric: Well I did spent three entire chapters setting it up.
  • Cassandra: But she didn't deserve it! You'd already put her through more than enough!
  • Varric: Look seeker, if you love a character, you give them pain, ruin their lives, make them suffer. Maybe even throw in a heroic death!
  • Cassandra: That makes no sense!
  • Varric: But you care enough to argue. If she has a nice afternoon and took a nap you'd stop reading.
