So Gaspard alone gives +10 for Cass to be divine but I'm not sure why I would want Gaspard to rule alone. Can someone give me a good reason for this? Does Gaspard give you an amulet of power?

I also like the wardens and always side with them. They have some good war table missions with them in it. What is it like if they are not your ally? No war table missions?

If you hate the Game, Gaspard wants to get rid of the Game.

If you're a dwarf, you want a strong, expansionist empire. Orlais has always been steadfast allies of the dwarves (hence the reason they appear at the Winter Palace).

If you're a qunari, you know that a warmongering ruler like Gaspard will mean more work for your fellow qunari mercenaries.

Or maybe you have a deep-seated attraction to men with giant ears. Hey, I don't judge ... much.

Basically if you believe that war will solve everything. Go with Gaspard.

But believe me, if that was the case irl. We would still be in the dark ages.

Gaspard solves everything with war. War - What is it good for? Absolutely nothing.

I personally like the Game, which is why I chose Celene with Briala, because I also like lesbians.

What is it good? A lot of things.
The majority of the technology and medicine leaps we had, were made in time of war.
War brings spoils to the winning side, make it more powerful, etc.

That's all well and good for us, but Thedas doesn't seem to benefit in the same way considering their level of technological advancement doesn't seem to advance anywhere near as quickly as ours did even back in ye olde days of yore.

Lets not forget that constant expansionism and conquest has also contributed to the downfall of many empires in the past.

If all you're trying for is for Cassandra to be Divine, I was able to get it primarily by picking the anti-Chantry options with Leliana and telling her (Leliana) that you don't support her vision, in addition to telling Cassandra that you DO support HER and all those types of options. In that play I still recruited the mages as allies and did the Celene/Gaspard/Briala trio option.

Good point. I also noticed that the theme seems to be the more secrets the easier it is for the opponent to exploit them.

Templar/Chantry Lyrium addiction secret = Cory easy takeover

Warden Darkspawn Blood secret = Cory starts the calling

Celene/Briala/Gaspard "The Game" leaves an opening for Cory to use Gaspard's sister to cause chaos.

Still it advances, there is even a surgeon in Skyhold. And the winner stil get money and lands for their side.

And expansionism and conquest made they reach their peak. Just look at Orlais, the stronges Thedas nation, reached the peak by conquesting their neighboors.

Everyones knows about what the Lyrium do to the teemplars, they arent tricked to use Lyrium. And it is a needed sacrfice to protect people from magical threats.

What ending did you get with a three way split?  Did the peace hold?

Briala still with her rebellion and Gaspard still scheming, but they are arfais of the Inquisition to make a move on Celene, who clings tightly in the Inquisition because of it.
It's not the more peaceful one, but is the one ending that gives the Inquisitor more power. With the Inquisition gone, who knows what can happen but if the Inquisition continues, then both Briala and Gaspard will stay at bay, I think.

Gaspard is a good choice because Orlais desperately needs the kick in the pants he provides to the insular nobles and their Grand Game playing nonsense. Florianne nearly took down the empire because Celene was too busy trying to think she was good at what she did.

Besides, Gaspard likes war, but he's not beholden to it. He can make peace very easily. Celene, by contrast, is a slave to the Game.

War also brings ruin and prevents enlightenment from happening. There's a time for war and there's a time for diplomacy. Gaspard knows nothing about true diplomacy and managing a kingdom during peace time. Celene herself was bringing about an age of intellectual prosperity and advancement in the arts and sciences.

Gaspard knows nothing of and doesn't respect anything of the sort.

But anyway, I'll not make this a celene vs gaspard thread. xD

I picked Gaspard in my latest play through because I wanted a strong military leader as head of state. I put less qualified people on a throne (hey there Alistair, moon of my life)

I also despise The Game. Scheming backstabbers, all of them.

We'll see what comes of it in DA4.

I wasnt saying anything about Gaspard, just answering about what good a war can bring.

And if it wasnt by Gaspard, Nevarra would have taken more lands from Orlais, And he did it even with Celene trying to sabotage him. They really should marry, Orlais would greatly benefit from their joint rulership.

I hate the game but can you imagine how evil the Orlesian Empire would be without it?  If they did not waste all their time worrying about the place setting of madame-full-of-**** or le baron de stinky cheese then they might actually focus on things that are more important...like twirlig mustache stuff, conquering the known world, being actually competent at being tyrants instead of laughably cute.

As to the question at hand Gaspard is a competent military leader, someone you need during the crisis at hand given Coryheus's impressive forces.  Short term it works beautifully...long term...well I suppose you could always have him assassinated if it came down to it.

I disagree actually. If Celene was truly a slave to the Game I don't think she would be making the changes that she tries to with the university and the elves. Gaspard may think he's free of the Game but that might just be because he's more traditional which appeals to the nobles.

Magic at the price of blood or lyrium. Science is so much better. I would prefer Qunari bombs, and rogue's poisons from plants.

Possible reasons

He's a good soldier, and you're at war.
He's (arguably) the rightful ruler of Orlais
He's (perhaps) the ruler your Inquisitor simply likes the most, personally
He's (arguably) the least cunning and thus perhaps the most manipulatable ruler
He's (arguably) the worst ruler and perhaps you want to hurt Orlais
Celene (arguably) made a mess of ruling already and Briala would (arguably) cause chaos.
The Maker told you to do it!
