Currently I'm on my first playthrough of the game (PS4), finally starting to spend serious time on the game in the last 6 weeks while still playing way too much GTA V Online with my crew.  I'm just above 80 hours, and feel like I'm halfway through the story, still have lots of places to explore (and re-explore once I unlock the Deft Hands perk), and have killed 3 dragons, finally beating one last night the very first time I fought it.

My characters are around level 16-17 and are becoming pretty powerful and I'm wondering if there is much more room for them to grow before all the exploring and grinding become useless as far as increasing their power.  Is there a kind of artificial level cap, where it takes a ridiculously long time to earn the XP to level up?  How far can I improve my characters before I should look to complete the main story?  Not that I'm in a hurry to finish this awesome game.

I finished my first game with lv 17, I didn't do a lot of side quests and my inky was a douche xD he's now retired.

183 hours without DLCS, then 20 hours more doing Jaws of Hakkon quests, something like 15 more playing the Descent and the rest playing Tresspasser. Total of 227,13 hours according to the last save game :D

In the middle of Jaws of Hakkon my character was already level 27 and had reached 20 of inquisition perks (cap levels) ...

Sounds like I'm right around where I should be.

I cut short my first Inquisitor's leveling because I got impatient to see the end of the story. That mage never even visited the Exalted Plains, Emerald Graves, Hissing Wastes, and only went to Emprise du Lion to get some Fade-touched Silverite! That one took a little over 100 hours.

My second Inquisitor was more thorough, visited everything, collected everything, killed all the dragons, and ended up around 140 hours after Hakkon, but before Descent and Trespasser.

My first time through the game was around 140 hours, but I missed a lot of stuff. My longest completionist playthrough before any dlc and on the hardest difficulty, was over 180.

120 hours.

I actually intended to do a 100% run through, but halfway through the Exalted Plains (is that name right?) I got so bored that I just sped through the rest of the zone, did most of that nighttime desert map (I actually enjoyed some of the tunnels and stuff on the East side), started the Frozen zone, but stopped cause I was just too bored.

The first time ever that I haven't 100%ed a Bioware game.

KotOR - Check

DAO - Check

ME1, 2, even 3 - Check

DA 2 - Check

Jade Empire - Check

DAI - .... nope

I pray to Cthulhu that MEA doesn't do the same boring very large, but empty zones, and I pray even harder that DA4 is more like Trespasser than the rest of Inquisition. Jaws of Hakkon was better than other zones, but suffered from the same issues, Descent was actually my favorite zone overall (discounting Trespasser).

My first?  214 hours.  Which is almost exactly the average across the seven I've completed.

Yes, Completionist here.  Spend waaaay too much time looking for minor bits o' pish and exploring out-of-the-way corners.  I go back and traverse areas with absolutely nothing in them, and I know they have nothing in them,  just so as to fill-in the blank parts of the map.

about 100 hours on my first play through but I missed a lot of stuff. second and third play throughs before any DLC came out went from about 90-95 hours play through. While I did discover more on the second and third play through I remembered stuff I learned from my first play through making some things go quicker.

With a complete run from start to finish including all 3 DLCs I would say my average time is about 120 hours. Also taking account for the base game going by quicker thanks to the Golden Nug. less farming = quicker play times and hardly revisiting an area after I left it.

90 hours, and then when I went back and explored everything, almost 200 hours. If you buy any DLC you will want those higher levels.

The maximum level you can reach is 27, but it's really hard to get there without the DLC.

As for what level you should do content, the recommended levels (shown on the war table) are fairly accurate (the content will only be a suitable challenge within that range). That can be really hard to achieve, however, once you start doing optional stuff (the campaign only really scales up to Level 17, but if you do everything, you'll probably be Level 24 by the end).

All of the 3 DLC packs scale all the way up to the cap (they also make it trivial to reach the cap, sadly), so they can be challenging for characters of any level.

My first playthrough was exactly 200 hours with no DLC, but some of that time was undoubtedly pause menu time. (Which is apparently called the Hero Menu. Who knew?) Was level 24.

My first was 87 hours. I initially was a completionist but the pacing of the game was very bad after Skyhold. With everything going on, I skipped The Forbidden Oasis and the big desert zone since they didn't really have relevant story content and it already felt strange on the eve of battle to take months to fully explore Exalted Plains, Emerald Graves, and the rest of Emprise. I only bought Tresspasser so ended around 98 hours.

My second playthrough I purposely spaced out better being more aware of the story pacing and am at 102 hours and just started Tresspasser. Got a little bored so am giving it a break to see if I will do Tresspasser a second time.

I have about 2 hours of a female Inq started and 8 hours on a 4th, but I don't present plan on pursuing them. That said 2 playthroughs is more than I do for most games. Only other BioWare games for me were ME3 and DA2. Most games I own get the 1 and done treatment.

Not long, since in the first PT I usually rush through the story content as much as possible and then do a more complete PT later. So I think it was something like 60-70 hours.

Main game: 105hrs (did pretty much everything, normal difficulty)
With all DLC: 130hrs (level capped halfway through Descent)

Somewhere significantly over 150 hours. Partly due to getting involved in sub-plots - no one captures/kills soldiers of the Inquisition and lives etc.

The other contributing factor was basic stupidity. How many hours did I spend looking for Ferelden Locks? Who found a certain hidden location to do with shards accidentally first time out, and then forgot how to get there? I could go on interminably, but you should have the picture by now.

And to add, when a BioWare dev posted a "People, get out of the Hinterlands!" message, did I pay any attention?
