Lore and stuff is ok but the one true master and a good learning platform for arc pistol is

The (Techno) Turian Sentinel

He has massive weapon and headshot damage, two powers to stun or weaken enemy protections and is tanky enough to eat some bullets until you headshotted the trooper over there. Stability and damage reduction helps you to keep the focus.

Have fun with this versatile charakter. Also note the reach and flexibility.

Yes, the Turian Sentinel is one of the best (or the best?) class for the Arc Pistol.  It works great in his hands.  But if you're on XBox, prepare for the adventure of charging your weapon with the same finger you use to trigger Overload.  No joke, I sometimes use my thumb to hit the RB when I'm using the Arc Pistol on the TSent.  It makes aiming a little more difficult.

Seriously? My god that sounds downright awful. I've never been glad to be on a PS3 before now...

Wow...I just cannot get that out of my head...that Xbox disrespects the mighty ARC in this way...

I mean, sheesh, I already knew that Bill Gates and Co. would burn eternally in the 9th circle of Hell for trying to pretend that Windows is a usable, functional and/or desirable operating system, but this just goes one step too far!

Ever since the Arc Pistol became cool, I think I'm the only person who still has never really cared for it. You know how people hate the Wraith because of how it sounds? That's me and the Arc Pistol.

Well, you could use your middle finger for the trigger and your index finger for the RB, the way you do with a PS3 controller, but I find that really uncomfortable and annoying with an XBox controller.

To be honest, I didn't know it had 'become cool', except possibly on this forum...it has never seemed highly represented in the lobbies I frequent and among my usual in-game compatriots I am the only one to use it regularly (and always on certain kits, like the Huntress). Even then, it doesn't seem to garner the same devotion around here as some members of what I call the cannon/blunderbuss class of weapons (I.e. the Claymore, Kishock, et. al.)

I have loved it because it so perfectly suits my desires - it is a speed-demon bullet hose that can be a cannon on demand. I tend not to enjoy cannons, generally, but find them occasionally useful; I suspect, however, that most people prefer that quality which is, for me, secondary (or 'icing on the cake, idiomatically). To me, it's like being able to equip one of each, with low weight and no pause for the stilling animation as you switch between them. With those qualities it could sound like The Nightman's beer farts (stop and ponder that sound!) and I'd still be (mostly) in love with it.

ADDENDUM As I consider your dislike of its sound I must, in fairness, admit that I can empathize...I generally dislike the sounds emanating from Krogans and flat-out despise the trailer-park noise of that God-forsaken hammer. In the end, I cannot fault you for admitting an honest aural objection.

...plus, every time I've played with you, you've proven to be an exceptional badass and, let's face it, that goes a long way toward making our differences unobjectionable, know what I mean?

You can invert the shoulder button layout so you do the firing with the top shoulder buttons just like on PS3. But I still don't know what Miniditka77 is talking about, since any change weapon being on a kit where a main power if on the right shoulder button, is still a big no no. Unless you like holding your gamepad like you're Spider-man.

Why I wish Mass Effect 3 gave us the option to map keys as we please. But I know understand that would of been too much for the BioWare programmers to handle. Or they think we've all been bitten by a radioactive spider. ... Now here is that beer? *Thwip*

This is much like why I like my 'nadeless BatSol, Ballistic Blades is just the shotgun I don't have to switch to, I always run an AR on him to compliment this, to cover as many ranges as possible. I don't understand people who use a shotgun on him, and still take Ballistic Blades.

I do wish I could like the Arc Pistol, it's just that charge guns are not fun to use on PS3.

Well said...I hadn't thought of it that way but it perfectly describes the way I actually run the BatSol...for me, with the Lancer.

I will from here on officially think of BB as my gauntlet shotgun.

On Xbox, it is kinda difficult when your stagger power--i.e. overload is the RB button....I use the middle finger technique...Charge the Arc using the middle finger...then use your index finger for RB   ...the middle finger technique also applies to saving your trigger finger when using the Mattock or Raptor...just keep double tapping with the middle & index fingers....as well as getting you fired from jobs you don't like

I, too, have been known to use the middle finger technique.

It's gotten me places...not all of them good.

My favorite technique for Geth Primes.

Same can be said for the shocker. Some chicks dig it, others will institute a stop, dropkick, and roll maneuver on you. And never attempt the Spocker on a chick if you want to live long and prosper. WTF was this thread about again?

^ There's only one finger I'm ever interested in ever using. The 11th one.

But yes, playing Mass Effect 3 with the middle finger is just weird. It shouldn't have to be that way...

I think ive learnt to Arc Pistol! Been using it on my volus engineer and doing quite well. Drill rounds, geth scanner power amp and heavy barrel on the pistol with power amp IV. The cranial trauma system is intriging though. But I'm on console and don't always land the head shot. ;-)

Charge and get headshots. Don't worry about spouting off a couple non charged to down injured enemies. Can shoot and run too.

Can someone explain me a few things here ?

I feel that neural shock is an heresy as it makes headshots horribly difficult and would'nt you be more versatile with warp ammo ?

On PC (where The Techno Turian plays) it is *much* easier to line up headshots, even again Neural Shocked enemies that are spasm-ing or have their heads thrown back.

On console, yeah, Neural Shock can makes headshots harder. But I usually take Neural Shock anyway because the crowd control aspect of it is so helpful.

That was just an example of mine. It's what works best for me (and quite many others), but you may have a different experience.

Neural shock gives you additional damage to targets with health and I remember it beeing more effective against funtoms.

Of course, warp ammo is possible as well. You have to sacrifice piercing or mag upgrade or something else for it.

neural shock doubles overload damage vs organics... so it kinda compensates the HS problem of lying mooks that will die fast anyway

Not even gonna lie,I've never liked the arc pistol.I'm good with all of the charge up/ramp up guns, but having to charge every single shot is too much of a PITA.

But you can fire it without charging !... if you don't mind not doing damage.

Also, the other evo instead of neural shock is cooldown reduction. The increased damage to organics NS gives you is way better than ~.2/sec recharge.

Who cares if it knocks mooks on the ground? If they are it means that they're 1) not firing at you anymore and 2) easy pick'ns.

If you get really good, you can get headshots while charged and running. Only done on PC but maybe doable on console.
