I once had the N7 Collector's Edition on PC on my Laptop a few years ago (Disk Copy). I installed the game (on Disk) into Origin and the game was automatically placed in my game library in my origin Account.

MY laptop is gone, and so is the physical copy of ME3, but the game is still in my Origin library. I noticed this when I logged in to my Origin account on my friends Gaming PC. It was right there, in the library, and I had the ability to download it on that computer, why is that?

I am building my own PC very soon and I wanted to know if I can download Origin, log in, go into my library, and download ME3 on my new PC?

I ask this because I recently received the Mass Effect Trilogy Set (Disk copy) in the mail--which includes ME1, ME2. and ME3 on disk in one set for PC-- and I have heard of complaints regarding the installation of ME3 on disk involving the code included inside the case, which is used to install "all three games," as it says on the paper. They say that when trying to use the same code for ME3, it says "code already used," or something similar to this claim.

This has me EXTREMELY worried. So, in case this happens to me, can I download this previous copy of ME3 from my Origin library to my new PC without a problem? If I am correct, I did not know that my previous copy of ME3 was automatically downloaded into my Origin when installing it to my laptop (from the Disk) a few years ago.

If I can do this, this previous ME3 is, once again, the N7 Collector's Edition. ME1 and ME2 will be installed from the Trilogy Disk Set. Will I still be able to transfer my saved files from ME2 to ME3 after finishing ME2 without a problem, despite being two different versions of the games?

Don't worry about it.
When you get your new PC, log in to Origin & you'll be able to download all 3 games.

But how? I have the set on Disk. There is a code in the case that is to be used to install all 3 on the computer and origin. And I stand by what I said about the complaints I've read online. I have no clue if this problem was resolved. Also, the first copy of ME3 is in my origin library (based on what I saw when logging into my account on my friends Computer. I id not know about this). My first physical copies of ME1 and ME2 were the older retail copies.

Because we live in the 21st century and your account information is stored on their servers?

To repeat what others have said and add a bit more... Dont worry about it! :D

When you register a game on Origin its locked to your ACCOUNT. So that means Anywhere you login to Origin, whether its on your own pc or someone elses all your games on your origin account will be right there ready to download and play.

The only thing you have to be careful of is games that use the EA activation limit (Dead Space 1 and 2 are known for this for example), 5 activations (5 different machines/OS's) i believe is the limit before you have to deactivate other machines and if you've lost them/reinstalled the OS/whatever then your screwed. (Thats exactly what an EA support guy told me >.> ). Mass Effect doesnt use such a limitation however so, as we've said, dont worry about it! :D

Physical disks are just a means of transferring information.   There is literally no difference between having a physical disk and having a digital download.   Only the license matters (which is what you are actually purchasing).    When you entered that license number into origin, that license belongs to you and you can access the software with that license.     Just download, install and go.

just curious i do have mass effect 2 still using the version that includes the disk, as i have all addons, do i still have to use the disk if i would add it to my library on origin?

I could add it, and it seems to recognise all the dlc's i did buy, so i guess it will be fine. As it is still downloading i can't say for sure if i need the disk still to play :)

I have the retail (disk) version of ME2 and it does not need the disk to be used once registered on Origin. The only hiccup i ever had was when i first downloaded it through Origin the .exe kept getting corrupt somehow so the game would never run. But then out of the blue it just worked so i was happy :D

You can end up with a situation with two apparent copies of the game in your Origins library - one the retail version and other is the Origin version. This depends on the age of your original retail version: if the retail version was installed under the program file EA Games then you will end up with two copies (the second being the origin digital edition); all new installs are under Origins Games.
This situation seems to have only occurred with ME1 and some ME2 installs. Very old Retail!

Both work, and use the same saved game files; of course if one has different DLC than the other, the saved game may have a problem.
