I am trying to find advice on defeating Loghain... and its all pretty simple stuff.

Everyone says its easy but I just can't beat him.

I have allistar he does not get knocked down with his one defense activated...

But he can't pummel him because it gets resisted.

I have my main guy a rogue.. I can stun him but I just don't do enough damage to do anything useful.

All the advice on the net is simple but for some reason it seems impossible.

Even guys in the forum say... I can beat him naked.

Seems like i have to drink all my potions and its barely enough. He inflicts lots of damage.

The only thing I can do is try some other Armour but I doubt it will help.

I must have done something wrong in the game to die so quickly here.

I'm playing and Shield Bash works as Alistair but he is really powerful. My entire team was on Archer but i switched it and still can't win the one on one battle.

Just played again and shield bash did not work. I think I had to do cleanse first... I am using Level 7 Armour and equipment.

If you are playing on nightmare,no it's not easy it's pretty unfair really as an elite boss in a 1 vs 1 your character is technically more weak than him.
Same if you try to fight Cauthrien at Howe estate, she is very strong.
It's more easy to win by challenge him and his soldiers togheter.
On my last play i wasn't interested anymore in following the game dictates (basically elite boss super powerful) i pumped my character  with so many stats and attributes that was more akin to a Dragonball character rather than a Dragon age one.

I remember Loghain being a tough fight but I don't play on Nightmare.  Yeah I think I have Alistair fight him for me.  What is your equiptment for Alistair?  What sword do you use?  Maric's sword?  What runes are you using on the sword? Do you have the lesser and regular health poultices?  How did you build Alistair?   That's all I can think of right now.  :)

It honestly surprises me that someone could struggle to beat Loghain.
That said and since your Warden is a rogue, my specialty, here is my method for beating Loghain.

- Drop into Stealth. Ideally, you have Master Stealth.
- Lay a trap, Spring Trap or Bear Trap being the best ones.
- Apply poison to your daggers. Fleshrot is best but add every other poison you have too.
- Hit him with Mark of Death from behind the trap you laid, then step back a little as he runs onto it.
- Hit him with Dirty Fighting and facestab him to death.
If you have Paralyse Runes in your daggers and Fleshrot poison, chances are he won't get the chance to fight back.

This method also works as Zevran.

Thanks for the tips on beating Loghain as a rogue!  I'm currently playing hard as a rogue and I'll have to give that a try.  In previous playthroughs, I always used Morrigan to beat him.

If you had the ranger spec, you could summon a Great Bear or something similar with Master Ranger. It's always a joy to see Loghain get Overwhelmed.

I do something similar with my mage shapeshifters.

No problem, going with what you know is a wise choice.
Whenever I play another class, I fight Loghain with Zevran that's how I know it works with him.

I just have not tried Morrigan to fight Loghain.

But For Allistar I got mostly Cailin's Amour + Shield and Imperial Edge Silverlite sword.

For My Character: Drakeskin stuff. Aodh + Bloodline silverlite.

I have not found any weapons that could use any runes. I have no runes on weapons.

I am watching battles on the internet and those guys are fighting him with way better stuff.

I never got lock-picking capabilities high enough to open stuff. Apparently there is some Legendary outfits and items...

I have just been plucking away through it. Finishing plots and getting stuff that is easy to find.

I am in Hard difficulty. not nightmare.

I will try Morrigan But i believe she will die quickly she has no good armour.

I think the Dwarf set of armor  you find in the deep roads is pretty good.  Legion of dead or something or other and it's free you just have to look up where to find the pieces.  I don't remember where they are anymore.   Maric's blade I think is in return to ostergar dlc.  I don't have Starfang which is in the Warden's keep dlc.  Alistair needs a Heaver armor set though.

Personally I defeated Loghain with Zevran. I used bombs, mark of the assassin, getting in shadows, Dirty Tricks I backstabbed him as much as I could...And Loghain never managed to land a single attack.

As Zevran said: "Hellooo I hope somebody managed to grasp the irony in this?"

Cone of Cold. He’ll never touch her (unless the spell fails).

I forget my exact strategy, but Cone of Cold coupled with Crushing Prison coupled with lots of running was probably something like what I used. Morrigan seems the most reliable vs. Loghain for my purposes.

Yeah, I'd never use Morrigan.  She might be easily able to win, but the idea that using a mage in a formal duel would be acceptable to anyone is just absurd.

I had Leliana fight him and win

I beat him playing as a mage. Using crushing prison, walking bomb and cone of cold really helps make the fight easier

I find the fight with Ser Cauthrien harder than fighting Loghain

tbh so do I I think even the Branka fight is harder than fighting Loghain. I finfd the Loghain fight relatively easy. I do end up going through a few health potions but I can defeat him. Havging asid that though I tend to oinly play these games on their easiest settings given I'm more interested in the story than combat.

Okay I tried using Leliana... but I die so easy. I don't have cone of cone... but its one higher than frost weapens. You all seem to have really advanced far with the stuff.

I think in my game Zevran had backstabbed me and i had to kill him.

Its kindof sad... I may have to just go back in time to beat this game. I am already over 60 hours into this game.

I ended up lowering my difficulty. in order to beat him. This is the first time I had to do that.

I found that you can do more damage to him with daggers and maces than with swords. Armor penetration is key.

I still beat him with swords though, because it looks cooler.

I start out with a level up. I get Indomitable. I use War Cry, and sometimes knock him down. Then I activate Indomitable and throw some grenades that take him down to about half. Then I use the 2H skills. I wait for him to use up his War Cry and Shield Bash, then I switch to dual weapons with shock coating and soldier's bane.

Once Loghain gets low on health, he starts missing a lot of strikes. He's easy to beat at this point. Also, I don't use health poultices, since that seems cheap.

Whenever I knock him down I try to get behind him to backstab (even as a warrior). I can get behind him at least once, and this usually puts us in place for the cut scene to trigger in a logical manner (Loghain facing toward the throne with the Cousland, in my case, facing toward the crowd with the throne at his back).

Today I beat Loghain with Zevran on normal difficulty. I was really proud of him though I gave him all the best equipment in the game (He is the highest damage dealer in my team and it's only right that he gets all the best equipment money can buy or I can find). Used concentrated soldier's bane, dirty fighting, mark of death, stab, stab, riposte, more stabs, dual weapon sweep, punisher and he was gone. He didn't land a single hit on Zev.

Alistair never beats him. My warrior warden, when properly built, can with some difficulty (one or two health potions). My mage and Morrigan can beat him easily with cone of cold, spell might, vulnerability hex, crushing prison.

Grenades, plus the Mabari automatically is a helper (IDK how nor why, since that's kind of again the Landsmeet's rules??), also constant Evasive Cloak before he strikes, then hitting him with as many Two-Handed weapons attacks as your Stamina can allow.

Defeating Loghain becomes absurdly easy on Nightmare if you're playing with all DLC goodies and expansion rewards available to you, at least as a Rogue*. I didn't need to use any poisons or abilities other than Dirty Fighting, Flurry, and the paralyzing/frost/electricity runes in my daggers. Fight was over in about 45 seconds, so quickly that Loghain was glitched into permanent fighting stance afterwards until I saved and reloaded.

*Seriously Nightmare is a joke considering how overpowered you can become with all items available to you and after completing all expansions...

omg.  It's so f-ing easy! Let Morrigan or Wynne do it! Get to a safe distance from him,and then freeze him with ice spells.Once he's frozen, use spells or your magic stuff to damage him. When he gets too close, start running again and freeze him...repeat a few times, and he's down! He's much easier to defeat compares to that Dalish mage leader.

Fighting Loghain is just a matter of stats (your attributes) vs his stats. That's all actually, he have the best balanced stats

As your problem sith Alistair, i guess you set him a tank, put too much in Dexterity and no Constitution i guess? Most of players builds are not balanced, so when Loghain stun and the Assault he could easily kill anyone by that because of lack of HP.

Remember that Dexterity don't block and evade special attacks. So if you get trapped by him (stun, knock down), he can easily kill you because of your lack of HP, also when he do his special attack, you can't block it, can't evade it and you might get killed because of lack of HP

This is his stats at level 20

Strength: 38
Dexterity: 30
Willpower: 33
Magic: 14
Cunning: 18
Constitution: 18

He have a lot of stamina to do special attacks
