The ogre at the start of descent has 75k hp.
Were doing anything between 5 to 200hp each hit. This would take quite literal hours. Plural.
Even ground can be rough...

IMO, it sounds like your party could use a heavy hitter or two.
Varric really shines in Descent since it's mostly tight spaces and clustered mobs meaning Elemental Mines can make short work of enemies, provided he's built right.

Sera, dorian, Varric.
I upgraded their weapons and grabbed leaping shot on both.
It got easier when Sera wasn't using a 66 weapon damage bow and only dealt damage when it was sundered. Still odd that they never manually used their skills. Like ever. Sera and varric were mostly auto attacking. Varric used FBP and ele mine ok I guess but they didn't use leaping or any flasks at all and dorian was sitting on winters grasp the whole fight.

Even worse when I keep getting interupted as the tank.
Plus my laptop can barely run descent so it's mostly like 10-15fps every fight.
As a side note I hate health sponges as well. They are not fun at all.
Like "oh no I'm grabbed. The world has ended. Yay I'm free! Thanks valta."
(Origin grabs were so much more brutal >.> Without force field a high dragon/ogre grab was...not good.)

if you notice something weird with your companions ai tactics, double check their preferred abilities if everything is fine then in ai menu for behavior uncheck and re enable ai tactics for each companion (and their appropriate stamina reserves....which should be at 0-10% mostly).
If that does not help (game is still glitchy) companions not using all abilities etc, quit and relaunch the game. I had this happen on ocassion that ai was weird, after I respecced the ability points on someone. Relaunching the game generally fixed it, or you have to constantly spam the "attack my target" command which can get annoying. Of course make sure your tank follows you (controlled character) and everyone else follow the tank.

I am the tank, and everyone is ranged so I have them follow themselves.
I don't like them running into melee.

I miss Origin grabs. I dont think anything else has made me freak out more in a video game than seeing alistair killed by one.

Having soloed that DLC more times than I can count, here's a tip: you can just skip past the first ogre.
There's also a bug, he will sometimes randomly die much later as you explore the lower levels, and his loot will then spawn at your feet.

That could be a bug. I've had the same problem where no one used any abilities unless I manually told them to. If you restart your game they should start using their abilities again.

How are you only doing 5-200 damage per hit?
Varric alone should be able to do anywhere between 500 and 4000 damage per hit, whilst Sera should be able to do between 700 and 2000 damage per hit.

I found that setting all reserves on mana/stamina and pots to zero helped in there, then set what you want them each to use most to preferred and, go for it. Just have to pause and manually make them use regen pots if they need them after fights, and use only regen for yourself to save the healing for the rest. Supply Caches are rare in there so, need perks for max pots, then go sparing on them since they only use healing automatically.
Also need upgrades and, 100+ DPS weapons all around. A fire mage will struggle, if that's you. Some enemies are immune to both fire and MotR so, make you as inferno only useless. Also having a KE along is great for revive, some of your crew will die in there, unless you are leveled and geared to solo it. I can run it on a tem at 14 and solo at 18 on a KE/Fire mage so, it really isn't that bad if you are geared and upgraded for it.

Heh, I accidentally did that with the first Sha-Brytol battle (the one with all the eyes). Went down by myself in stealth to scout, saw the number of enemies, and did a 180 back to the lift. I didn't have a whole lot of grenades at that time, and I wanted to restock before actually fighting.
Ended up going up to the topmost camp, then saving. When I loaded up the save, lo and behold I had a pile of knapsacks at my feet... and I was stuck in combat, presumably waiting for the post-battle death cutscene to trigger. Since I was all the way at the topmost camp, with no way to port to a closer camp, I either had to walk all the way back, or reload.
I reloaded. Don't try to skip out of the first Sha-Brytol fight, kids.

I don't get something here. Even Ground scales enemies to your level. The Descent itself scales enemies to your level. That means this particular Trial has no effect on enemies in The Descent.
So my question is: why we're talking about Ogre and Even Ground?
I'm sorry, I'm just confused. This thread would make sense to me if it was about Walk Softly...

That explains a lot actually.

I agree to this. if Sera and Varric dont have the Pincushion passive. You should get it.
I did my Descent when i was about level 22-24 with even ground and walk softly An ogre with 75k hp sounds normal to me.

But like others said, Descent is perfect for hard-hitting abilities that are usually more difficult to use against every enemy at once. Things like Varric's Elemental Mines & Spike Trap, Fire/Ice Array, Toxic Mist w/ Elusiveness, Earth Shattering Strike are all very effective in Descent because of the way enemies & the environment will group together.
