EA Has No Interest in HD Remake Market

“Remakes, because of who we are, and this broad portfolio of intellectual property…you add all that together, I don’t know where we find the time to do remakes…we’re a company that just likes to push forward.”

Unfortunately for those gamers who anticipated the possibility of a Mass Effect HD Remastered Collection, it appears EA is a long ways off from considering that idea a viable prospect. In fact, Moore also vocalized his surprising opinion on backward compatibility, stating that “in the old days, backward compatibility was to convince your mom to buy the new console”.

Honestly didn't see that one coming. Don't know if it's a 100% bad thing for ME and DA given that those games don't really need a HD remake to PS4 and Xbox One. Earlier games like Jade Empire, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and other properties and franchises that EA owns like Wing Commander, Command and Conquer and Ultima that really need the HD Remakes to the new consoles and probably PC too.

I can see why EA would avoid doing remakes.

Think of the debates between camps: Some people wanting the ME1 be totally re-imagined in order to fit more in line with 2 or 3. All the while purists would try to defend the integrity of the original title in its intended form.

Some people would ask (if not demand) that ****** romances become available in ME1, or maybe even Tali and Garrus.

People would ask for the restoration of the "no one left behind" option in which you could save both Kaidan and Ash.

And lets not forget the whole priority earth mission in ME3. Why re-open old wounds and make people have hopes that the ending part of the trilogy would be reworked?

I can totally see why EA wants to distance themselves from HD remakes.

If you want a HD (of sorts) my best suggestion is to try the pc version and install mods. They can really give the trilogy an intense face-lift.

My view is that it's still an enjoyable play-able game.

HOWEVER, if you are mostly a console gamer (like me), then playing on old consoles are utter torture. I have it on ps3 and the amount of crashing is just beyond awful. I couldn't use ANY biotic abilities or any abilities for that matter against Saren in the final fight because it would crash, or it would crash in the screen after the fight thus causing me to re do it about 10x before I googled and realised how to get through it.

I want to get it on PC but the fact that DLCs are more expensive than the actual game puts me off.

Only a very few companies make actual HD remakes, like Metro 2033 or the upcoming Yakuza saga, that will have the two first games resmatered in a new engine. Everything else is just HD ports. HD ports tend to suck. I mean, look at Dishonored, or Darksiders 2.

In the end, companies won't make remakes because they would cost more then they are willing to pay, and HD ports are mostly half hearted. Still, it would be an instant buy from me if they ever announced an Dragon age redux or Mass effect trilogy done on frostbite.

what they should do is make a DLC PACK...thats what I want anyway. Won't happen, because - money.

None of the games need HD remakes or remasters. They all hold up relatively well compared to modern games. I'm guessing what people are really asking for is a port of the trilogy to the new consoles. I don't think that's unreasonable, but it would require a significant amount of time and effort to port all three games plus DLC to two machines.

So disappointed by this. Would love to have the HD Trilogy on PS4 :(

Understandable. They are working on Andromeda, and probably on other games.

HD remakes are popular but not for Ea :)

Remaking the games on a new engine would be nearly as much work as making a new game. They'd have to remake all the character models and animations for a start.

Seems strange. Isn't that essentially what they do with all their sports franchises year after year?  A remaster for Madden, some NBA game, etc....

I now have like three copies of Halo: Combat Evolved.  There's precedent.

Something to remember is that EA are going to be making money from the trilogy hitting backward compatibility services on the new consoles without lifting a finger. It's essentially free money for them.

Another thing that I've discussed on the forum is the level of profit they'd make from a HD rerelease, would it be enough to justify the work especially considering the aforementioned backwards compatibility. Remember it's not just enough to make a profit these days but it has to be a pretty substantial one. Dead Space 3 made a profit but is considered a failure.

Lastly consider PR. When you have a new entry in the franchise coming out, would you risk the fuss over the Mass Effect 3 endings kicking off again and potentially harming the brand right when you need the hype to be the strongest?

If we do ever see a HD remake of the Mass Effect Trilogy, I think it will be after Andromeda has come out.

I'm disappointed. I understand why this might not be a priority, but Mass Effect deserves a remaster. Maybe they'll consider it at some point in the future; they're busy with the future of Mass Effect right now.

I can see a remake not happening until 2020s with newer tech and way to portray the games (while still being mostly respectful to the material).

HD remake/remaster in next 5-10 years though sure. Maybe.

PC gamers don't really need an HD remake because there are numerous mods to improve the texture quality and overall visuals with programs like SweetFX and ENB so we don't actually need BioWare to do it, we can do it ourselves hence I don't think we need a remake.

Disappointing for people who want it on PS4 or Xbox One but I don't mind that much. I could get by with the current games fine as long as the black pixel AMD bug in the original game is fixed which also won't happen.

Is it the CPU or GPU from AMD which causes the bug? My current system has an AMD FX-6300 CPU and a Nvidia GTX970, I've encountered no black pixel issues in the first game.

Its hard to recall, but I MIGHT have had this bug and done something about it, but I can't even remember if I even experienced it, let alone the solution :S

Running on old AMD hardware (Phenom II and 6850) and I've noticed no bug. Could it have been a driver issue back in the day?

AMD processors (bulldozer or later chipsets) may have an issue, because Mass Effect detects the AMD CPU and will be looking for the 3DNow instruction sets that existed when ME was made. AMD has ditched these instructions in their latest processors, resulting in miss-timings and faults in communication between Mass Effect and the CPU. You may see black textures for characters and may have crashes and poor stability.
