Well, you'd be a pro at wiping out mobs. I would bring cole though, or another companion with really high single target dps. Otherwise you'd wipe out at every boss fight.
Oh and spec solas with ice and you with fire primarily. or vice versa.

I don't know about "good", but I ran my first playthrough with Solas and RM IQ and it worked out great. At high XP level it starts to get pretty ridiculous with a bunch of Stonefists flying all over the place.I am thinking of playing with 2 rift mages on my next play through. Is this a good idea ?

Rift Mages actually have synergy with each other. One can focus on the weakness upgrades, the other can go straight damage, and both can benefit from the mana regen and damage bonuses.

aoe debuff are nice if you have someone who can deal high dps or sustained damage like toxic cloud or blizzard. And have you or solas bring fire spells for damage-over-time effect. if you have high crit chance you can use that with Flashpoint passive in inferno tree to get one of your abilities to cost no mana.
In my honest opinion. Rift mage is the best of all three specializations anyway ![]()

Two rift mages are monsters on the battlefield, so yes, it's a great idea. I played a rift mage in a previous run and often had Solas with me during the main story. Tis' a lot of fun ![]()

Yeah having played all 3 mage specializations on my characters rift mage is my favourite as well. I quite enjoyed the Knight enchanter but not as much as Rift mage.

This. Also altering the builds a little for elemental attacks can be beneficial (ie; varied staves, Wall of Fire vs Static Cage, etc).

What I'm wanting to do is do go Double Storm Rift Mage, Solas with Ice Staff, Inquisitor with Fire. If I did it right, then nothing should be able to stand up under it.
I'll sit back at a distance, and watch things melt under Chain Lightning, Energy Barrage, Stone Fists, Veil Strikes, and Static Cages.

Fire mines dealing from an average of 20-25k crits and highs of up to 50k crits.
When a mage can do as much single target/ multiple target damage or even more than a rogue its crazy.
Rift mages have the mana sustain/damage bonus and cc to make inferno mage a very powerful mage. 2 Rift mages is even better!
