Hey guys, I've recently gotten several good shields and was looking for a consensus on the best shields currently.  I enjoy tanking and am looking for ways to improve.  I have the Dwarven Proving Shield, Revered Defender, Stinking Cheater, and Shield of the Dragon.

My current thought is that the Revered Defender would be best will the Templar, giving her a way to generate guard without picking up crappy skills.  I assume its upgrade would be even better, as Walking Fortress on a templar would be awesome.

As for the Lego, I seem to always have a full guard most of the time, except for emergencies where I would be hitting Walking Fortress anyways.  So I'm torn between the Dwarven Proving Shield and Stinking Cheater.  Stinking Cheater has very high armor and nice stats, but the Dwarf shield has the nice dmg buff.

  Suggestions?

Edit:  Also, if a shield I dont have is better, would still be interested for future reference.  Thanks!

I would say the best depends on your situation.

If no hakkon 1h, then the unique level 26 descent shield

If you have a hakkon 1h but low crit chance then stinking cheater (5% crit chance)

If your crit chance is acceptable dwarven proving shield (or its unique variant, cant remember its name atm)

if your just blatantly OP, just use Wintersbreath (I believe thats the name, its the berserk shield)

The Knight's Second (Trespasser) is nice too.
A Guardian Spirit will block an attack every 30 seconds.

Too true.

The unique shield that gives +5% attack per enemy around is the March of the Everlasting, and it gives strength instead of cunning.

Other notable shields are:

  • Magehunter - Guard on hit as well as magic and spirit resistance, so it is good for those with low willpower.
  • Emperors Shield - Extra healing bonus and slight health return over time.

Magehunter is also amazing on the Templar as it allows you to keep up guard easily even if you're only using Shield Wall sparsely (mostly to attack cancel). Personally, it changed her from squishy to almost unkillable.

The reason Magehunter is so good on the templar is because she has a core passive that raises her armor by 20% if she has guard. That's a very good buff.

All this time spent playing 180 or so Nightmare matches and a chunk of Heartbreaker, and I have one Hakkon.
All this time spent playing and I don't have Yavannalis, or whatever the hell it's called.

My only Hakkon is the 1hs but I am still using a bad blue shield. I do have 10 dragon bows however. RNG is the devil. If the next game has the same RnG process I will not get the game. PERIOD.

I have salvaged 5 or 6 of them.

See above.

I have salvaged probably 20 of these.

I have 5 of those.  You don't salvage the Sulevin Blade.

Let me rephrase that.  The only salve I use on the Sulevin Blade is the blood of my enemies.  "Sully" particularly loves the glistening sheen she acquires when bathed in Red Trampler blood, but she isn't picky; a salve rendered from Venatori and Qunari are also acceptable.

I love the Shield of the Anointed, which I see hasn't been mentioned yet. Use it mostly on the Templar.

Level 24 Unique

35 Armor Rating

30% Front Def (natch)

+30 Max Health

+14% Melee Def

2% Chance to cast Fade Cloak on Hit

That last bit is the reason I love it. It procs way more often than 2%, more like 5-10% in my experience.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the duration of the Fade Cloak is at least 5 seconds, maybe 6-10. I realize that's a large range, but the point is that it's long. It will save your Baquon.

Emperor is best for the lego. Using 2 damage or crit chance rings or ability rings letting the shield heal you if and when they break your gaurd is way bettrr thsn a crappy damage bonus. Templar ehh use whatever.

My best ones are isatunoll, shield of the dragon and march of the everlasting.

I'm using isatunoll on my LEGO.

Damage bonus that multiplies with attack rather than is additive with it. The other shield that does this is Dirthamen's Wisdom.

See: http://forum.bioware...pment-document/

For a large list of MP equipment, including shields.

There's a lot of fantastic shields. I have a sizeable collection despite only using the damage shields recently. Gotta have'm all.

Anyone knows the proc rate on the Stinking Cheater?  I had it for a while now I have only see the green cloud like 3 times after thousands of swings.  It is not like it matters but I was just wondering.

The proc is on being hit not on hitting the enemy which is why it doesn't proc much.  Another great job by bioware in the item/ability description department.

Ohhhh....... :D   I am guessing that getting hit with full guard does not considered a hit?   Because I am pretty sure I got hit most of the time with the 1's damages with guard on.

I had the same issue when I first got it.  I played a whole game with it never spawning a cloud, so I thought it was busted.  To be fair, it does make sense that a shield would proc on being hit, but none of the others were like that so I also assumed it was busted.

It may be proccing without your knowing it.  The cloud spawns around the enemy, not around you.  So if an archer hits you from across the map, the toxic cloud would appear around the archer and you may never even see it.
