If your own head cannon is the one absolute set in stone, people would not still be debating about it 6 years later.
Just saying it's all subject to interpretation. To insult someone because they did not get to your same conclusion ain't cool. I played Origins 18x and I still believed he abandoned Cailan. And his actions after that kind of cemented my own opinion on Ostagar. Like... declaring himself regeant over his queen daughter and last and certainly not least..."King Loggy" anyone?
I think he abandoned Cailan too. I just read it differently..I guess.
It's still malicious, but not so black and white. He feels justified because Cailan put so much faith in "legends". Loghain comes from an entirely different state of mind, almost like the real world. He doesn't like far fetched ideas and legends. He's more straightforward and simple . And he has a lot of misplaced pride in the average Ferelden... he thinks guts and bravery will ultimately defeat the Blight. He tries to rouse people up in the end at the Landsmeet this way too. How Fereldens have been through everything and can even defeat "the Blight itself!"
So he disses Cailan in that moment. He might have been mulling it over before too. I'm sure Howe planted thoughts in his head.
It also didn't help that Cailan and Bryce Cousland were making inroads with the Orlesians.
All of this came to a boiling point at Ostagar.
Does it mean I don't want to kill Loghain? Nope. I generally do. But I like playthroughs of redemption as well.
