I don't understand the whole "Warden going off to cure him/herself" thing in Inquisition, because I'm in the "Avernus knows what he's doing" camp. I think it's pretty clear that his blood magic only extended his natural lifespan, and had nothing to do with the taint. He says it himself: "blood magic comes from demons - but the darkspawn taint - that is alien to them." His modified Joining potion therefore must be the ingredient that ameliorates the worst aspects of the Joining. Avernus has never heard the Calling.
Yes, I know the immediate response is - "That journal! He mentions hearing a song!" BUT, is everybody completely forgetting that there is a BLIGHT going on when you find that journal entry? The Archdemon is certainly proven powerful (and noisy) enough that ALL wardens hear it, even the two very junior wardens of Ferelden. Plus, Avernus, should you spare him, is still alive, kicking, and experimenting ten years later, as evidenced by the blood potion he mails to the Warden-Commander, which is then intercepted by Hawke in DA2. He doesn't experience the Calling. He's not even close to losing his formidable mental faculties.
My Warden is still a Warden, just not doomed to wither into a crazy ghoul. He gave the improved potion to Alistair and all his personal recruits (because Weisshaupt would throw a fit if they knew - not that I don't believe for a second that the Tevinter Wardens, with their centuries of institutionalized slavery and unlimited freedom to practise blood magic behind closed doors, haven't come up with something even better) That is my headcanon, and I'm sticking to it.
