Let's face it. We won't get nice hair in any Bioware game ever (Except maybe Star Wars the old Republic. That actually has some hairstlyles I like). Right now they are probably sitting in a meeting and are saying: "What, the fans want nice hair-options? Ok, we'll give them the Krem-style-undercuttm and nothing else. Because clerly everyone loves the undercut."

Well IRL mammals are the only animals that have hair (what we call "hair" on insects is actually structured totally differently from mammalian hair). The reproductive biology of ME aliens isn't really discussed; quarians are definitely mammals (and have hair), the asari possibly are too (considering they possess mammary glands... ahem), but the turians and krogan likely are not, and it's explicitly confirmed that salarians lay eggs.

I would just like to point out that while quarians (and asari) may look mammalian, they are not actually mammals. Mammals are species belonging to a specific class of animals on Earth and is defined by many characteristics, not just the mammary glands. While quarians may look mammalian, I doubt that they would actually be classed as mammals within the ME universe anymore than salarians would be classed as amphibians (which I know that Liara refers to them as, but that's a rant for another day). Calling the ME species mammals, lizards, birds, or amphibians is very geocentric (?) thing to do, and I would think that aliens would be offended if we tried to insert them into our own classification system.

Sorry, just something I've wanted to get off my chest for a while.

OT: I personally don't mind the variety of hair styles in the trilogy. For the character of Shepard, an N7 operative, it made sense to have shorter hairstyles. And while I might like to see some longer hairstyles in Andromeda depending on what kind of character we play, I would be okay with an absence of them since I realize that it could prove difficult to implement in regards to clipping and such.

What I do mind, however, is the actual quality of the hair in BioWare games. They've never been great-looking on a technical level, and in DAI they were outright bad, made worse by the otherwise gorgeous game. In Andromeda, which will undoubtedly look at least as good as DAI, we need hair that looks as good as the rest of the game. Nicely modelled and textured, and a bit of physics would not be out of place. Perhaps they don't have to go all TresFX on us like in Tomb Raider, but at least give us some basic movement. Even DA2 had a little bit of hair movement, so it seems odd not to have in new-gen games what they had in an old-gen one.

And stop restricting hair by gender.

Unless I'm mistaken, most if not all of the hair options available in Inquisition are also available for both genders. Heck, Erimond uses a hair model used in one of the several female presets in the CC.

Bioware should troll everyone by having a myriad of majestic hair options and then somewhere in the tutorial for some obscure plot reason you need a buzz cut to continue.

I was very happy about that and I hope they do the same in Mass Effect because I dearly want a ponytail or a bun as an option for male characters as well as female characters. I have this design in mind where it'll fit so well. I also hope they implement the Mass Effect equivalent to the Black Emporium especially because of the Mirror of Transformation.

Could be interesting if they implement something that allows you to have a different hairstyle when you you are on duty and when you are not on duty but that could have the Pathfinder humorously regrow beard and hair after each battle.

GUYS. You don't need long hair to have pretty hair.

Just make something that looks decent, no matter the length or style. Please. No plastic, no overly shiny hair. SOME movement. Pretty, please.

but it wasn't their priority in some of their games and some of them do require actual money... the only way they could listen to our need for customization need was to make Mass Effect/Dragon Age into an MMO and we charge them for the mods.

Exactly. Short hairstyles are very varied and stylish.
Surely if all short styles have balding hairline as in DAI, are bad. (really, why so much baldness in DA?)

Or just simply let us use the mirror in the toilet/bathroom. I'd be happy even with that.

nothing wrong with copying some of these ideas into the new game though and I think they should. We know Frostbite is moer capable than it's showing they just need to up the ante now they've gone onto new gen. Heck it's starting to look like Fallout is about to get better hair than Bioware's games atm and given Bethesda aer using an old engine I think that would be embarrassing as Leliana would put it.

Bioware can make nice hair.

*snip*

Do you know where the short and ruffled hair is from; the one to the right at the top row? Because I've seen the others but I do not think I've seen that one before.

Star Wars: The Old Republic, I feel, do have some nice hair and a very good character creator considering the limitations of the sliders.

I think SWtOR's hair benefited from not having a realistic art style.

I'm sorry, but hair is something you painfully suck at. Amateur modders have no problem making nice LONG hair, why can't YOU do it?

If amateur modders can do it, then there is no need for them to do it.

This seems to be a standard, I guess there is some technical issue involved, maybe they can't guarantee supporting long hair on all platforms and graphic settings. If so it might make more sense for them if modders do it as they do not have a commitment to support their mods eveywhere.

As others have said; time, standards and such are likely reasons.

Furthermore, people tend to apply a different standard to mods and be more forgiving of mod-related issues because mods are optional content that they choose to install and so if the issue is listed by the mod creator then they know the risk of using it.

In regards to hair, take two things such as mod hair clipping through armor or mod hair appearing stiff is tolerated. These issues are tolerated or accepted by many because they like the hair. There is also how it is recommended that you play many of the hair mods on high setting,

With developers, people tend to apply a certain standard and be less forgiving towards issues such as clipping and hair appearing stiff. It is considered a sign of laziness and a lack of proper testing by some.

There is also how it is recommended by or insisted upon by quite a few creators of hair mods that when you use their hair, that you play it with high graphic. I am not so certain this would go over well if a developer had said this.

With exceptions and barring personal imposed time restraints, mod creators tend to not have to worry about deadlines concerning their mod-related work, limited resources geared towards this sort of content and can take the time they need to finish and polish their work.

The biggest problem is that the hair is shitty quality for men and women, it seems they get their reference from lego when all i wanna do is look like james dean. Also saying guys with long hair aren't sexy is dumb, its like saying you don't think Scarlett Johanson is sexy, you can say it but it doesn't mean anything because she just is.

The problem is though that not everyone can get mods to work and also consoles can't use them either so really we need Biowaer to look at and improve this if they do0n't want to do it on the main game and they want a bit of extra cash then maybe they can sell more via DLC like they do with armours/weapons and whatnot. I'd rather they put them in the main game but it is an option I suppose for those that deo want moer than is being offered.

I agree with you. To clarify what I was saying for the third (and hopefully final time) I'm not against giving males long hair personally as I know some males do have long hair an I ackmnowledge that some do find it attractive. I was just saying that I personally don't find it attractive that was all. On females I do but not so much on males it's just a personal taste,I wouldn't use any of the longer styles on a male when creating one. I would only likely use them on my female heroes.

I'm a pc idiot, so I have to ask: Is it possible to have "Final Fantasy-hair" with the Frostbite Engine WITHOUT to mutch performance loss?

EDIT: I don't like the SWToR hair, sorry. Looks fake and ugly, for my PERSONAL taste. The haircuts in SWToR are great, but the hair ..... horrible.

I'm so happy that most of my characters are Twi'Leks. :P
