Starting playing DA:I again, Never did Dorian and Bull romance. How do you trigger and lock that romance down?

I'm a little confused here. Are you asking about how to romance either Bull or Dorian, or you want to see them get together?

I think you just have to take them with you frequently

them together.

You don't romance either of them, and keep their approval high enough not to leave you (Bull won't leave anyway, because he's getting paid for the job), other than this, just take them with you sometimes and they will confirm it in a party banter, and later, in the Trespasser epilogue.

You have to trigger their banter. It's quite hard to get due to the banter bug but it's possible. Just have them with you constantly and eventually you'll get the banter. You can't have it happen if you are in a romance with either of them, obviously.

Once their banter has triggered you can ask Bull and Dorian about it in a special dialogue option in Skyhold. It's an easy way to check whether they're together.

I had Bull asked Dorian if he was alright, and Dorian just grunted. I'm assuming that's NOT the trigger banter. Though considering Bull it might have been.

The trigger banter is Bull mentioning their last time in bed together, it's pretty clear when you hear it.

Anyway, the only way to trigger it is to wait for their banter, now obviously you could just travel around with them and hope for the best, but that was not enough for me. I also think you have to have resolved both their companion quests and not being in a romance with either at that point, but I am not sure.

On my last playthrough I spent 4 in-game hours just having a party with Dorian, Bull and Cole sit and have banter near the end game to unlock it.

I have a few pointer in that regard if you wanna do the same:

 - Supposedly banter runs on a 15 minute timer along with enviromental dialogue. Many people would recommend Hissing Wastes to stand around in, but I got a lot of ines about sand instead, which became frustrating so I moved to the exalted plains, where I had more success.

 - Other recommended that I bring Cole for some reason. Apparently he helps trigger it, but I had to suffer a lot of Cole/Iron Bull banter, so I am not going to do that again, I think.

 - It was also said that invetory slots that have the small "new" glint icon takes up processing space and can bug out banter timers, but I have no idea if this is actually true at all. Unchecking everything didn't really change anything for me.

 - The 15 minute timer resets between loading screens. It does not while you travel between camps in a area, but when you travel to a new one it will reset.

I got banter pretty reliably every ~13 to ~16 minutes or so by doing this. I just stood outside the camp to the north of the Dalish because not as many wolves spawned and interruted my picnic sessions with random combat.

Yeah I never bring a 4th companion on the banter trips. Cole just throws around his own banter instead of triggering Dorian/Bull

I need help in this area as well, I've finish HLTA and dragging dorian, bull and cole through Emerald Graves.
Last dorian-bull banter i got was:
Dorian: "Iron Bull, becareful where you point that thing!"
IB : (laughs) "Dirty."
Dorian : "Vishante Kaffas! I meant your weapon!"

How far am I in trigerring their romance?

I've done dorian's quest, but postponed IB's (role play reasons ;) since I plan for my Inquisitor's motivation to win Bull's loyalty not for her sake, but for Dorian

Thx

I'll right, I'll give all those a hand seeking this option.

If your on PC, I highly suggest you download CheatEngine, then use this.

If you on console it maybe a bit more tricky since there is a banter bug.

What you need to do:

*Bull and Dorian must be recruited (duh).

*You must not be in a relationship with Bull or Dorian.

*The relationship you ARE in must be locked.

*Your approval with Dorian and Bull must be high enough for them to call you a friend.

*You need to complete Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts and The Abyss. And this must be done before, "What Pride Had Wrought."

*Having a third person in the party does make the banter between Dorian/Bull harder to appear. I suggest you download the above and just stand in a safe spot and let the two banter back and forth  (This option to have endless banter can be a setting you turn on with C.E.). At some point the following dialogue will happen:

  • Iron Bull: So, Dorian, about last night...
  • Dorian: (Sighs.) Discretion isn't your thing, is it?
  • Iron Bull: Three times! Also, do you want your silky underthings back, or did you leave those like a token? Or... wait, did you "forget" them so you'd have an excuse to come back? You sly dog!
  • Dorian: If you choose to leave your door unlocked like a savage, I may or may not come.
  • Iron Bull: Speak for yourself.

Once you hear the above banter, return to Skyhold when you can. Speak to Iron Bull, then Dorian.

*If you want a happy ending with Bull/Dorian, The Chargers must remain alive. If they do not, well, sadness all around.

*You do not need Cole in the party for the banter to trigger.

Note: If Bull and Cassandra did not have their banter to which Bull flirts with her, the dialogue will change once Dorian and Bull are together.

Cassandra will also comment on the reltionship to Bull when in party.

Wait, does that mean you have to be in a relationship?

I am not sure on that front. Never tested it. All I know is the relationship you are in must be locked.

Well, if you do, it may explain why I never triggered their romance in my first 2 playthroughs, but since I have never triggered it at all, I think I just didn't get enough banter.

So basically female Lavellans who romanced Solas cannot ever trigger it, because their romances are locked only after "What Pride Have Wrought"?

I assume so, but don't take my word on it. I never played and an elf much less a female who romanced Soias.

Here's the thing:

I only have my character romance Cullen. His relationship is locked once Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts and The Abyss is completed. I never got any Bull/Dorian romance dialogue before that. Once it was locked, I got the dialogue.

The relationship between Dorian and Bull can only be triggered if your romance is locked in. IF not the game's code strings assume there maybe a chance you could break-off your romance and choose to be with Bull or Dorian. Thus you won't get the dialogue.

If I had to guess: since the romance with Solas is locked after, "What Pride Had Wrought" its possible to get the banter between Dorian and Bull but you may not be able to comment about it to either of them back at Skyhold.  Does this affect the slides at the end of Trespasser? Maybe.

Sounds like someone, anyone could test this. :)

them together.

You just play the game. It happens no matter what you do outside your PC romancing one of them.

My current Inquisitor is not romancing anyone except occasional flirts with Harding and he did not do WEWH yet, but was able to trigger Bull - Dorian romance dialog and talked to Dorian about it.  But I pretty much run 100 hours of game with only Bull, Dorian and Cole in the party, only switching to others when doing their personal quest, so I had plenty of opportunity for banter.

They can still trigger it. I have a Lavellan who romanced Solas and I've gotten the Dorian/Bull romance. I was using the cheat engine to hurry things along, but I don't think it's required. I was also able to bring it up with both of them in Skyhold, it was further mentioned in Trespasser and I got their epilogue slides.

Interesting. Maybe Harding runs on a different rules? I do know that I ran around with Bull and Dorian without being locked in with Cullen and they do not mention their relationship. Yet as soon as as Cullen's romance was locked, I could not get those two to shut up about their romance. :P

Still good to have more information/confirmation. :D

Funny thing is,  my Inquisitor still has the option to start Dorian romance.
