I have no shame in saying that I used the Default Shepard and I am hoping that ME:A has a Default Designer Model Protagonist for both genders. Also it would be nice if there is two options for voice overs with one being an American and the other being British/English. I would definitely like a to see and hear a British/English accent on a female model protagonist in ME:A.

I actually kind of rather that they come up with decent presets over a face scan of real people, preferably one we could tweak if we so prefer. As for the voices, it would be great to have options for accents and such, but the only reason Inquisition even had it was to cater to multiple races. Here, it seems a needless cost.

Manshep worked, though I do wish he had green eyes. Dunno wtf femshep was supposed to be though. There's a mod on the nexus which tones her down a bit which I quite like. I'll go with defaults since they have a higher visual fidelity (potentially) but only if I'm not actively put off by their faces.

A default appearance we can modify that initially appears as a synthesis of many races/ethnicities, so a palette everyone can work from...

I preferred Sheploo to nearly every non-modded custom male character I've seen. Sheploo's character model was just a lot more detailed and seemed less plastic.

With Dragon Age: Inquisition however Bioware stepped up its game with the character creator, outside of the hair options, and it was possible to create characters that looked at least as detailed or realistic as default Shep in ME3. On that note I might go with a character created in the CC in Andromeda if Bioware can improve on the hair.

I never use default. It usually isn't how I want My character. I liked Sheploo face structure, but not the hair (both color and style) and the eye shape. For femshep, I only liked the hairstyle but not the colour or the face.

A good selection of different well done preset that can be changed like in DAI without restricted hair/beard/eyebrows would be good.

Oh god, I hated Sheploo. Looked awful. Sure, it was more detailed than a custom MShep, but the face was stupid.

I just want to be able to create a face that I won't hate when I'm done, or at least to be able to play with the presets. Sheploo's face structure was the only that looked "natural" I would have liked to be able to put other hair and colours on it.

At least I was lucky enough to fall in love with ME3's femshep preset. and have the awesome Blood Dragon Armor for my maleshep (femshep used the collector's armor for ME2, In ME1 I just dealt with it as best as I could.)

The few playthroughs I have as maleshep I didn't use the default look. I made them look similiar to Charles Bronson

I have used a default look a few times for femshep. The other times I just changed a few things to get the look I wanted

If they are able to recreate the character creator from Inquisition with better hair I don't think I am going to have a problem using the character creator to make a custom character.  I really don't want to have multiple voice actors for gender for the game, to me it hurt other aspects of Inquisition by limiting how much voice acting they can use in the game and I rather not have that happen to Mass Effect.  Now if BioWare does put an accent on the voice of the protagonist I won't have a problem with that.

Don't fix what isn't broken I say. Their previous direction for faces was done well... and now the tech is improved, it'd be even better. DAI faces, with all the better tech, still look like **** compared to a facescanned Jack/Shep/Vega/etc.. There's still a lot of subtlety there that can't be done with sliders (it could if it was a full fledged 3d sculptor, but then that would be tedious as hell).

I agree, I loved Sheploo, he looked better than every Shepard created modded or unmodded. I think the CC Shepards all look fake in comparison to the companions who have face models whereas Sheploo fits right into the setting.  So I do hope they continue the trend of having a face model PC to pick.

I can almost guarantee you they do not do any sort of 'face scan.'

They obtain high quality photographs from different angles and carefully model the face.

Sure. I'll probably never use it now that the the graphics are as advanced as they were in Inquisition, but I don't see much of a downside.

I do hope they develop better presets, though. And much better hair.

The graphics aren't the problem alone. It's the parameters and limitations of a slider.. it'll never match something handcrafted (with their in-hour 3d apps) or based in natural designs. DAI still looks like crap, compared to the faces of BF4 (more custom designs, but same engine).

Also, I would guessing that pretty much every distinctive character in video games has their face modeled off of some real person or another. So the idea of a very distinctive face that a developer 'came up with themselves' probably falls someone what. I'm guessing for serious characters they usually or even always start with a base design from a photograph.

Or made by a professional who makes his living modeling this sort of thing.

I disagree. Outside of hair, I'm delighted with the DAI character creator. I concede that there's arguably better out there, but I don't think any of it is so superior as to make DAI "look like crap."

True.. it's their life's work. Although I don't doubt some players are on their own path to being that good too. Just that their tools are limited by these sliders.

BF4 is a good example though what they can do with the same old method of using real actors in this engine. These two were the main teammates there (real actors). ME: Andromeda could be just as good.

I said in comparison. :P It's not like bad on it's own... just that I know that it can be far superior in this engine (look above).

I wouldn't be surprised if ME:A is better. The ME team has always demonstrated significantly more technical competence than the DA team. Hopefully the trend continues.

Yeah, I hope so. Those BF4 screens are relatively old at this point. But I have no doubt it'll be better looking than DAI at least.

I don't know about the ME trilogy but photogrammetry is increasingly used as a base for faces and props in games and films.

This is why I'm in favor of a system which would let us choose what goes on a head sculpted by pros - such as hair, scars, skin tone etc.

I liked Sheploo. He fitted perfectly with the military settings and story. Femshep was meh. But overall I did liked most of the "face scanned" models, Kaidan, Vega.

Hairstyle that came with Sheploo and color of it? Yup didn't like it(though I guess since he was military that kind of hairstyle was required) but face looking stupid?

I won't be using default, but I don't mind it being there. I just hope they won't use some cool hairstyle or something for protagonist that we can't use for non-default characters. I hated that we couldn't use fem!Hawkes hairstyle.
