While that is true from a logical perspective, that isn't necessary the case as far as gameplay goes.

I mean, look at some of the companions in DAI:

Vivienne, who is a First Enchanter

Iron Bull, the leader of the Bull's Chargers

Cassandra, one of the leaders of the Inquisition, and the de facto head of its inner circle until the Inquisitor is formally named

Varric:  who is the head of his House as well as the owner of a variety of businesses, as well as a writer/publisher.  Oh, and he runs a little spy network on the side

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd rather not see her as a companion, I'm all for a clean cut.  But I don't think being "too important" would be a factor in whether this happens or not.

I was disappointed in how irrelevant Vivienne turned out to be, to either the main plot, just WEWH, or even providing the Inquisition resources like the Loyalist fraternity. From all of the promos, she looked to be as important as Cassandra but fell flat. It seems like she is wasting her abilities and resources adventuring with us when she could be using her position and political power so much better off of the front lines.

And how Cass is dropped from the Inner Circle after Haven. Yeah she's not an advisor but it would have been cool if she still had an active role in the Inquisition leadership.

I LOVED having companions that were successful important people, compared to DA2 where I wanted to smack everyone upside the head. I just wish we would of gotten more of a sense of them having power and resources in their own right. Vivienne especially, they were always telling us but never showing us. In my opinion Vivienne should of had an arc in WEWH regardless of her being recruited or not.

Agreed to Vivienne should have more roles in Inquisition (and no, not a big fan of hers. Adventuring with her feels like going on an outing with mom. Seriously. To me at least) but she was the head of Loyalist, a court magician (or whatever it is called) and first enchanter.

I know her side quest is about showing that she does have a warm heart beneath that icy exterior (as long as you get on her good side), but i think it will help more if her quest is about helping the inquisition directly by pulling some political strings. Show us her political savvy, and help the inquisition gain leverage amongst nobility during it's early-mid stage.
Show. Not tell.
