I was going to say that it is one of the lizard people who secretly run the world, but Former_Fiend beat me to it. Damn you, Fiend, for stealing my ideas before I even have them! How dare you?! HOW DARE YOU

Stupid, feeble attempts at funny aside, my personal guess is that it is one of the Scaled Ones, and the mural is a tease of this new race we will probably get to see (and sword/arrow/dagger/magic in the face) in the next game.

What if they become a fifth playable race?

What if they become companions?

What if they're... *Gulp* romanceable?

Maybe Scaled Ones are what humans were back in the day... before they lost their dragon blood. Feed humans some dragon blood and it starts coming back... The mural just looks like a werewolf though, even if the DAWiki folks seem to be convinced otherwise. But I admit the head is a tad shrunk proportionate to the body like a qunari's, but there aren't any horns on the mural (unlike dragons which do seem to tend to have them).

If a drawing on a rock becomes an LI for DA 4, then I'm gonna flood BW's office with demands to make other characters - including NPCs - to become companions and fully romanceable as well.

Just to name a few:  Varric, Nathaniel Howe, Cole, Sigrun, Lace Harding, Aveline, Knight-Templar Barris, Duncan, Bann Teagan, Gorim, Shianni, Flemeth, the Arishok from DA 2, Sten, Loghain, Gaspard de Chalons, Abelas, Knight-Commander Greagoir, Ser Jory, Mother Gisele, Michel de Chevin, Oghren, Lord Abernache, Samson, Inquisitor Ameridan (in the Fade, warp through time, whatever, don't really care), the whole members of Red Jenny, Arishok Sten, Vivienne, Mark Darrah, Soris, the Nightmare demon, Bianca Davri, the Mother, the Architect, the Lost, the Disciple, Ser Varnell, Mother Petrice, David Gaider, Ser Pounce-a-Lot, the Hawke siblings, Rendon Howe, Herren and Wade, the Blighted werewolf, the guardian at the Gauntlet, Andraste's ashes, Shale, King Cailan, Justice, Envy, Mouse, Seneschal Varel, Bann Esmerelle, the Archdemon (all 5 of them), Genevieve, Bregan, Maric, Janeka, Utha, the Viddasala...

...and many others who shall not be forgotten.

It's the Lizard man allied with Orlais that's been fighting with the Moon men of Tevinter of untold many years.

But if Thedas is similar to the Hollow Earth theory (minus the space ships ... maybe) then they could very well be a race that lives/thrives deep underground

Okay, so, does that, or does that not, look like a mural depicting a Qunari... in the Fade?

I think it's supposed to be a Desire Demon, there's another statue like that in the Hissing Wastes. Still dunno why the devs decided not to include them as actual enemies, but were fine to leave statues of them in the game, albeit in extremely hard to find locations?

Seriously, is it a sexism issue? Just add male Desire Demons, im sure no one, except for the dude bros, would complain.

Seriously, male Desire Demons would be kinda hot...

See.

I think desire demons should constantly shape shift shape as they try to figure out what appeals to the character they are speaking to. Or, if the devs wanted to be really clever, they could have the game read the players other save game files (it's been done in a couple of other games) to see who they picked as love interests and have the desire demon adopt the appropriate gender based on the players past preferences.

The problem is that previous protagonists aren't necessary given similar tastes: how would you interpret a save were the love interests were Morrigan followed by Fenris then Bull; or Alistair, followed by Merrill then Josephine; or Leliana, then Anders then Sera?

If your hero is female, then the desire demon should appear as an attractive guy; if your hero is male, the desire demon should appear as a sexy girl.

However, if your hero flirts mostly with members of the same sex -- the implication being that he or she is gay -- then the game should recognize this and make the desire demon the same sex as your hero.

P.S. If your hero has a pet lizard on whom she showers a disturbing amount of affection, the desire demon should appear as a Scaled One. Oh, yeah. I made the post relevant! lol

Those statues are in the Hissing Wastes too. Oddly enough everything there is supposed to be Dwarven.

I also noticed a statue in the Frostback Basin, above Stone-Bear Hold, that was also in the Fade, the one wearing a cloak that seems to be pointing at something. Very odd, and im not sure what Bioware is alluding to with it. Oh, and I also noticed a few of those deformed statues there too, the ones that look like Edvard Munches, the Scream.

The Fade has many mixed things from Thedas. I was thoroughly looking at it all on my last PT and saw a lot of stuff from all over the other parts of the game. That one in the above pic has a male statue next to it, and that's the archway in the Hissing Wastes. The Andraste statue was at the Temple and we see that floating head one in the Hinterlands on a path to the tower. I think the strangest is the statue of the man holding a bigger version of his head.

Sometimes I think Solas' Veil artifacts are causing it based on their locations.

I saw those statues also as pillars for a bridge in Emprise de leon near the hot springs and also in Exalted Plains. Probably remnants of Ancient Tevinter highway

I completely missed the giant statues in the Fade.  The one on the left appears to be a Venatori/Tevinter ruler on a throne.  The one on the right is a Qunari ruler on a throne.  And this is the domain of the Fear Demon reflecting the greatest fears of Thedas, yes?  Interesting that the two factions that will be at each other's throats in the next game are presented like that.  I think it's DA4 foreshadowing and little else.

They are always together. The horned woman and masked man. In Emprise du Lion, The Hissing Wastes and even the Shattered Library (upside down). As you said and I agree, it might be a hint to DA4. Now that we are SO done with Mages and Templars, it's time for Vints and Qunari!

Isn't any less odd than a Qunari in this game (or much else, for that matter).

Lets just go wild. It doesn't matter. They already jumped the shark.
