I liked how the trailer for Andromeda had a really different kind of music in the intro to the trailer, almost like the crew was listening to their favourite earth music on their long journey.

It would be cool if the game featured licensed music for the crew to keep their connection to home (kind of like IRL Voyager) :D

Kate Bush and the Beatles would be mandatory though, the latter of which could be costly to the budget lol.

(not replacing the amazing ME themes that are undoubtedly going to be in as OST)

I think they should keep any licensed music to a minimum, and if they use real world bands for the soundtrack, to stick to groups that aren't well known and could work as 22nd or 23rd century bands within the game universe.

The first trilogy was set in the 22nd Century, and Andromeda will bet set at some point after. It would be a bit jarring and take me out of the setting if everyone in the 22nd or 23rd Century is listening to Johnny Cash. The only way it could work was if an interest in 200+ year old music was a unique character quirk for the protagonist that his or her companions commented on or poked fun at.

EA has used all kinds of music for their trailers, so I wouldn't expect any Cash to be in the actual game.

There's a reason you don't hear a lot of licensed music in sci-fi and it's probably because no writer is willing to say "this song is going to be a classic," among other reasons. It also brings up the question: where's the last century of music? Why is the radio filled with a combination of the Stones, Hall & Oates (clearly the definitive artists of our generation), and whatever current (probably techno) music there is? What happened in between?

Even if a licensed song fit thematically with both the game and the game's soundtrack, I don't think it could be diegetic. I think BioWare very intentionally kept the Faunts only for the credits.

Kind of don't want licensed music in game mostly as it will cause havoc with copyright strike issues on Youtube for all of those who would create Let's plays. Literally everyone would just get a copyright strike unless they mute the moments in a video capture that has the copyrighted music but then risk missing out.
