I'm not really bothered by the unmasked design either. Sure it was altered stock photo but when asked what people were expecting from her beneath the mask, the answers are always vague at best

IMO no design would have triggered unanimous like, if they gave Tali mandables with jagged teeth or long tenacles for hair and around her face people would still be upset. So I say just stick with what there already and put abit more minor details to it

No matter what people will still complain anyway -_-

There would always have been complaints, but I think the reveal of what the Quarians look like is a big enough deal that it should have been a proper in-game model and not just an image.

Altered stock photos are fine for a lot of things in games, but this particular thing felt like it should have gotten more than that.

I don't actually mind the unmasked design of them.

I had issues with the fact that it was done with a photoshopped stock image rather than being actually modeled in-game, preferably as something for people who romanced Tali.

Same. I actually don't mind even the human look at all. Expecially since Quarians already have three fingers and weird legs. Of course more detail on the non human qualites of the face would be appreciated, like the eyes and the weird lines (I don't know how to call them. My english dictionary is sadly limited.).

Probably a modeled face would be easily made different from a modified photo.

No matter what they put out, people would have had something to say. I understand you can't please everyone. But it's the effort that counts.

Artist 1: So being that this is the 3rd and final game, we should reveal what Tali and from that, the Quarians look like.

Artist 2: Absolutely, I have an idea, she should look 95% human, with some black marking tattos on her face, and white eyes.

Artist 1: Well...that's a little...bland don't you think? Fans have been wondering what they looked like for years, we should be creative.

Artist 2: Well no matter what we come up with, no one will be happy.

Artist 1: While that is true, we should at least try and make something new, unique. We're artists, we have to be creative. We can't please everyone, but we can please most people by atleast trying.

And with the design they went with, there's just no creativity with it. It's just...a person.

This. Heh.

I just hope they develop more skeleton frames than human or human with 3 fingers and dog legs. At least SWTOR adds 1 more. Alien with 3 legs. Used for large bugs or robots.

I always promote peace between the geth and quarians.

I'm good with either.

But If they don't decide to show their face, that's fine. They could do some quick, split sec, slight obstruction scenes (similar to Vader in Empire).

If they do a reveal,
I'd also like a slight redesign. It's uber easy to stay with the very generic "similar in human appearance" statement everyone banters about from the books. But also provide a better and more unique appearance.

Not sure what you're referring to here but, 300 years ago (ME time) the quarians lived on at least 2 worlds and did so without suits.

They meant in game. Not in lore

I would like there design changed a bit since they look to human and feels lazy you can do much better.

Though it is fully within BW's right to change the look of quarians, they have already stated (in one of the books used to fill in lore) that quarian faces are the closest to humans.  Seeing as how the asari are already so very close, about the only thing I can think of to make them look more human than asari is for the quarians to have actual eye brows.

I don't have a link to the actual description but it states that about the only difference between humans and quarians are the ears.  The quarian ears look nothing like humans.  The rest of the face, well, again by using the asari as a reference, must look almost perfectly human.

To be honest, I would not have cared if the quarians were colored hot pink and lime green and looked like aardvarks but, alas, BW already set the base model in their description and will most likely keep that look.  Don't forget, they also set the look in stone in the EC with the unmasked views of quarians as well.

I don't mind the unmasked design itself, so much as how they seemed to arrive at it. We know for a fact that BioWare employs a number of very talented concept artists. We know for a fact that they had, at some point in the development of the series (and most likely at multiple points), conceived of how the Quarians would look under those suits. Despite all of that, they ended up using a doctored photo easily found in Google images. It seemed so lazy and last minute as to be insulting.

Conversely to my opening sentence, I wouldn't mind if they retconned it completely. I believe Quarians are important and interesting enough characters to warrant a carefully considered and unique design.

People cling to much to lore.
Considering a human appearance-2 eyes, 1 nose, 2 ears, 1 mouth, locations etc
There's still quite a lot of room for creativity and revamping the Quarian appearance into something more unique=better

No offense but how is clinging, or abiding, to lore a bad thing?  Lore is the very foundation on which all you see in the ME universe stands upon.  Without lore, chaos reigns and we get 100% space magic.  I prefer to have that base intact, the lore followed, than have a anything goes universe.

Just my take on it of course.

A little bit of refining and they're fine by me. Maybe make the nose flatter(easy way to make a difference), now it's too humanlike.

Agreed.
But either I wasn't clear or my point was missed.
Anytime the suggestion of "tweaking" a quarians appearance pops-up, the first thing out of people's mouths is "lore says this, lore says that."
My point was/is,
There's a ton of room-within lore to tweak the appearance of the quarians.

I'm pretty sure they're not going to show up so BioWare doesn't have to canonise a Rannoch ending. But if they do show up, and we get a squad member, I'd like it if in combat they wear their mask, but on the ship they're maskless. That, and make them more alien based since Tali's photoshop photo looked too similar to a human.

If the journey to Andromeda happens before the Rannoch mission, then the Quarians can be there no problem.

As for lore talking about how the Quarians look the most like humans. Like the Asari, you can make a humanoid face while still being distinctly alien. There's one piece of fanart that does just that.

If they do return then I hope their physical appearence is revised and redone as the photostock image was just not favourable in my opinion.

I'm hoping their suits are merged with Geth tech by the time of Andromeda so quarians can do all the stuff the get could. Quarian hoppers! Quarian Juggernaut! QUARIAN DESTROYER!

Doesn't Tali take her mask off in all of the Rannoch arc conclusions? Seems like the most obvious spot to show a fully rendered unmasked Quarian to me.

It's things like this that made me feel like ME3 was rushed in quite a few areas.

The design was terrible and lazy. There were much better concepts in the Art of the MEU book. Though, I hardly care as they're not one of my favorite species.

Which is odd, since faces aren't a ton of work. It's probably a combo of simply not settling down on her face design quickly enough.. and by the time they did, it was the last minute when they got that stock image. lol. Simply having a generic female face shape there wouldn't be too hard though. They've got tons of templates to work from. All of that work is done. You'd only need to change the texture colors and designs.

I still see the only way of the narrative working is if the expedition left prior to the end of ME3 anyway.   In that case, any Quarians that accompany the expedition are still going to be untouched by any of the events of ME3 and will need their suits.

As far as the face goes...  they can still do a heck of a lot with the design of the Quarians if they want too.   One shoddy over-exposed picture of a face barely showed what she looked like and only a very slim fraction of players probably ever saw it.
