LOL sounds like you never played a Japanese style RPG before then eh? espeically if you don't like long cutscenes and forced companions?

Also you can actualyl kill off your companions or just not allow them to join you. However its silly to hate this game for the reasons you do.

Its like buying Gran Turismo or Forza then stating how much you hate driving sims. You like only arcade style driving. etc etc. It doesn't makes sense!

go play oblivion.. and u can decide what to do yourself the whole day long.

but seriously what did u excpected in a rpg/party based game ? they need forced intro characters to introduce new ppl to the game mechanics. after intro ya can do what ya want.

take it or leave it, but if ya are a active community person ya already know all the **** i tell you, and you know ur whining is pathetic.

Morrowind

That's a sandbox game, not an RPG imo.  The characters are bland, just robotic quest-givers, and does not contain as many features.  In fact, I would argue that it doesn't give you the freedom to do what you want as there just isn't that much to do in it.  Oh, I did love robbing the stores in Daggerfall, but I like Daggerfall alot better anyway, even if that was just a sandbox as well.

Just my opinions of course.

for the record, as soon as you have access to your camp you can ditch the companions (might wanna put it on easy and your still gonna get bum rushed alot) but seriously when will people learn to actually read about a game before they buy it? hell its Bioware the games with out forced companions are the exceptions for them...

It sounds as if you're trying to avoid the game setting itself. Why else do we get games like this, if not to interact with the world?
DAO is designed for multiple characters, over which you have control. Some of them are vital to your quests. Think of them as resources you have to manage.
Seriously, once the Toolset is out, I'm sure there will be single-player adventure mods. Or, create a few yourself.

Ah yes. because your PC is as powerful as he was in BG/BG2 yes? (You know what the PC *IS* in these games I assume?)
You should read the back of the box before you buy a game.
Made up **** follows:

Random Guy:"Sir Grey warden! You have gathered the armies of man. You have powerful companions. You have secured your own power. Now we march into the Blight."
PC:"No thanks. I think I will take a stroll into the blight and handle this nonesense myself."
Random Guy"Ha ha ha ha, Very funny m'lord. Now, here are the battle plans....."
PC:"Forget your battle plans. Didn't you hear me? I am off on a stroll."
RG::"....beg'yer pardon m'Lord?"
PC:" I am going in."
RG:"...by yourself m'lord?"
PC:"Yes."
RG:"....But.... the army is right here m'lord."
PC:"Hogwash. All these bastards need are a good spanking. And I shall delivers it."
RG:"Ah...so...very good m'lord. Would you like some tea before you're off sir?"
PC:"No, no I think I am quite alright thank you. This buisiness must be handled forthwith. I'll be off."
RG:"Very well m'lord. Have a safe stroll."
PC strides of.
RG to PC's party:" What a tosser...Sir ALISTAIR. THIS IS YOUR ARMY NOW."
Alistiar:"Right. let me see those plans. Sten, come lend me some advice. Wynne, handle the support mages. Morigan....."

Some of the first party member yes are forced onto you, but after the first 2 all the others are a choice, you do or you don't. Christ you can even just kill some of them.

As for the story this should not be surprised.

But like the other guy that can't figure out how to use the Tactics screen and has to make 15 post on the subject I will suggest the same thing to you.

Bring the game back, return it and buy something else. If you can't return it then next time do some research before you buy a game.

Good thing you didn't play past the Origin story to the point where you get to choose your companions (or lack thereof).

That might've really pissed you off.

The OP is right in a way. DOA is more like Mass Effect, Jade Emprire then BG and if my memory serves me right Bioware hyped this game as a game that builds on BG, but it seems to me that it builds more like on ME, KOTOR, etc and the only similarity to BG is that both are fantasy an have elves, dwars and dragons:)

The game has complex tactical combat with full party control like in BG. That's something all the other games after it didn't have. Bit by bit Bioware took away control from then on and made the games more action-oriented. DAO is a step back in the right direction after that.

And while those games had good companion interaction and relationships, they are generally confined to the base camp. DAO also has banter and conversations during regular adventuring. Which is more similar to BG2, but goes a lot farther.

You do know you can choose to ignore them all together, or kick them out of your group if you want?

or are you upset it's a party based game, and that you wan't to play solo? There are no forced companions, you can leave them in the camp all game if you want, or tell them to get lost

No good sir I do not think it knows that. Of course if it played past the origin storry (like 2-3 hours in) he might of figured it out.

Ahhhhh I do love living in the age of "GIMMIE GIMMIE NOW!!! instant gratifaction no responsibilty/accountability dip ****s"

Me? I am enjoying the game greatly.

I fail to see how the NWN2 and DA toolsets force you to do things while the NWN toolset does not...

Yes, like NWN2 characters will join your party without your consent. Like NWN2, this happens at the start of the game during what is effectively an intro/tutorial section. Like NWN2 you will later be able to choose to leave them behind. Assuming you didn't give up at the first setback.

If I'm reading the original post right, it sounds like she's upset about the temporary companion that was forced on her in the origin story. If someone wishes to be upset about that, then so be it -- but insofar as the main companions go throughout the rest of the game only two are forced to join your party for plot reasons and even one of those you can dismiss immediately afterwards. The other you can simply leave at camp if you don't wish them about. All other companions are optional.

If even that's too much to bear, then sorry to disappoint.

Oh?  You can't click the Party button and remove people from your party?  Dang.  I've been using that incorrectly all along.

You have choices.  You just have to choose to know how to make them.

1) This was well documented for years before the release

2) You are forced into parties while you are learnign the game... later you can tell everyone to fraq off if you want.
