Ah yes. because your PC is as powerful as he was in BG/BG2 yes? (You know what the PC *IS* in these games I assume?)
You should read the back of the box before you buy a game.
Made up **** follows:

Random Guy:"Sir Grey warden! You have gathered the armies of man. You have powerful companions. You have secured your own power. Now we march into the Blight."
PC:"No thanks. I think I will take a stroll into the blight and handle this nonesense myself."
Random Guy"Ha ha ha ha, Very funny m'lord. Now, here are the battle plans....."
PC:"Forget your battle plans. Didn't you hear me? I am off on a stroll."
RG::"....beg'yer pardon m'Lord?"
PC:" I am going in."
RG:"...by yourself m'lord?"
PC:"Yes."
RG:"....But.... the army is right here m'lord."
PC:"Hogwash. All these bastards need are a good spanking. And I shall delivers it."
RG:"Ah...so...very good m'lord. Would you like some tea before you're off sir?"
PC:"No, no I think I am quite alright thank you. This buisiness must be handled forthwith. I'll be off."
RG:"Very well m'lord. Have a safe stroll."
PC strides of.
RG to PC's party:" What a tosser...Sir ALISTAIR. THIS IS YOUR ARMY NOW."
Alistiar:"Right. let me see those plans. Sten, come lend me some advice. Wynne, handle the support mages. Morigan....."

Brilliant!

I especially loved "...And I shall delivers it"

Throwing this sort of screeching hissy fit (and the game off one's HD) over having a friend/servant/family member assigned to do something with you is just hilarious. It sounds like you didn't even get out of the origin. Next time, do some research maybe?

That said, I am not fond of the mode of forcing party members on the PC, either. There's always at least one person I either want to give the boot, throw into prison, or kill outright (usually the mass-murdering psychopath guy; hello Canderous, Wrex and Black Whirlwind). From what I've heard, this time they thankfully made only one (?) companion mandatory and everyone can be either simply not picked up, booted later or sometimes even killed.

my objection is that the game has a paltry lack of equipment and personalization to that equipment. hello? two types of light armour. both of which look crappy in the "female" version. hey bioware nerdboys who don't get to touch girls ... a female asssasin is probably not going to wear a skirt you dips**ts .... nor is a warrior ... xena was not cool. and all of the light armour is ugly brown? nice. i bet my assassin can sure sneak around dark shadows in ugly brown armour. and you want a long sword, you got it ... you want a short sword, katana, rapier or any other different looking type of sword ... sorry ... you are screwed. NWN was way better than this game at allowing people to customize equipment to fit the personality of a character ... this game sucks when it comes to that ...

*Delisha finishes her third cup of coffee and smiles;
reading the responses to her early morning rant*

“Amazing the assumptions
people make when they haven’t a clue” *chuckle*

Well first of all I’m not really a newbee the RP genre. lol

I began computer RPGing on the Commodore 128 with Pool of
Radiance and The Bards Tale (1,2,3). I created my first RPG programming in 128
BASIC w/ sound. It was a lot of fund at the time. LOL! Since then I’ve played
them all and consider the Wizardry series the best of the lot until BG and NWN.

I began building with NWScript using the NWN2 Toolset,
creating my first NWN 2 module “The Ritual”, which is posted in the NWVault.
When NWN 1.69 was released, however, along with the massive CEP PACK, I eagerly
embraced the Aurora Toolset and have not been disappointed! I now work 2/3
hours as an apprentice builder for a popular PW.

*Glances up at her rant and chuckles*
OK, I guess what I
should have said is that IMHO, the earlier games like Wizardry, BG and NWN 1
are (for Me) a far better gaming experience than the new genre of games like
NWN2 and Dragon Age that are so dependent on “forced companions”. The RP
experience for me has always been about immersion into the game… to be forced
to be with someone you wouldn’t be with destroys the illusion (for Me)… and
again, IMHO, is not necessary for a great story line.

Indeed, I should have been a more informed consumer, but
alas I was looking through the rose colored glasses of hope (with Bioware
hinting a return the BG experience) rather than the clear glasses of reality.
*sighs*

Yet, I am very excited about looking at the underlying
mechanics of Dragon Age, when the Toolset is available.

*Places the Dragon Age disc in her disc drive and hits
install... then clicks on Firefox to see if the Toolset is available
yet*

Finally,
can anyone tell why the default movement rate in RPGs can’t be walk? Why does
everyone have to run and jump around like a bunch of started bunnies? *shakes
her in wonder*

It's a story not so much a sandbox. You want "true" choices or at least the illusion of choice, start your own D&D/ Whatever pen and paper group.

I think the only disapointment I have had with this game is the EA effect, paying for content that should be in the game.  Atleast they did not add in-game adverts like 2142.

Your right they are there. But I blame EA not Bioware on that. If they want to do that they should give the game away and do the asian gaming model and make you buy everything in the game if you want something cool.

Morrowind - Well just don't kill story NPC and your golden...

Actualy, you can still finish it even then.

Vivec has a flawed version of the glove thingy that lets you using Keening and Sunder. The mage that cures the blight disease from you in the reg main quest can fix it for you through a quest. Then its just a matter of finding the weaps and killing the machine monster thingy.

Easiest way to kill Vivec (short of an epic battle) are the super arrows from Bloodmoon. They will one shot him. Though you might need to reload the game a couple times.

As a note, once you get out of the "tutorial" (past the battle of Ostagar), this really doesn't happen anymore. The beginning of the game forces your tutorial party members on you as a method of teaching you about party mechanics and the various classes in the game. Once you get into the main game proper, I believe only Morrigan and Alistair are forced upon you, but you don't have to take them with you (and you can probably ****** them off enough to leave, too). Every other party member you can either not allow in your party, or kick them out at any time (at least of the ones I've found so far).

Ahhh, what successful leadership is about. Putting up with the crappy, ungrateful help to fulfull your own objective. Suck it up princess!! Nothing in life is perfect. Nobody gets what they want when they want and how they want it. I'm glad they put in annoying people in your party. You may even learn some real life people skills.

Comarade we want to you join our party to stop this Capalist Blight that is overtaking the Motherland.

-> Join the Party, for the Motherland.
Join the Party unwilling to save your skin.
Do not join the party and head off to a Gulag in the wilds.
Do not join the party, you will be shot on the spot.

Its a "role" playing game. Either you play the role of your character or dont buy the game.

Image IPBImage IPB  Hello this says it all. You are not going to get total freedom to run where ever. This is out an MMO or Table top RPG, this is a game with a story. A good game at that so sorry you couldn't find what you want. Laters.

Party button, use it, remove party members; I am 18 hours in and only one instance insisted I use another party member, but goodluck, combat is balanced around full parties.

I think creating your own party is good but in doing so, you lose all the interaction of all the individuals of the party with the story. They are only tools, not characters in the game. The character is the party itself as a whole. On the contrary with the characters in DA:O the story is much more inmersive and ever changing because every companion YOU CHOOSE to be in your party reacts totally different to every decision and have their own agendas. It is impossible to have that kind of thing with a customizable party. In my humble opinion this game is incredible at the moment and I haven't found yet a single Bishop-like character.

I'm afraid they have added those in-game adverts. You'll sadly see.
