In the story of Mass Effect 3 and its transition from the story of Mass Effect 2?

What do you think they should have done, if they had one additional game to tell the story?

The question here is about Mass effect 3 and not about Mass effect 2&1, so please leave them out of it.

Well, they could have used Mass Effect 3 for the pre-war, but Shepard would have their hands tied to the Alliance already. I feel like Shepard should not be forced to go back to the Alliance, and I strongly encourage it more if Arrival was ignored or never done. Mass Effect 2 could have been the pre-war, I mean, the Collectors were not actually necessary and the universe would still have made sense without them.

With the amount of stuff put in ME3 and the time that ME3 was in developement, I would've made it 2 games. Make ME3 about building the device and gaining allies with the reapers entering the galaxy towards the end. ME4 would be about fighting the reapers

Perhaps they could have fleshed out the drive by quests and change the mode of acquisition.
