Opportunity Knocks on that First Blood Cheap Shot Sneak Attack man. 

 

Of course assuming anything lives long enough for it to matter.

 

On the off chance that the Reaver, Katari, and Arcane Warrior rolling in your party don't handle it in the first nano-second of seeing something, here's a way for you to not be a leechy little archer.

 

 

1st: Understand what the crap on your bar does.

 

Explosive shot is garbage. Grade A. Its useful as long as you stay below Threatening, but who wants to do that? Once you get up into Perilious and on, things just have way too much health for it to be an effective use of Stamina and Slot space.

 

Caltrops are useful. Eventually. For now, its kinda bad because we don't have any way to take advantage of it.

 

Our Bow sucks. We need a new one or we're about to get carried harder than a no-promo level 1 Zither. Grit your teeth, because there will be some carrying in your future. If you're having to read this then you probably haven't promoted this character even once.

 

2nd: Understand your Role

 

You blow **** up. Close or Far it doesn't matter. A lot of builds you'll ready will have you camp out at the otherside of the room and spam abilities before running away. We're not doing that, Combat Archery -- get in the thick of it.

 

3rd: Understand the Build

 

My Build revolves around Critical Chance, and hitting several times in quick succession, so that means -- a lot of Critical Hits.

 

Opportunity Knocks and Looks Like it Hurt are awesome passives for any rogue, and when combined with something like Leaping Shot -- its a recipe for a butt-load of DPS.

 

Pick up Opportunity Knocks, Looks Like it Hurt, Leaping Shot, and Pincushion. The last 9 points are up to you. 

 

Get in some one's face, drop some Caltrops so they can't flee from the 50 megatons of hurt you're going to drop on on them (and so you can start getting crits), and start abusing that low Cooldown Leaping Shot until you can hear its mother cry.

 

 

You Can now Archer Gud. go kill ****

Explosive shot is the archers thisrd best damage spam, first and second being leaping shot and spike trap.
First build post? Let's bash, it is tradition.
L2P! No jk leaping shot is great but so is ES and caltrops tbh.
ES does amazing damage and it is AOE. Has a short cooldown (doesn't even matter on Archer though.
Caltrops is the same way with cooldown. Upgrade and decent damage but mostly to slow movement speed is fantastic.
I'll end there

Don't get mark of death, especially since it was "buffed" really was a nerf. It is kinda bad now tbh. You will do more damage overall, DPS will increase too, with explosive shot

So its not worth taking even with the 'Mark Chain'? Or do not enough people run Crit to get the CD low enough to chain?

No, if anything don't upgrade it. If you upgrade it you can't set it off manually for the extra damage and 4 seconds isn't enough to even it out tbh

Explosive shot is handy not so much for the damage it does (which is not bad since it has a large aoe radius) but because it knocks down mobs that can be knocked down and will damage shielded enemies. It's tactical utilities are what make it useful.

 

Personally, the build I am liking currently is Leaping shot, Spiketrap, Knockout bomb, and Explosive shot/Marked for death (marked for dragon runs). Spamming spike trap almost non stop is a lot of fun.

While I was getting my 250 completions for archer I ran FC quite a bit and upgraded longshot is great on that map.  There are several spots you can line up mobs and take out several at once.  I would not however try this unless you can be sure you can kill most things in 1 or 2 shots or have a lot of HoK because everything on the map tends to end up being pointed in your direction after a few shots.  

 

For NM runs I normally have leaping shot, explosive shot (melee appreciate when you knockdown the guys with shields), caltrops and spike trap.

Anyone else upset caltrops is useable now? I miss the old days when caltrops was the standard we used for deciding whether an ability could be considered "trash" tier.

Imagine the surprise when all of a sudden, it dinna suck. I think Long Shot took the biggest hit, stoopid animation.

 

Nice to have a starting ability that actually hurts bad guys.

 

IMO, best archer build is definitely Explosive Shot, Caltrops, Leaping Shot and Spike Trap, along with Looks like it Hurt, Opportunity Knocks and Pincushion.

 

Use a heal on hit bow, or some heal on kill, and get yer Spam on.

 

Personally, I go with HS bow, w/54% HoK, CD ring, CC ring, Health Belt and Stamina ammy.

I concur with this build. 

 

Anyone claiming explosive shot is a waste of space is a waste of space.

How is it any worse than prior to the buff if you skipped the upgrade (which was effectively 1 stack of Sunder)?

IIRC it detonated for 150% instead of 100% if you detonated it early with the upgrade, although it wasn't listed in the description

Am I the only one who uses evade with the archer?

 

I mean on routine and threatening everything works, but on perilous and NM I can't play without it (unless you're in a strong party), it's just too good to put some distance and get out of bad situations, leaving a couple of spike traps just in case and looking at the enemies hit your double makes me always smile :) lol

 

BTW isn't it superfun the way spike trap makes them fly in the air ? It kinda looks like they fall on their ass :) lol

 

 

leaping shot, spike trap and evade are a must for me, the third ability is the one I like to rotate, playing with the same build all over again is a little boring, mostly between long shot (great but it's hard to manage aggro), full draw (useless unless you have tezpadam's bane with 150% weapon damage explosion) and explosive shot (what a downer it doesn't knock down qunari defenders...).

I usually go with Hakkon bow/Caltrops/Explosive Shot/spike trap and leaping shot and am more of a close combat archer that is spewing out caltrops and spike bombs while spamming explosive shot and leaping shot beacause they're always off cooldown due to the crit fest.  

 

This is the best build I have found for NM... With the ranged build with LS you spend alot of time setting up shots where as i prefer to be leaping and booming all in their faces.

yeah I agree with you, however your build works on high promotions and gear. In Nm I need to be sure thay can't touch me or they'll kill me in 3 or 4 of hits...

 

Now that I have the HS bow as soon as i get the cotton and bring it to 50% hok I can try that play stile, but now I'll just end up dying too often and relying too much on my party.....

 

As stated a 1000 times in the forum all builds are gear and promot dependant, what works for one, may not work for all.

 

You look at your promots and your gear and based on that you come up with a build.

 

Close quarter archer is for the pros and promotion lords
