I really really hope they include that Johnny Cash song from the trailer in the game at some point.

I doubt they would. It was most likely just music for the trailer. Just like advertisements for films, game trailers often use music that isn't in the product being advertised. Nearly all previous Mass Effect trailers used music that wasn't in the games.

 

I'm also not sure that Johnny Cash would be a good fit for the game. Music from huge artists of the 20th Century would take you out of a setting that is supposed to be in the 23rd Century or possibly later.

 

The only way it could maybe work is if listening to archaic music was character quirk for the protagonist, that other characters commented on or poked fun at.

I'm actually hoping for actual songs from the other species as they always make mention of there music (Garrus' track list in Lair of the Shadowbroker) but we never actually here the songs.

A dev(Mike Gamble?) said the lyrics have some significance to the game but I don't recall anyone saying the game will elaborate on the song choice for the trailer.

Some people do, which gets to my point about it possibly being a character quirk for the protagonist. Some people do listen to Mozart or Bach, but neither of those artists are on Billboard's top 100. While Classical music certainly has its devoted fans, the majority of people only hear it in elevators or hotel lobbies.

 

The majority of people in the 23rd Century should be listening to artists who are current to the age they live in, not the best hits of 1968. I like Jonny Cash, but his music would be out of place in the game other than the protagonist being given a trait of being into archaic music.

No way. My character wants to listen to some AC/DC, Zeppelin, Ozzy and Iron Maiden. If I was to live in whatever year Andromeda takes place, I would be listening to those groups I mentioned and others. I might listen to the music of that time depending how well it sounds

Well it puts your enemies into like a trance when they hear it and the protagonists name is Min May. Your side kicks rick and Lisa take them out while you sing.
