at the very beginning when I first got DA I was set on playing as a male elf warrior.. up until I saw how they actually looked like. I mean they all looked so defenseless and fragile. so throughout the entirety of my play through as a human warrior I couldn't help but think about how cool it would be to play as an elf who actually looked the part of a warrior. But in all seriousness am I the only one who would like to play as an elf that is jacked and looks like a complete and utter bad ass. I just want to know if anyone agrees with me that the the elves or at least or form of the males should be extremely beefed up. and also would anyone like it if there were things such as body and arm tattoos? I just feel as if these two things would improve the player experience greatly and would like to get feedback on your guys's opinions
You're not alone. Common opinion it seems.
I don't think they should be beefed up though... lol. I just wished they didn't look like malnourished children.

Elven companions get a decent character model (Solas, Sera and Fenris) while everyone else looks like crap.
Sera is actually a human body, from what I can tell.
But I think PC female elves are cute. It's less flattering for the males.

I'm fine with them being thin, my problem is that their whole body is too narrow like they're scaled down sideways. They have the shoulder width of a prepubescent child and it makes the male elf's arms get sucked into his body and broken >_<. The other weird thing is that they gave the male elf developed pecs but no muscles anywhere else so it looks like he has breasts and the female elf's breasts are way too big for how thin her body is. Just weird all around.

Agreed, anorexic elves should be gone. Just make em' athletic and shorter like origins.

Elves by natural are not stout folk like the Durgen'len or slow and clumsy like a Shemlen. They are not very tall but, they are a very nimble and quick folk.
If a elf and shem have a child the child will lose all of its elven features..This is why such joinings are frown on by the keepers and Hahren. Sera is a elf since she retains her elven features.

True, but it'd help if more of the male adults who plays these games related to them. Most guys don't want to play sickly children.
It's even funnier since they include romance in this series.

There's a body model replacer on the Nexus for those on PC. Fixes the male elf issues.

It's more that they look weak and sickly than that they are slim. Bruce Lee was very lean, but no-one would ever think he was weak or lacking in masculinity.
OTOH, maybe making them physically frail is an intentional decision by Bioware to reinforce how much the elves depended on magic for their power and why their civilisation collapsed once the Veil was created and their ready access to it was severed.

Yeah, nothing against lean. I consider myself that. Just that in my 30s now... while the elf looks like I did when I was a kid.
To be fair, I wouldn't care to play ridiculous brawny characters either (not a fan of the male Qunari design).

I like the Qunari body for males. The elf is fine as a mage but, as a warrior, they need more bulk and, more definition but not bulk as a rogue. Both are physical, muscle building roles so, even if the elf starts scrawny, he should build muscle as the game progresses as a warrior or rogue.

With that purple coat in your avatar, it fits my image of the Qunari perfectly: Grape Ape.
Not sure which one I think is more stupid though. *scratches head*

Yep - and beautiful as well.
It's not like it's a new thing either for BioWare - the Dalish in DAO didn't look so scrawny as I recall.

Straykat,I'm a older gamer and I prefer a Elf over a Shemlen or Durgen'lin and my pc Elf will romance a Shem but, not a Dwarf.
For the record I have used a Shem and romanced a elf. After all female Elves are cute--even Sera well,in her own way.. ![]()

It always amuses me when Dorian calls my male elf "strapping". I can only think he means in comparison with other elves. Of the many different adjectives I could use to describe a male elf, strapping is not one of them.
There is nothing wrong with being slim; it is the lack of muscle definition that is disappointing. Whilst I can partly understand if for a mage, it just seems wrong for the other classes. An archer ought to have greater upper body strength and definition for their size than even a warrior. Mind you, now we have different casual clothes, the male elf doesn't look as bad as they did in the beige suit.
At least they lost the weird giraffe neck and odd facial features we had in DA2. If nothing else my elves, both male and female, facially really do look beautiful, which dialogue and codices have always claimed they are meant to, and distinctive in appearance from the humans around them without looking totally alien.

Make male elves a bit beefier, maybe? Like Solas.

As far as I can tell, it's a specific problem with a few of the armor models... with the arms mostly. They get way too skinny and bowed inwards. But the starting armor, for instance, doesn't do that to the arms. Also some of the newer armors seem to "fill in" the elven male arms... for example the Inquisitor armor from Jaws of Hakkon. I just avoid those armors that butcher the arms.
They really should fix those armors.

It is not his model, outfits share models so when you equip "one piece" armors the model is the same for Solas or the Player. A character "true model" is seen in haven/skyhold and their default armors, meaning those with upgrades.

Yep, the models and rigging are horrible. Bioware should just stop trying to make them look unique and different and just go with the DAO approach; even if it is fairly generic, at least it's not blatantly bad.
I'd be happy if they backtracked a little with their dwarves and qunari too. Bad things can happen if you try to change your art each game instead of sticking with something.

I blame the outfit.
Indeed, outfits change characters' body types all the time. It's weird and annoying.
