How feasible is a siege dragon? (or other armored creatures?)

Imagine this:

Your forces surround an enemy keep. Their walls are high, their towers are strong, and their gates are legendary as impenetrable. The enemy ramparts are silhouetted by the setting sun. Morale inside is high. You halt your army, stop your marching drum. Silence falls across the battlefield, thick with expectation. They expect you to bring out catapults, battering rams, and they ready their bows.

From behind you, there is an ear-shattering roar.

Your High Dragon, hatched and hand-reared for years by your family, slams her wings through the air. The setting sun glints red off her plate armor.

Does she have a metal crushing ball affixed to her tail? Does she carry forces to deploy inside? Does she lift netting filled with explosive vials? Is there a custom saddle mounted with a ballista regiment?

Or do you have a dragon at all, but instead a giant trained and outfitted by your beast handlers?

Armored mabari legions? Flocks of birds trained to drop potions? Wyverns with runes in their collars? BEARS YOU'VE FED DRAGON BLOOD?

TL;DR: If you could have a siege beast what would it be, how would you use it, and how would you manage training and upkeep?

This is an awesome topic  :wizard:

Giants, I think.  Giants with enchanted spiked clubs and a bit more armor.  And maybe some Tempest potion for good measure because lightning giant  They seem a bit slower and dimmer than the dragons, so you'd have to point them very carefully at the thing you want them to smash, but IMO they're less likely to get out of hand than a High Dragon.

Also I really, really wanted a Leopold  :(

Griffins... they're coming back to Thedas. And that would be my siege beast, with me on it.

Ogres.

Honestly, I don't know why the Grey Wardens haven't already come up with a way to control darkspawn packs. It seems like taint manipulation could do the trick, and being able to turn darkspawn against each other would be majorly effective.

It would indeed be effective to turn darkspawn against each other, and Ogres would make amazing shock troops. I think the big roadblock for that sort of thing is finding a way to combat the Calling for darkspawn's attention without loosing their free will to wreck havoc. It seems like it involves sketchy blood magic experimentation, which we all know is a big no-no in Thedas, even in Tevinter.

It would also make the Qunari really mad to use ogres

Lightning Giants would be so cool.  I can definitely see them being easier to train and handle than dragons. :3

Architect might be the solution for that, also if he can heal Grey Wardens I can even see a faction who sides him along the disciples.

That would be literally legendary. There would be legends told about it.

Do we have any idea where she is? I just want to see her 0-0

The last time we saw her she was pissed for not being able to crush the traitor who killed her friend, though, maybe they are bound and they became one?

Guns that shoot dragons and dragons with lasers oh wow

These are game breaking technologies

I don't think Thedas is ready. They couldn't handle it.

I really hope so, she was too cool to die of a lame gut stab.

Oh, if only the next game let us have adventures in the wild swamps of Antiva

I wonder... Why there are giant spiders but not giant scorpions? ......Those things always supply something good to the skirmishes.

They don't fight, but yes she indeed takes over the mind of at least one if I remember right. To locate where his buddies were springing up from by making him lead them to the deep roads entrance to blow it up and collapse it.

Hmm- probably because most of the DA environments have been wet alpine or forest or plain, where spiders are found in abundance but scorpions not so much. Of course, now we have the hissing wastes.

Can you imagine trudging along through the sand dunes, only for a scorpion to unbury itself from the sand and strike with a tail that can pierce steel?

Next mount: ironclad battle scorpion.  Make it so, BioWare.

That's what the Hissing Wastes needed. Giant, man-eating, armor piercing, poisonous scorpions!
