Omni blades...
I would like to point out that physical knives are already in the games and technically have been longer than omni-blades. We just don't see one get used until the Rannoch arc if you side with the Quarians.
Also, it's been a while since I've played, but doesn't the omni-blade make a charging sound when you use it? If nothing else the glow of an omni-tool makes it ill suited for stealth kills without the benefit of a cloak.
Well i never side with quarians, my excuse for not being aware of a lazy script.
Kasumi had shadow strike and was perfectly fine executing enemies with her omni tool gauntlet thing.
Why use a knife when you have a carnifex with a suppressor on it? We are arguing about how a katana with a fire effect can make sense and you want to bring in another absurd out dated weapon in a game with space cruisers. I'm sorry but knives are a no no. I don't care how you think it would look cool. Go play phantom pain if you want to stealth kill so badly or play N7 shadow, at least shadow seems effective considering her katana is heated. A CS Go knife? Nah

...Which is precisely the point I originally made.

Knives don't run out of ammo, for starters.
Also if we're arguing realism, suppressors/silencers in video games tend to be horribly unrealistic in terms of how much they suppress the noise.
And I've been arguing in favor of the Shadow's powers to be included in single player for most of this thread, if you haven't noticed.
I think the opposition to knives has more to do with them being the most banal of all melee weapons. I mean, people use them to spread butter, for chrissakes'. It's like how cows kill more people per year than sharks, yet being suspended above the cow pit sounds more hilarious than terrifying.
I feel like someone once said " if you want a fast paced cover shooter, just play Gears of War." And well... here we are. Lol. Also, N7 Shadow is solely multiplayer. Some of us may be sole single player gamers. *raises handWell i never side with quarians, my excuse for not being aware of a lazy script.

I actually feel that using a combat knife makes more sense than a omni-blade, an omni-blade should not be able to stab or slash anything considering how thin it is. It will simply shatter at the slightest pressure from the side.
A Sword on the other hand is not a secondary backup weapon, too large and cumbersome for that.
Thank you for that cow-pit visual...lol

This isn't that much of a problem when the blade have to exist only for a single strike. In fact, it may be designed to shatter upon impact - having shards of silicon-carbide stuck inside your wound can't be good for your health.

That's the thing, it will shatter even as you try to stab through armor.

That, or it will slice through the armor easily. It all depends on the shear resistance of the armor and the various physical properties of the blade, all of which are unknown to us. The depiction in the game points towards the latter, but as we established earlier, the games are notoriously unrealistic.

Because a Mass Effect shield will stop the Carnifex bullet because of its velocity but it wont stop the knife.
If they come up with some cool, innovative powers they can just make up some technobabble to justify it.
Vanguard charge is silly but adding it to the game was a masterstroke.
They should dedicate a class to Chris Redfield, every time you level up, your character's arms get bigger

It's fine if you play singleplayer only, i understand, i guess i'm more tolerant of pugs who shoot walls thinking its an enemy.

Kinetic barriers stop a carnifex bullet right? why wouldn't it stop a knife? You need to swing that knife inorder to kill anything with it. But the kinetic barriers stop it.

Do you not know what an omni blade is? It's heated matter, The orange glow is not decor. Christ sakes. Somehow people prefer generic knifes over instantly fabricated weapons super heated to pierce through metal.

It is established in the lore that the shields only stop fast-moving objects, like bullets. But it's also established in the lore than the armor worn in ME is designed to protect against bullets that are fired with the force of an atomic bomb.

I feel like we should drop this knife discussion because it really is turning into "who loses their sanity first"
I think shadows powers are fine. The lack of omni katanas is what bothers me.
Knifes will only be useful against fleshy enemies AKA reaper husks and maybe cannibals, Considering that reapers don't have command posts to infiltrate and killing a marauder with a shiv is utterly useless because it will most likely have alerted the other enemies of your presence before it collapses, *marauders can transmit info at light speed*
And the knife is easily trumped by the omni blade since it is more reliable, powerful, and longer.
A knife will never work against a geth let alone a cerberus baddie. *i'm calling out your bullshit tali*
Their hard shells/armor is too advanced to tremble upon a simple kitchen knife.

Sure, if you're trying to jab them straight through the chest plate or something, but I doubt the flexible material around the neck could really protect them from a jugular stab. But it doesn't matter, because neck snap beats rock beats scissors beats paper.
ME3MP's N7 units are really silly looking and vastly overpowered. I would prefer toning down the default classes with slightly less power spamming, a little more gun play, also having to use some tactics and the provided environments more.

That's generally not true. The exact quote is:
Accelerator design was revolutionized by element zero. A slug lightened by a mass effect field can be accelerated to greater speeds, permitting projectile velocities that were previously unattainable. If accelerated to a high enough velocity, a simple paint chip can impact with the same destructive force as a nuclear weapon. However, mass accelerators produce recoil equal to their impact energy. This is mitigated somewhat by the mass effect fields that rounds are suspended within, but weapon recoil is still the prime limiting factor on slug velocity.
Note how that part switches to "paint chip" from "slug," and the next section is about the recoil limiting projectile velocity. The nuclear paintchip is a theoretical example, in a "if an ant would be human-sized" way, not an everyday occurrence.
