Way of the Assassin impossible?

I need 3 assassin weapons for this quest. I have 2/3. The final one seems to be impossible to acquire.

I've repeatedly (like 5 times each) checked the three locations in Crestwood, but there's never any enemies there. I've tried the Valammar dwarf assassins, but none of them dropped the item. Then I tried the White Claw Raiders in the Western Approach. I progressed Frederick's quest all the way to the traps part, got the White Claw Raiders attack, but again nothing.

Right now, it seems to be impossible to choose the specialisation I want. Is there any fix for this?

Not that I could find, I just ended up going with tempest.

I think the problem stems from visiting Crestwood before you do the Way of the Assassin, I didn't want to reload hours back in order to make it the first thing I did when I got there.

I know that the Lyrium Lurker in Hafter's Woods can also drop them. If you're playing on PC you could also use Cheat Engine...

Thanks, but damn. I do love this game, but it's very hard to love sometimes. Would've thought they could have fixed something so obvious and important after almost a year...

All three are available  in Crestwood, I've had them on each of my 3 PTs (the last one is currently in progress)

I don't have the map screens, but the locations are

- the mining site not far from the dragon (to the right if you're facing her)

- house by the Old Crestwood (up on the hill, moving towards the first camping site)

- fisher's house by the lake (upper-middle-right area of the map)

Also note, that I've always had the latter two AFTER I've closed the rift in a lake. It might matter.

Like I said in the OP, I've been to all three locations many, many times. I have the map with them marked. I've reloaded, fast travelled away (on and off map), circled each area, tried before and after closing the rift, and simply waited around for them to show up. None of it worked. That's why I went to Valammar and then the Western Approach - because the 3rd Crestwood drop wasn't happening. So, they may have been there in your game, but they're definitely not in mine.

I can't comment on the assassin weapons - I found all of them by accident - but the tempest components escaped me. I've played a complete playthrough without finding even one of those. Where am I supposed to get them?

The wiki has a good guide. There are also maps, such as this:

On the whole I hope the next games specs don't require trooping around collecting components. Both to avoid such bugs and because its not really a very interesting way of gaining them in the first place.

Either just learn it right away by talking to the trainer or put some time into making the quest interesting.

That explains it. I always do the Storm Coast before getting to Skyhold, and I come back only very much later, after Iron Bull's quest has been activated. At that time, I also tend to be a little sloppy about picking up loot. Meanwhile, both the assassin weapons and the alpha quillback feathers can be found on maps I explore anyway soon after arriving at Skyhold.

Bad luck then. :(

I had no issues with those on any of my 3 PTs. Wish I could help. Hopefully there's some fix for that.

Weird thing to try: go to the lake location in Crestwood and ping for loot. Sometimes the enemy group wanders into the water and drowns itself before you arrive, but the loot will still be there, somewhere in or near the water.

If that doesn't work, White Claws, the Carta guys in the Hinterlands, and some other dagger rogues do drop the item. They drop it pretty infrequently, so keep trying if you don't get it at first.

I think these things drop so randomly.  In my current game as a mage (surprise surprise)  I had all the Nevarran Skulls and Wisp Essences before I even made it to Skyhold. BUT I wanted to rift mage since I have never done that.  I got one stupid Venatori tome to drop from Dorian's one less Venatori quest in from the group in the Hinterlands but I had to troll the Exalted Plains for the other two.  I was hoping to not have to go to the Exalted Plains to get them (I hate the EP).  What is funny is that as a mage I've gotten all kinds of Assassin Weapons and Infusion Primers to drop as random loot in this current game.

It's almost as if the game knows the spec you're going for and then smacks you. I was drowning in infusion primers, broken philters and nevarran skulls, but wisps? Nope...

I had 4 when turning in the recie in my latest playthrough. The Assassins that will randomly spawn in the lower left corner of the hinterlands will also drop them on occasion, that's where I got my first one.

Thanks for the advice and sympathy. I've given up on the stupid Way of the (Missing) Assassin, and am now going to become a Tempest. Never done it before - is it good?

I can't speak to it as an archer since I don't archer, but I did it as a DW once.  It was fun.  But then again I'm easily amused.  Not as fun as DW assassin, IMHO, tho.

Really? I pick up assassin weapons all the time no matter where I am. I have dozens of them in my inventory.

Which location are you missing one for?   Strange thing is that my latest run it took me ages to get the 3rd weapon in Crestwood too, when previously I had had no trouble.    I ran into the first guy up near that smelly hut on the way to sealing the rift in the lake.    I found the second one easily enough down in the dragon area but it was the 3rd location which eluded me.    Having circled round and round I don't know how many times, suddenly I came across the hut by the lake and there they were.     Previously I hadn't had to go there to find them but it had been dropped elsewhere (so that must have been a random one).  Or they must have seen me before I saw them so they had already left the hut behind.    It was definitely a location that you have to look for because it isn't there at the beginning and it is quite easy to miss.
