Probably could lift it at least. Other than that, not much else. :D

Not sure the difference in size with Fenris in DA2, but I found him believable enough then. Here the male elves look lke me when I was 10, except with an adult-like head.

They have wiry strength.  And everyone in Thedas spends time at the gym.  Put them in an Antaam-saar, and see.  I honestly don't know when my Lavellan had time to get ripped abs like that.

If you're looking for an in-universe explanation (rather than a Doylian "Fans would scream if we race-restricted weapons") then how about the Mark?  Lyrium and red lyrium makes Templars physically stronger, arcane-warriors and knight-enchanters use magic to boost their physical strength, so you can use magic to boost strength.  It's not unimaginable that the inquisitor could be channelling physical strength through their mark.

They were still supposed to be Hunters before that.. and as a Dalish warrior specifically, probably carried on the martial skills of the Emerald Knights. They shouldn't need an entirely new magic mark to be competent.

It's just purely a bad choice on the artists' parts. Not a lore reason.

Well most of the two-handed weapons are stupid big for anyone, but the male elf inquisitor body model leaves much to be desired, both Solas and Fenris have better ones. I hope they up their body model game for DA4.

The claymore is typically what is considered the 'Great Sword'.    It weighed about 5.5 lbs.   Yep... less than a gallon of milk.    So let's just say that the scale of weapons in games are more than a little exaggerated.

I been playing RPGs since FF1 was release and it still bugs that the weapons is way to big.

Ever notice how a long bow or long sword is almost dragging the ground?

You're falling for the greatswords are super heavy movie/videogame myth. Read this for historical accuracy. Making greatswords heavy and slow in video games is a gameplay balancing contrivance, not a representation of how they were actually wielded.

Still doesn't help the male elf appearance... which is the OP's real point. I think?

If his complaint was that elves are ridiculously proportioned and the models are poorly rigged, he should have said so. If he had, I'd heartily agree, but coming at it from a false premise does nothing to advance his argument.

I don't think it's an argument exactly...

Uh... I think. I'll let him speak for himself. Just seemed like a snarky way to state another point.

They could lift greatswords in Origins, as weird as it was to watch.

I agree and have said so in a "what's your favorite weapon" post.  Two handed weapons in Dragon Age: Inquisition are ridiculously proportioned.  But from practical experience, it's the weapon, not the elf size or build.

But it's a fantasy game and that means one gets to accept a certain amount of unrealistic content.

The Iron Bull wouldn't realistically be able to use some of those greatswords/greataxes in battle. Pretty sure none of the races would be able to do a backflip 5 feet into the air and somehow shoot 200 arrows from one bow at once. It's not supposed to be realistic.

Why would you even use a greatsword in non-formation combat? They were designed to break apart spear formations, then be discarded for ACTUAL weapons.

True.

But they're also sexy. That's why it's common in fantasy. I can't knock it.

Good point.  I think it's the same kind of liberties taken as pairing one-handed sword and shield with plate armor.

Chimpanzees are four times as strong as humans, pound for pound, are smaller, and can kick the crap out of humans.

TL:DR (can I do that for one sentence??):  Size isn't everything!  That's not what she said...

The four times thing is outdated apparently. They say two times now.

"They". I'm lazy. Sorry for not bothering linking studies atm. ;)

Either way, their musculature is still apparent and very dense. Elves don't have that resemblance.

I wasn't trying to draw an exact comparison between elves and chimps, though.  I was just pointing out that just because they -look- skinny and weaker compared to humans doesn't mean that they are, in fact, weaker (though obviously they are skinnier) than humans.

In fact, I rather like that they don't just look like slightly reduced in size humans.

We're really having this conversation when well... Fenris??? Great swords weren't any smaller from what I remember in DA2. Yet there he was, kicking ass and taking names.
