I wasn't trying to draw an exact comparison between elves and chimps, though.  I was just pointing out that just because they -look- skinny and weaker compared to humans doesn't mean that they are, in fact, weaker (though obviously they are skinnier) than humans.

In fact, I rather like that they don't just look like slightly reduced in size humans.

Fair enough... But chimps don't look that small anyways. Their arms are pretty muscular. Better built than many guys.

I don't think elves need to look like humans either, but I expect something more adult like at least. I looked like that when I was 10.

We're really having this conversation when well... Fenris??? Great swords weren't any smaller from what I remember in DA2. Yet there he was, kicking ass and taking names.

Fenris has lyrium powers of unspecified potential. His ability to swing a two hander like a toothpick can easily be explained by "a wizard did it". ;)

Gamewise, it's kind of a weird combo of like.... Reaver and Templar powers. So yeah.

So we're going with Lyrium as Ezo? :) His aura affects the mass of his weapons, making them easier to swing... But would it change the damage?

His damage is boosted like a Reaver... the more pain, the harder he hits. And he gets a speed boost everytime he kills something.

I'm okay with the swords, but the mauls.  Come on. They seem ridic to me.

Yeah, I hate the over sized warhammer head thing.

I just never had a thing for crushing damage. Nasty!

There's beauty in chopping off a limb though.

He is also unusually... how did Isabela put it? Lanky for an elf.

If his complaint was that elves are ridiculously proportioned and the models are poorly rigged, he should have said so. If he had, I'd heartily agree, but coming at it from a false premise does nothing to advance his argument.

that was my complaint, but i was providing an example to show sort of how silly it is, that's all.

"Elven mages can lift great swords with one hand." That bloody sword should have completely dislocated my elven shoulders, I prefer to hold a staff not steel :P.

Why would you even use a greatsword in non-formation combat? They were designed to break apart spear formations, then be discarded for ACTUAL weapons.

I'm sure it was because fans like huge weapons.

Talk about things that don't make sense isn't Iron Bull's head a bit too small for his body? The DA2 Qunari seemed to be more balanced proportionally.

Have you seen the sizes of greatswords and axes in the game? Neither of those would be qualified as "cutting" or "slashing" weapons in erality. They are so big and so thick, that they would practically have the same effect as a maul.

Well.. Technically heads only grow so large. So if you got an overdeveloped "muscle gene" (the actual name of which escapes me), and a "small head" gene (of dubious existence), then you are just **** outta luck.

The one-handed weapons are usually of reasonable sizes, albeit the ''daggers'' would often be better qualified as shortswords.

The two-handers in this game, with some exceptions, are comically oversized, that is true. The hammers are especially bad, you're swinging about what must be 30 pounds of steel at the end of a big pole, even someone with Iron Bull's build would have a hard time, let alone an elf or a Cassandra. Some of the swords are borderline, like the Serrated Blade and the Greatsword of the Dragon, but others are just way too big.

It especially clashes with the armors, which are usually fairly realistic (if somewhat longcoat-heavy). So it's not like in World of Warcraft where everything is oversized with absurdly massive swords (just look at this! http://www.wowhead.c...rno#screenshots) and giant pauldrons. In Dragon Age most armors are reasonable, most one-handers are reasonable, but the two-handers look too big.

Also yes, I'd rather have elves look like Solas, Abelas ans Sera. The lanky build just makes the males look like malnourished humans. The females are well proportioned, however.

Also evidence of them being used as 'area denial' for instance holding doorways, they also work against armour, which one handed swords are very bad at, but yes a polax or warhammer is a more likely 2h anti-man at arms weapon.

The weapons like the armour in game are unrealistic, I really hope they improve the armour and weapons for DA4 and also the body proportions of elven males, they just look so fugly to me. At least give them shoulders wider than their heads!. They look like olives on a tooth-pick.

If they can draw a longbow, (which they can), they are strong enough to lift a greatsword.

First, I'd like to say that you're absolutely right about the spear and pike formations.  And then I'd like to share that this weekend I learned about renaissance sword master George Silver, who has left manuscript advising greatsword techniques for mounted combat when engaging another (or other) mounted opponent(s).  It's not really relevant for Dragon Age, since we don't get to fight from horse/hart/halla/whatever back, but there's an answer to your question and an affirmation of your statement.

Also, for visuals - HEMA greatsword technique clip:

@Lindrean  That clip you put up kind of slants the conversation a little and makes the OP appear right about great swords and little elves.  You and I both know a petite body can be wicked with a 2h long sword tho.  Represent woman!
