Good question. One I would like to hear an answer to, as well. This guy spent ME2 hounding us and harassing us and talking all high and mighty and yet it barely exists at all within ME3. Disappointing.

He got reduced to a small cameo like the ME2 characters.
I like Harbinger. Too bad he couldn't talk smack to my Shepard throughout ME3. It would've been interesting if instead of having the crucible to stop the reapers, it was finding a way to destroy Harbinger that would cause the reapers to stop the harvest.

Harbinger was busy wrecking the Earth. He had a lot of pent up issues with humans thanks to shepard.
Though I do think it is suppose to be him that drops down at the last minute blasting you just when you think you are reached the beam.

They went from horror monsters to...life preserving pawns. Can't have a trash talking villain bent on your personal destruction because you fucked with him, if what they do is preserve life.

Overall, the Reapers themselves were reduced to brainless machines, or, even worse, some kind of natural phenomena (even the Catalyst compared them to "fire").
One more reason why everybody hated the "ending."

In ME3, Harbinger was removed from the post of main antagonist and replaced with Kai leng and TIM.

I wouldn't say brainless machines. But there was an issue if you had to face them frequently. The ones that are killed in ME3 are not true reapers. The true reapers are the several kilometer long ones like Harbinger. EDI even calls the reaper killed on Tuchunka one of the small ones.
Issue with going toe to toe with to many reapers and winning results in them not being looked at as a threat anymore. Much like the Borg in Star Trek. In TNG they are a large threat with them only barely being defeated. But because they are shown so infrequently they are still viewed as a threat. Then I want to say Voyager started to encounter them a lot more. Beating them at every turn to the point they lost their threaten feeling.
I also wouldn't say Cerberus was the main antagonist. There is only about 3 missions were they are major players. Thessia, Sanctuary, and Cerberus base. And even then Thessia is only at the end and Sanctuary is more explaining what they have been up to while you are building alliances.

They were on Mars, Sur'Kesh and Citadel coup. That's not counting the Turian bomb mission and the N7 side missions since they don't have to be completed to get to the ending. They're also in the Omega dlc and From Ashes dlc

And you could have copy pasted the reapers in any of those set ups and wouldn't change anything. Well maybe Mars mission but only because it was the set up to show how they were aiming to control the reapers. Ending on Thessia, Santuaray and Cerberus base are the only time you couldn't simply copy paste Reapers into the exact same situation and have nothing major changed.

What explanation would you give for the reapers being on Sur'Kesh? The citadel coup?

They had already started assault on all other species home worlds. Pulling a Tuchunka/Rannoch throwing only a few reaper forces towards it simply to occupy the Salarians while they concentrated on Turians and Humans who were getting the brunt of the attack at that time. As well as reducing any help the Asari would be able to gain from other races.
Attacking the Citadal because that is and has always been the key to the war both for the people of the galaxy and the reapers. The data stored on the cit would give reapers that massive advantage in the harvest. As well as panic the people of the galaxy into making rash choices that would play right into their hands.

I would've had Cerberus send bad information to the salarians. Instead of fighting Cerberus, Shepard is fighting the salarians, not all of them, because of bad information

If there are reaper ground forces on the Citadel that means the reaper themselves would be in the area and most likely would destroy any ship entering the area. They destroy the Normandy. Reapers win. I can go for that.

He's got a whole galaxy off people to harass and yell at - the man's got a lot to say and now he gets a nice big audience to rant in front of.
I really didn't mind his absence at all, and I'll admit I'm biased because imo he was a poor man's Sovereign. Same condescending talk, just less eloquent and more of it. Anyway, it makes sense that you wouldn't see him, the galaxy's huge and he doesn't really have any cause to track Shepard down personally.

He was on Earth leading the harvesting. It's too bad he had a reduced role in ME 3 I always liked him. I have always blamed the bsn and it's complaining about him in ME 2 for his reduced role in ME 3.

If I joined the BSN at that time, I would've supported Harbinger. I liked that he talked smack to my Shepard.

Likewise. I always loved Harbinger in ME2. I was so amped up to blow him into pieces.

Oh, he was out there, we just had bigger concerns, like Cerberus... ![]()
