Fallout 3 was better balanced than NV.

That being said, the balance in Skyrim completed sucked.

It's Bethesda. Name me any of their recent games where you can not be a god because they can't balance anything.

While you CAN get OP NV, that only starts to happen with the dlc because of the new perks, weapons and implants. It's a far cry from FO3 where you can max all your stats with little to no effort along with getting a perk every level, stuff like the grim reaper perk or the fact there is a perk that makes all your SPECIAL 9, which by then getting the bobbleheads, you can have max SPECIALS. This is a common issue with Bethesda games at their core.

Agreed, but is getting OP really a problem in a Bethesda game? In my experience the combat in their games is kinda dull anyway, so I want to get OP and blow through it.

One does not get Bethesda games for the game. One gets Bethesda games to play the games the modders design for that world :D

Seriously.

The leveling systems in pretty much every Bethesda game have basically annoyed me. I regard Skyrim's as the best, partially because it's the least obtrusive, but mostly because some of the perk overhauls that modders have created are just incredible and turn it into a new game.

Depends. It doesn't last for very long, but some of my favorite Fallout moments are trying to scavenge for resources. I wish they'd be a bit better about keeping that feeling of desperation around for the entire experience.

Would like them to incorporate hardcore mode at least.. but I don't know if they'll borrow anything from NV.

Who knows how many lines of dialogue Mass Effect Andromeda has yet.

Becoming OP kind of comes along with most rpgs these days doesn't it? Not sure why that's solely on Bethesda.

Always been a Bioware problem too... at about that level 16 mark. Whether they borrowed D&D rules or not.

But not in the same God mode openended class sort of way.

QFT, Bethesda sometimes seems to be cowboy builders in their game design... oh sure, it might look alright at first glance, but you'll probably end up requiring someone else to come in and get everything working the way it should do.

(I still love their games, but they should try not to make it a habit to rely on modders to pick up their slack when it comes to bug-fixes)

Hopefully the team that did Lone Wandered edition for FO3 will get together for FO4 in the future. They made FO3 very fun, complex and on par with NV in terms of gameplay.

That and the Project Nevada and FOOK teams.

Those are my three favourite mods throughout FO3 and NV. The latter mostly for the gungasms. Soo many high-res guns!

No, that would be against the site rules. Offtopic threads belong into Offtopic after all.

We just got on a tangent, is all.

Bethesda says they put in the 1000 most common names for boys and the 1000 most common names for girls into Fallout 4.

A great way to exclude everyone who doesn't happen to be part of the culture they're picking the names from. Seems silly to me.

Characters say Shepard quite a lot. Still, I'd like to think that maybe this would work. Perhaps it won't. If not then too bad, but I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic.

As for the second comment, who knows. If there's something with potential for people to get mad at, they probably will. Though the notion of "white" names is kind of funny. "Tyrone" is largely considered a "black" name, yet it originates from Northern Ireland. I don't suppose we'll be getting any of the stereotypical hood names though, like Laquisha or Darellion.

Well, I'm sure we won't be seeing names from e.g. Eastern Europe or South East Asian in any capacity. As much as people want to make it a race thing its really more of a culture thing.

Part of my family is SE Asian. Even I don't want some of those names. It's a mouthful.

Well, you can always name yourself Mr. F*ckface (no, really!).

But yeah, recording an assorted number of names isn't going to cut it. It's a nice gimmick for those who got lucky with their picks and there's always going to be special snowflakes you're going to rustle their Vault-Tec™ jumpsuit jimmies because their name isn't part of it and "OPPRESSION BY THE WHITE OVERLORDS!!!" ("male" optional), but eh, gimmick is gimmick.

I'm just going to look for a list for all the ridiculous names and have my fun with that

Most of the people whining about things like that are white [westerners] themselves. Trying to speak for everyone else.

They can **** off. /notyourshield ;)

Now we're really off topic.

Amount of dialogue doesn't mean much with regards to the quality of the narrative. Ico has very little dialogue (if any) and still manages to tell a better story than any Bethesda game (or Bioware for that matter,) Shadow of the Collossus too.

Quality > Quantity.

This is Bethesda. Among all the major RPG developers, their writing is the worst by a wide margin. Even indies such as Larian have better writing and scenarios.

Quantity means absolutely nothing.

EDIT: as for gameplay systems, Bethesda always allowed you to completely max out everything if you played enough. They don't believe in restricting skills and content from your character, which is why you get silly stuff like my guy with no magical skills whatsoever being Arch-Mage of Cyrodill or my lithe rogue Harbinger of the Companions.

Fallout 3 was their worst game at that, because you didn't even need to go out of your way to be completely OP. As soon as you get decent weapons and level 10, only the most powerful enemies (Deathclaws, Enclave, Behemoths basically) pose any threat whatsoever. Once you are level 20, you can sleepwalk through the game. It is telling that the ''challenge'' added by FO3's DLCs was in the form of enemies who arbitrarily dealt massive damage to you regardless of your armor and skills, which led to absurd stuff like some hick with a shotgun in Point Lookout being more dangerous than a entire squad of Enclave soldiers with power armors and plasma rifles. That's without going into Feral Ghoul Reavers.

At least New Vegas kept you on your toes until the endgame and you had to actually specialize, rather than get mountains of free skill and SPECIAL points allowing you to max everything easily. The DLCs did make the Courier OP, but I always took Logan's Loophole to keep the worst of the abuse in check.

I don't expect FO4 to be otherwise. Even if you cannot max everything, Bethesda will not force the player to make a *gasp* choice and stick to it. It more or less goes against their design philosophy, with a couple exceptions.

Fallout 3 is better written than New Vegas and better written than Inquisition by a wide margin.

The writing in Skyrim is indeed complete garbage, however.
