Fallout 3 sidequests 'inane'? Ridiculous. Fallout 3 has perhaps the best sidequests in any game I've played.
Eh, which? The obnoxious wannabe superheroes fighting with ants and robots? The friendly not-vampires? The annoying as f- kids of Little Lamplight bossing you around? Tenpenny Towers which craps on the choices you make and marks killing the evil, racist guy as an evil act? Nuking Megaton for no good reason?
I mean, I get that Fallout is not the most serious of settings in the first place. But FO3 made a theme park out of the Wasteland. New Vegas had loads of great side quests that didn't try for some lame ''lol so random XD'' humor. Vault 11 alone is a masterpiece of writing that stands heads and shoulders above anything Bethesda has ever done. Others include helping Marcus in Jacobstown, unmasking Hanlon in Return to Sender, and all the companion quests but especially Arcade's and Raul's even if they have annoying triggers.
The ones I liked in FO3 were the Republic of Dave and helping Reily's Rangers. That's more or less it.
I mean, at least the side quests weren't as abysmally idiotic as the main quest. But there was really nothing inspiring here. Obsidian, Bioware, CD Projeckt, all the major RPG publishers have done way better than this.
