Fallout 3 is better written than New Vegas and better written than Inquisition by a wide margin.

The writing in Skyrim is indeed complete garbage, however.

OK, so you will have to provide a few solid examples here.

Because out of New Vegas I remember stuff like Vault 11, Mr. House and Old World Blues. What I remember of Dragon Age are the likes of the Broodmother sequence, Loghain and Solas.

What I remember of Fallout 3 is my radiation-immune companion refusing to go into a heavily irradiated room to press a button, saying that it's ''my destiny'' to press it instead, which invariably ends with my death.

Thankfully, I didn't finish Fallout 3 until Broken Steel was already out and I had it installed. So I never experienced the original ending, which I no doubt would have despised. So I suppose I might be a bit biased there.

Even with Broken Steel what I remember of Fallout 3 was roaming around looking for Liam Neeson and completing inane quests along the way, not the writing. There's also Liberty Prime I guess but that was a long way down the list of cool giant robots.

New Vegas meanwhile painted a world that was actually interesting, and let me craft an interesting* character while going through it.

*By RPG standards anyway.

Fallout 3 sidequests 'inane'? Ridiculous. Fallout 3 has perhaps the best sidequests in any game I've played.

I think it's time to remind ourselves again how good Fallout 3 writing is.

I like NV more, but like the guy above, I played first with Broken Steel too. Fawkes was a champ.

Dutch, have you ever formed an opinion after the evidence has been presented?

Considering that DAI had about 60,000, I feel that MEA will probably have the same amount as DAI. What I'm disappointed in is that Fallout 4 will probably have more dialogue than MEA meaning more narrative. I hope it isn't the case.

I love Fawkes. If she were to make a surprise appearance in Fallout 4, I would be so happy.

Well, the parts of his post that aren't opinion is that Fallout actually does have that many lines. And Bioware has the number he stated apparently. I also notice that "word budget" is actually a serious topic around here. I think Bethesda can throw away money a lot more.

Whether that translates to better narrative, I don't know. They both have sucked lately (But I admit that's just my opinion. And I don't really give a **** to debate it).

Eh, which? The obnoxious wannabe superheroes fighting with ants and robots? The friendly not-vampires? The annoying as f- kids of Little Lamplight bossing you around? Tenpenny Towers which craps on the choices you make and marks killing the evil, racist guy as an evil act? Nuking Megaton for no good reason?

I mean, I get that Fallout is not the most serious of settings in the first place. But FO3 made a theme park out of the Wasteland. New Vegas had loads of great side quests that didn't try for some lame ''lol so random XD'' humor. Vault 11 alone is a masterpiece of writing that stands heads and shoulders above anything Bethesda has ever done. Others include helping Marcus in Jacobstown, unmasking Hanlon in Return to Sender, and all the companion quests but especially Arcade's and Raul's even if they have annoying triggers.

The ones I liked in FO3 were the Republic of Dave and helping Reily's Rangers. That's more or less it.

I mean, at least the side quests weren't as abysmally idiotic as the main quest. But there was really nothing inspiring here. Obsidian, Bioware, CD Projeckt, all the major RPG publishers have done way better than this.

Your idea of a 'masterpiece of writing' is a one-off joke that an elected leader gets sacrificed? That's what qualifies as a 'masterpiece of writing' to you? A 'masterpiece of writing'?

Well. Fallout 4 also took 7 years to be developed. Bethesda could do a lot without time restraints.

I wonder how much of it is active development though. Their main concept artist died around Skyrim's release. And the same guy who writes their FO games was doing Skyrim.

Now I'm curious to know what your opinion is on the flavor of crack, because obviously you tried some.

It's too bad he has to knock NV. I'd like to support someone dissing DAI.

This just puts me in strange company now.
