The central conflict in New Vegas wasn't particularly well done. The ending was outright lousy. There were far too many quests given by or concerning basically 'Generic NCR soldier.' There were simply no characters I ended up caring about that really represented the main factions, and hence, I never ended up caring about any of the main factions all that much as a whole. Outside of Honest Hearts, I never saw any particularly powerful lines from the Courier himself.

The companions were generally well done, many of the smaller details were fleshed out very well, and there was certainly some very intelligent dialogue (although most of the intelligent conversations are complete autodialogue. It's one character explaining things and the Courier basically asking them to elaborate again and again.) But New Vegas is a very long way from a masterpiece of writing.

It's too bad he has to knock NV. I'd like to support someone dissing DAI.

This just puts me in strange company now.

That just leaves Kingdoms of Amalur! The best RPG ever!

I own it, but I coudn't get through it very far. I'm not gonna say anything bad about it. Sort of saving it for a rainy day.

I kind of feel bad for Curt Schilling though.. I used to talk to him a little on another board. He's a cool guy... but a big MMO fan. This game shows.

That biggest problem with that game was really how easy it was even on the hard setting, had a fun time with Amalur, especially its crafting system but it lacked any kind of challenge, which it really needs when the narrative is kinda bland.

Ever get the feeling that topics like these are created so we can talk about off-topic things?

How dare you!

OFF TOPIC IS NOT ALLOWED ON THESE BOARDS! WE ARE ONLY SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT BIOWARE AND THEIR GAMES!

You have been reported for off topicness!

Then let me.

The story is the same bland nonsense that R.A. Salvatore has been churning out for decades now, the voice acting is atrocious, and the quest design makes DAI look good.

Well. Fallout 4 also took 7 years to be developed. Bethesda could do a lot without time restraints.

Someone fell for PR.

1:Their main concept artist died around Skyrims release

2:The writer was still working on Skyrim after FO3

3: Todd already stated that the bulk of the team went to SKyrim after FO3, then to the next game after Skyrim with members staying on both teams to handle stuff

So yeah it's not 7 years of dev, as most of that was of the creative process and throwing ideas around.

Well, the parts of his post that aren't opinion is that Fallout actually does have that many lines. And Bioware has the number he stated apparently. I also notice that "word budget" is actually a serious topic around here. I think Bethesda can throw away money a lot more.

Whether that translates to better narrative, I don't know. They both have sucked lately (But I admit that's just my opinion. And I don't really give a **** to debate it).

I would imagine that given the general success of Skyrim and the FO games for Bestheda, their development budget is just generally higher. And let's not forgot that Bioware doubled their VO costs for half the lines by having 2 choices of VO.

The quantity of something doesn't always indicate quality.  Otherwise that means The Old Republic has more dialogue quality then Fallout 4 for it has 250,000 lines of dialogue.

To be fair to the Old Republic...the dialogue in that game is quite good in places...

But I agree in general.

In other places, generic lines are recycled. Which is what I expect in FO3.

And you realize that a lot of that "dialogue" might solely consist of lists of proper nouns, right? Because they actually took the time to record all kinds of names and specifically mentioned this during their presentations. I'm assuming that those names are probably being counted as part of the recorded dialogue. But yes, you go right ahead and misguidedly equate the total number of recorded words with "meaningful narrative" and start another thread so that you can bash DA:I for the umpteenth time AND start prematurely bashing ME:A too, OP!

As much as I love the Fallout series, Bethesda hasn't exactly had roaring success with any of their narratives, but we'll see how it goes this time around. It's not like I'll really care all that much about how good/bad the story is since I play Bethesda games for the settings and the exploration, but it would be nice if they do manage to improve in that area.

How about we point out the fact that the game comes out in almost 2 weeks and we still know hardly anything about the game (unlike FO3 and Skyrim)

That's the case with a lot of games. I guess I prefer it.

They're talking way too much about Tomb Raider lately (and DAI before)...... but I'll play that too.

There's a different between not saying too much and saying way too little. Just look at what we know about FO4 at this point and compare that to FO3 and Skyrm. It's night and day.

Fallout 3 is better written than New Vegas and better written than Inquisition by a wide margin.

The writing in Skyrim is indeed complete garbage, however.

I'd like to know what great heroic struggle took place in Fallout 3?

Turning on a water purifier with radiation that should not be there.

True. We got some tidbits about perks and a superficial look at some features such as crafting and the new SPECIAL, but very little is in-depth. If they release no new information you're almost going in blind.

I'm not pre-ordering myself. Not only does it mean I'll dodge the worst bugs, but it is possible that the game isn't that good. The radio silence is puzzling to me too.

And of course it means that mods will hopefully have fixed the certain-to-be terrible UI by the time I pick up the game.

Tbh, I didn't pay a lot of attention around Skyrim. I saw a magazine article once, I think. When the trailer came out though almost right before released, I was impressed (although the game was typical TES in the end .... I can't knock the trailer).
