Face codes, please, BioWare?

First off ... sorry.

Boring and obvious thread is boring and obvious. lol

But (and I'm posting this here because the Feedback thread has mysteriously disappeared) I'd like to formally request "face codes", a la Mass Effect 3, that allow us to recreate our Inquisitor's appearance perfectly in a new game.

Now that Tresspasser has been released -- making DA:I somehow, retroactively, better than it was before; and now that we have golden nugs which, through some dimension-bending magical loveliness, allow us to play what is, essentially, a "New Game Plus" -- I have a feeling that I'll want to play as my canon inquisitor again in the weeks before Dragon Age 4 arrives.

But, because of the new, improved and more nuanced character creator, there's no way I'll be able to reproduce my Quizzy's appearance to my satisfaction.

Mathematical equations are required!

Since I'm as good at mathematical equations and computer programming as Josephine is at letting her hair down, or as Sera is at talking in coherent sentences, and since I'm a lowly console gamer to whom "mods" are no more real than the Maker, I'd appreciate it if you saw to this matter, BioWare.

Thanks. :)

They are done adding features to the game, best you could hope for at this point would be face codes in DA4.

I support this - I would love to replay my inquisitor from the beginning but can't seem to remake him.

Also wouldn't mind having some people donate their face codes from the Show Your Inquisitor thread. Some people are amazing at character creation (not me - default MShep and a modded Warden I took from Dragoj Age Nexus 4 Life)

Definitely! I didn't think of that.

Having access to other people's created inquisitors would be like having a huge selection of genuinely good default faces to choose from. lol

P.S. I wanted to post pics of my inquisitor(s) in that thread but I'm not allowed for some reason. Don't know why I don't meet the criteria.

Sorry - I looked at the second spoiler one and she looked like she was in trouble from Cassandra with her frown.

I guess it isn't that funny - just wasn't expecting a glaring Cassandra in the corner with that expression.

There's a way. Kinda. But it only exists for the PC players.

Also note, that it does not seem to work well for...well, for the other CC session. Must be something with the initial head preset.  We only have two for the *spoiler* (which are basically one) while Inq has 5. But it does 100% work for the Inq.

No I agree.    Kinda why I chose that one.

In your situation the face code wouldn't help because the facial structures between humans and elves is mad different.  You'd still have to redo it from scratch.

Clearly, Bioware didn't realize what they had in ME, but I am hopeful they'll re-add facecodes or even a more direct way of copying faces into the next game, since there is such a demand for it. As for this game, well, it's really tedious, but you can take screenshots of the sliders if you go to the Black Emporium with your character. Like I said, it takes forever to recreate your character, but I've now done so three times (2 playthroughs with my girlfriend's Inquisitor and once with the same face on Hawke for hilarity) and they all look identical to each other and the original!

If anyone does this, I'd recommend trying to use the lines near the sliders on the left side of the screen as reference points when trying to put your new sliders in the same positions as the old ones. Uh... that will make sense if you're looking at the character creator :P

I have been able to recreate one of my Inquisitors multiple times using images of her sliders, but this is still enough of an effort that a face code sort of thing would be an amazing addition. Sadly with DAi content finished, other then bug fixes maybe, best I can hope for is a DA4 ease of character copying.. Until then, at least I have successfully remade one Inquisitor? hahaha

But there is hope I can recreate human her. :D *bounces*

Its pretty baffling that they didn't include this feature from the outset, and even more baffling that they didn't add it in a patch.

I never considered -- and never would have, in a thousand years, considered -- taking screenshots of the various sliders in the Black Emporium character creator.

The method sounds somewhat akin to jumping through fiery hoops and smashing down walls to reach my destination when it would have been no trouble for BioWare to provide a door, a red carpet and sign-posts -- but it's better than nothing, and I guess I'll only have to do it once. lol

Thanks, guys.

But there's no need to! Not  on PC at least. Using the overlay grid\ruler is much more simple and user-friendly, and one only have to measure those numbers once. Haven't you checked on the link from my post?

If you read to the end of my original post you'll see that I said I'm a "lowly console gamer".

Thanks for the input, though. PC users may find it helpful.

Oh, my apologies. Duct-tape + measuring tape\ruler for you then. :(

(And no, I'm not being sarcastic, it's much more accurate than screening the CC, and it's faster than trying to recreate the face by trial-error anyway).

Yeah, I just tried to do it on console and I have to say it's still a very difficult task with a lot of guesswork involved.

So, again, I re-iterate: please give us a way to import our inquisitor's appearances into a new game, or provide face codes, BioWare.

I definitely wouldn't want to do it this way more than once.

Yepper, as Sunnie said. OP, this is really not something you should hope for. Like, at all.

And apparently they did try to do something of the kind for a previous patch, but the way the CC is coded made it nigh impossible or something, meaning they would have the tear it down and start from scratch -- not something they would be willing to do for a minimal patch feature.

[edit]

Here is Mark Darrah's tweet about it...

@FreshRevenge - will you guys add the option to reuse characters we made in DAI for sequential playthroughs?

@BioMarkDarrah - we are looking into appearance sharing so that would save chargen time.

And later...

‏@AccursedSniper - More than half a year ago...any updates on progress?

@BioMarkDarrah - looks like we messed up the underlying system. Doesn't look like we will be able to turn it on

I wouldn't say it's a lot more accurate, even if using screenshots is really tedious. Like I said, you can look at a screenshot of my Inquisitor in 3 playthroughs or as Hawke and not tell the difference at all. Of course, it'll be easier for some people more than others, try using the elements on the screen as reference points :) Not that I'm arguing they shouldn't add a way to recreate them, not at all ^_^

This was an inteded feature in DAI, but it didn't work out.  The way they built the character creator was such that face codes weren't an option.  They won't reveal the details of how that happened, but that's what they tell us when we ask.

They wanted to give us face codes.  They meant to give us face codes.  But the way they designed the rest of the game it turned out not to be possible.  Oops.

There's always an option. All they had to do is to visibly mark the bloody grid! Like 1-100.  They could not reimport it ME-way for the NG+?  Fine, just give the players an option to measure the 'crosshair' positions. That's much better than nothing (and it would have helped console players a lot)

try using the elements on the screen as reference points

The easiest way is to take bottom-left corner of the CC square frame as 'zero' coordinate and measure the distance from the left & from the bottom.

This is the main issue I have with the whole box thing. In previous games I could recreate my character by saying, "OK I have preset 2, with skin 5, nose 3, bridge width 5," and so on. This was a bit more problematic with DA2 because several of the sliders didn't have notches or allow minute moving with left/right arrows, but it was still doable.

I think having the coordinates displayed on the screen, even if it fell on the player to write them down themselves, would have been very helpful.
