I've decided that I no longer care that so many don't respect the CAR--I'm coming out of the AR closet to say this...

I like the Collector Assault Rifle. I know others who like it, too.

It works very well in all the situations that the Lancer does. It shoots very, very straight and does so at extreme ranges. In the past few days I've carried it into countless golds and half a dozen plats and have topped the scoreboard with regularity.

Other ARs hit harder but it's perfect accuracy means more bullets go exactly where I want and that makes up for it's slight deficiencies.

Last night, after scoring 190k playing the Batdept - HazReactor/Reaper/Plat, trio with jmac and ddawg - I decided that I'd no longer hide in shame...

Take note, DarkOrgasm...this is how one can point their figurative 'Spear of Genital Disappointment' in the right direction AND spell the whole damn thing correctly, to boot! Take notes.

I enjoy using it occasionally. It certainly could have been buffed a couple more times but it does have some redeeming qualities (practically zero recoil and huge clip capacity.) I imagine that players with young manifests can find it a very solid weapon to bridge the gaps between the commons and ultra rares.

I like the feel of it. Could certainly use a little more punch, but it's steady enough to let me walk the bullet stream into the critical areas. And Challenge Points, so yeah.

It's a weird gun without any real niche ; it's too heavy for casters and doesn't bring enough punch for weapons focused characters. An illustrating example is the ACA : the CAR is outperformed by the CSMG on the adept build, and by the PPR on the soldier build.

 

It has a very low recoil, so headshots are easy with it, that's already something. I think it should have weighted like the Lancer to have some interest. I use the CAR mainly when I'm grinding the AR challenge, usually on the turian sentinel (an hybrid weapons / powers character, not surprisingly).

I like all the full auto hit scan ars on gold for applying ammo priming, except the spitfire. Edit- and the revenant, gross.

 Platinum..nope, just nope.. It barely kills anything at a decent rate on Gold with a level 3 assault rifle amp & level 4 ammo....found it...

Actually, I gave it another whirl, on the strength of this recommendation. It had been so long since the last time I used it that I wasted a mod by equipping a Magazine Upgrade (I mistakenly assumed that it used the same ME 1 mechanic as the CSR and CSMG.) I was surprised by how well it performed.

It's ok. It's like a phaeston but heavier and with more damage, but if you can afford to carry it, your probably better off taking the harrier or use a typhoon or something.

It's a nice "all-around" weapon, plus it sounds nice when fired, unlike the Phaeston, Lancer or Revenant.

It's underpowered and heavy compared to many guns but is fantastically accurate, and I've only logged more CP with the Harrier, Lancer, Saber and (only just) Typhoon. It should be great on the Collector, but it can't match the CSMG because of its weight.

 

Cooldowns are often overrated so I'm happy to use the Thermal Scope, Damage Barrel, AP IV - mook destroyer on Gold. Or you can go with piercing mod/heavy barrel + Disruptor ammo, especially good against Geth.  TGI can obviously make it work very well, but my BatSent, who is less of a thug than his brothers, can also inflict reasonable damage with it. TSent too. I've got your back, OP.

I'm of the opinion that there is always a better gun to use than the CAR, regardless of class, playstyle or build. However, this seems like a L2P issue, or a wild exaggeration...

The collector rifle from mass effect, now that was an awesome rifle. Great damage, fire rate and it sounded perfect! The CAR in me3 however, is a peashooter which isn't even that useful as a club in my honest opinion.

Yes you did score 190k with it on plat but i'd say that you could very well score the same with an avenger(not full auto) or a geth rifle and perhaps even more with something like the PPR or Harrier. This is an assumption on my part of course since i haven't seen you play but still generally valid and there are much better guns out there which outperform the Car in most areas that overall it's a particularly lackluster piece of **** gun.
