why do Cassandra and Leliana need an Inquisitor?

I mean, my warden went through the Eluvian with Morrigan, so when Cass tell the Inquisitor they needed someone because not the Hero nor the Champion were nowhere to be found I was like, OK, Lord knows where the Eluvian took them both

But had she married Alistair she would've been the queen and she would've be in Ferelden, no? In the castle, with Alistair...or wouldn't she?

No. Regardless of your chosen path for the Warden in DAO or Witch Hunt DLC, unless they are dead the Warden is "missing" as stated at the end of DA2 and continuing on into DAI.

The stated reason is that your Warden is searching for a way to prevent the Calling, so saving their own life (as well as Alistair's!) is something that is generic enough that it should have meaning to 95% of the Wardens that players ever created.

Thanks. I played DA2 but I didn't remember anything about the Calling or the warden being missing (probably because, as mine went through Eluvian, I was already expecting her to be missing anyway).

There is an awkward apparent plot hole if Leliana romanced the Warden though, because Leliana knows where the Warden is but Cassandra still thinks they disappeared.

somebody absolutely has to know where the Warden is or else there'd be no mail contact. A raven can only do so much.

It was in a wartable mission late in the game.  You contact the HoF to see what, if anything, he/she has to say about Corypheus.  Hawke has more pertinent information on Cory as, of course, the HoF hasn't met him before and knew nothing of him from Warden records, but it was a way for Bioware to explain why the HoF is conspicuously absent during the game events.  If your warden romanced Morrigan she will even tell you he's on a mission of his own, but she will contact him.

I tend to think Leliana found out where in the 2-3 years since the end of DA2 the warden was off to and was able to reach him/her in the latter part of Inquisition's timeline.  Since they already had the inquisitor, the HoF wasn't needed and was still on his mission.

is that really a plot hole? or maybe Leliana doesn't want Cassandra to know?

Because it's not like some other character in our team has kept information from Cassandra to avoid getting them tangled up in the clusterfuck that is the Inquisition.

And that character totally did not say "You've done enough to him/her".

Varric didn't trust Cassandra and whatever she was up to. Leliana was utterly committed to the Divine and her plans.

And if she didn't want the Warden involved its not like she couldn't have said "The Warden is off on Wardeny business and isn't available", rather than leading Cassandra one a wild goose chase at a crucial time.

And if Leliana had been lying to Cassandra all this time, Cassandra should have some sort of reaction, but she doesn't.

No matter who the Warden is or who they're involved with, if they survived DA:O they head into the uncharted western lands in search of a cure for the Calling during DA:I. If Zevran is their LI he goes with them; if Leliana is LI the Warden and her settle into a house on the Waking Sea where Leliana grew up after Trepasser.

So if the warden's LI is Leliana she isn't the Left Hand of the Divine? Or when DAI starts do they set apart, the warden going to the westen lands and Leliana becoming the Left Hand?

I'm asking because I'm really curious and I was planning to make Leliana my LI until I start to hang around with Morrigan and Alistair (oh, those banters!). So when I had the chance I broke up with Leliana and went for Morrigan :)

I haven't finished the game yet and I know I should play it again and see by myself but job+RL problems = less and less time for gaming :(

If Leliana and the Warden are together she's still the Left Hand, and has been for some time. In Awakening the Warden will get a letter from Leliana saying she's been summoned by a Grand Cleric; I assume that's Justinia before she became Divine, and that that is when Leliana was recruited as Justinia's agent. She's almost certainly Left Hand by 9:37, which is when Justinia sends her to Kirkwall to assess the situation.

Tallis and Leliana will recognise each other at Chateau Haine in Mark of the Assassin. Since that can happen as early as 9:31 I assume that Leliana was operating as Justinia's bard since the end of the Blight.

if Leliana and the Warden are together, when the Inquisitior asks about the Warden Leliana will say she plans on joining them when her duty is done, because she's lost too much and refuses to lose them too.

I still find it quite silly that nobody knows where the HoF is, except that if he/she romanced Leliana, at the end of Trespasser they settle in that house together. So wait.. what about the quest for finding a cure to the Calling?

Does HoF suddenly go like "well f*ck this sh*t, I'm just gonna retire now, bai losers" without telling anyone?

Or he/she keeps traveling back between the "uncharted western lands" and Leliana's house every few days?

What kind of a quest is that? Or is the fact that he/she came back meaning that the quest was a failure?

Makes no sense :P
