Can it be done? Has anyone tried it? What happens if you do?
Played this ages ago, and wondered can I decide NOT to recuit Anders and Isabela?

Anders is mandatory companion, but you can skip on recruiting Isabela. Nothing really happens - you don't get her quests and she gets replaced by other people in companion's cutscenes, but the Qunari still attack Kirkwall, though there is no mention of who stole the relic and Hawke don't get blamed for helping her.

Anders has to be recuited, but he can be ignored for the rest of the game.
Isabela does not have to be recruited. The game isn't that different. Hawke still fights the Arishok

You can also just dismiss him in Act 2 officially, after the "Tranquil Solution".
He's still gonna screw up your fun eventually though.

Anders you have no choice you have to.
For isabela do not go to The Hanged Man after you help Anders with his quest with Karl and you will be good.

Just to add, she only appears if you go there at night.

You can go there all you like, just don't talk to her or if you do - don't accept her quest.
P.S. I kinda miss recruitment quests from DA2 (if only all of them were optional). You could hang out with them for a bit before picking them up. In DA:I it's bang-bam, thank you ma'am.

the only thing that happens at the end of Act 2 is the fact you may end up having to fight every Qunari in the rooom when you finally meet the Arishok at Viscount's Keep which is a really tough fight if you do go down that route doable but by no means easy Although you can still take the Arishok on 1 on 1 if you have Fenris with you in your party acting as a translator

Yeah, on my first playthrough I had to do it the hard way. Isabela never came back and I didn't have Fenris with me so I had to slaughter all those qunari.

It's worth doing at least once. It's a more brutal death cutscene.
I think Cass sounds a little more stunned about it too... like it's even more unbelievable.

Isabela appears whether it is day or night.

Worthy Rival achievement solves this regardless of recruiting Isabela or having Fenris in party.

I could've sworn it only triggers at night. Or maybe I'm just mixing it up with Anders quest (which is also at night). I go see Isabela afterwards.

yeah I've only experienced it once or twice when I was learning the game not an easy fight. I would say it's probably the toughest fight in the entire game doing it that way. Took me at least 3 attempts to get through it when I did it.

Many sources do state that it only triggers at night. Myself, I've played the game 10+ times and it has always triggered upon entering Hanged Man the next time regardless of the time of the day.

Is there a video of this? I've never seen it, and barely can find any showing Fenris suggesting a duel.

I don't know, but you must choose aggressive answer in the dialogue with the Arishok and whereas normally it triggers a fight, he will offer a duel.

He mostly acts as an interpreter as he knows the way Qunari think because he's obviously from that part of the world. Ithink if I remember saying that he just translates what the Arishok and kind of suggests a 1 on 1 fight between him and Hawke to settle the dispute. I think there is \a youtube vid of it somewhere as that's kind of how I figured it out. I haven't seen it for a while though but there is also a scene where Fenris talks to the Arishok in Qun
There is also this that I've just found as well.
